Hi Folks,
As a new Marauder owner, I'll be due for a lube change pretty soon and really want to go with a synthetic, and prefer Mobil 1 but I don't think they have the 5W20. What are you guys using? Anyone using synthetic, and if so what brand? I have been a fan of Castrol but haven't used their synthetic oils, but the old petroleum grade has served many many miles and techs have commented on how clean the engines were inside. What do ya'll think about Castrol's synthetic 5W20?

Recommend you do a search on "oil". You'll find enough info there to keep you occupied for the rest of the day. :D

Just changed over to synthetic Mobil1 0w20. Had used the motorcraft semi-synthetic 5w20 up til now.

Pretty much personal choice. I feel with all the "extra" moving parts in a D.O.H.C. motor full synthetic is the way go:)
Like someone said do a search for oil threads.
Or hang here till RF checks in:up:

I've used Mobil 1 for years, including some commercial lawn mowers with air-cooled engines. I figure they probably spend more money on oil development and quality control than on advertising-----I'm not sure about some of the others. Never an engine problem including cars that ran well over 200,000 miles.
To get the special Ford additive package with Mobil 1, use the 0w-20-----that's what I'm doing.

Anyone using synthetic, and if so what brand? ... What do ya'll think about Castrol's synthetic 5W20?
First off, Castrol doesn't make a true synthetic oil. The oil that the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus allows Castrol to call "synthetic" is, in fact, just a Gruppe III hydro-isomerized dino oil...same for most of the other popular brands: Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, etc. The only TRUE synthetic oils are Mobil 1, AMSOIL, Redline, Royal Purple, and a handful of boutique (expensive and/or hard to find) oils.
Most of us (on this board) who use synth oils are using either Mobil 1 or AMSOIL...I think there are a couple of Royal Purple fans here, too.
Bear in mind that synthetic oil is really only a good value if you need it, i.e. if you drive your car hard (or have lots of mods), if you drive in extremes of hot/cold, or if you want extended OCIs...otherwise, the factory-recommended Motorcraft 5w-20 is an excellent oil.

I use Amsoil 5W20 with a Amsoil Filter. I've tryed Mobil 1 & Ive tryed Royal Purple both are great oils but I perfer The Amsoil Oil & Filter. Also just a note I buy it at World Ford so Ford can't void any warranty's.

I take mine to the dealer so if there is a screw up your coverd. And yes screw ups do happen so Motorcraft is fine by me.

None of us can actually see what's going on inside our engines, so I guess deciding on something else other than what the manufacture calls for, ( such as synthetic oils) is simply a matter of what advertisements you're going to choose to believe. To each their own.

syn. stay together at hotter temps. If you stay 200 degrees or so, the "Dino" oil is fine! and If you bring it to the dealer they can stamp your little Maintenence book. They also run your Oasis by VIN #on the Ford computer to check for updates.:duel: HA!!

I can offer no useful advise on which oil to use...however if you have engine failure and they somehow come to know your oil is not the weight and type they recommend.... Ford looks for a reason to deny warranty claims.

Well you can send samples out to lab and they will tell you what is going on.

I use Mobil 1, but I've had problems finding 0-20W in the South. First used it on an oil change in Montana, but next oil change in New Mexico was back to 5-30W. I guess there's a natural aversion to lighter weights in the warmer climates.

^^^what the Bigdog said^^^
I've used Blackstone Laboratories (http://www.blackstone-labs.com) a number of times and I feel more comfortable with my choice of oil and oil change intervals based on their analyses...a bonus is that you can call them and they'll answer your questions without making you feel stoopid or that you're wasting their time...nice folks to deal with.
