View Full Version : Replacement headlamps, no boots?

I had my headlamps replaced today at the dealer (old ones were fogging up) and when the replacements were installed, I noticed that there was no twist cap/O ring on the back like the old ones that seal and protect the back of the bulb socket connector.
I recall some people saying there was a rubber boot on the back of the new headlamps but on mine there was nothing. The back of the connector that connects to the bulb is now visible. Seems to me this will allow more moisture in but I may be wrong. The tech who replaced it said that there were no rubber boots in the replacement kit. Anyone know if there is supposed to be a rubber boot or if it is normal for the backs to be open?

I thought a Quick release (ridgid velcro) would be the Hot setup.

The old headlights had a cap with orange O ring but there were also some ridges extending out of the plastic that the cap secured to. The new headlights have no ridges at all, the back is completely smooth. Does anyone have the new style with the rubber boots? How do they attach? I really need a part number if anyone knows what it is for the boots or if anyone could post a picture of the new style headlamps with boot that would be great. I just need something to show my tech.

OK Geoff, I did some basic research and found the following:

The headlamp assy replacement for the 03 and 04 MM are the same. You will need to call the dealer and have them pull up your osasis report, look at the last service, and see what part number they actually installed on your car.

3W3Z13008-CA (R) -DA (L) HEADLAMP ASSY.
F4DZ13N019Z UNIVERSAL COVER (not sure if the o-ring comes with the cover, or the headlamp)

If your lamp covers the same part number as I posted above, and does not have the same appearence, there must have been a change at the manufacturer/supplier that I don't know about.

Good luck!
