don't get me started. mercury had a shot to break out of the doldrums with the marauder, and now they're saying "discover new places"? i doubt we'll see any mariner/montego enthusiast sites. fomoco's marketing dept. is way off base, as usual.:fishing:

Well two way to look at this.............

First they did us a favor by not mass marketing the car. This way they are rare:)

Second do you really want to "trip" over one each time you take your for a ride?

What would a "Mauraudrville" be like with 2,000+ MM?

OK. Carry on now.

And what's with all the "M"'s?

Mercury Marauder
Mercury Monterey
Mercury Montego
Mercury Mountaineer
Mercury Marquis (Grand)
Mercury Mariner

Marketing genious? :shake:

Mercury Sable must be the red-head of the bunch. I'd be watching my back.

The Mercury Marque has been dying a slow and lingering death for years, since FOMOCO can't seem to find anyone with enough guts and vision to make it what it once was (if they went back to their roots, they'd have had a chance). I think they ought to just shoot the lame horse and put it (and us) out of our misery. The Montego and Mariner won't do it, and already these new models, as well as the Ford 500, have serious quality issues. See www.blueovalnews.com (http://www.blueovalnews.com) for the latest.

There is this:

Ford Introduces New "Erection" Sport Utility Vehicle

DETROIT, MI (DPI) - In response to the success of its Excursion, Expedition and Explorer SUV models, Ford executives today announced that the company's new 2005 line will introduce a larger model, the Ford Erection. The company hopes to take advantage of consumer demand for larger, more powerful vehicles among the coveted target market of Men Ages 25-49 With Exceptionally Small Penises. "We felt that adding more inches to this exciting new model will provide the customer with a stronger, tougher, thicker, longer-lasting driving experience than ever before," said Ford spokesperson Jacques Nasser. "The hot, supple leather seats, the steely firmness of the hood and fenders, and the surging manhood of the 18-cylinder 16.0 liter engine are designed to wrap the customer in satiny luxury while hauling his load to whatever destination he chooses."

I saw the new Mercury TV commercial "Opening New Doors" last Sunday. Does nothing for me .... I am still trying to figure out the point of the ad. Guess I am no longer a part of their demographic target .... :wflag:

Second do you really want to "trip" over one each time you take your for a ride?

All good, but consider the time Fourth Horseman spent waiting for a Marauder-specific part to be shipped to him following his violent sexual encounter with a Honda at an intersection. Honestly, the time it took for his car to be sorted out (and the fact that it required communication with the TOP Marauder responsible within Ford!) is unacceptable and offsets the pleasure of owning a rare vehicle. And as the vehicle ages and the parts supply is abandoned, Marauderville hangouts will need increased security to keep parts from being lifted off the cars while the owners aren't looking. ;)

I sort of went through this with my F-bodies, being not terribly common up here. I had to approach all service visits for my GTA armed with research taken off the fledgling (at the time) internet. Now with the incredibly more rare Marauder, I'll have to forever obsess over little details such as tire rotation (ie. NOT letting them do it) and keeping close eyes over the parts counter to prevent getting generic panther parts instead of the Marauder-specific items that would be required.

So I kind of wish there were more of these cars sold, so more technicians would know them inside out, and parts would be guaranteed available at a decent price and reasonable delivery times.

FoMoCo needs to stop going to Walmart for their advertizing, then maybe if they hire a good agency they will sell some cars, and not just some SUV's and truck's.

Not to argue with Sir but, Wal-Mart is a the largest Company in the USA and if Ford took a page or two out of their play book we would all be better off!

True Steve but for the most part the Marauder was taken from Ford's "parts bin" very few parts were special.

BDJ...

I agree with the statement that WalMart is the BIGGEST company in the USA.
But there is something wrong with your comparison...

WALMART DOESN'T MANUFACTURE ANYTHING.

WalMart is the World's BIGGEST Brick and Mortar RESELLER...

The Merchandising and Advertising budget of FORD, is a drop in the bucket,
compared to what WalMart's Merch and Adv budget is...

I truly believe that Ford makes such huge profits on SUVs and trucks, they don't WANT to sell more cars...

If they would make the cars more ATTRACTIVE,
we would have a lot less Trucks and SUVs to avoid on the road.

For many manufacturers, Formula One racing is their best advertising.

Remember in the 80's and 90's when everyone who won did it with a Ford Cosworth engine? Niki Lauda, Bobby Rahal, Jackie Stewart all ran Cosworths.

How many Cosworth's are in F-1 right now? Two. Jordan and Minardi. And Ford is selling the Cosworth engine division. And Ford has dropped the Jaguar team for 2005.

Why Ford? Why?

I firmly believe that Mercury will be every bit as lively and influencial a car company as Oldsmobile in no time.
