Whats the worse mod done to your Marauder? Mine would have to be the exaust cut off. They made the car loud and thats fun, but in the 1/4 mile it runs slower. Even when I disconnect the battery and reset it so to say it will only run like 15.8. What about you? :mad:

Everytime I disconnect my battery and clear the ECM, the car runs like ***** for a day, so, I'm not sold on any performance gains possible from doing this.
My worst mod? Putting velcro on the top of my dash to ocasionally secure my I-Pass. When I changed my mind about the need to do this, the glue marred the dash and I have to look at that every day. That's okay though, I'm going to cover it with a custom gauge housing a'la Big Joe P's setup.

There's another board member here (I think it was either "TooManyFords" or "Fordnut") who ran through the 1/4 mile w/open headers and said that it yielded his best ET's. As far as "worst" mod, I don't think I have a worst mod on my Marauder. maybe because I've studied the life out of every mod possibility that I've chosen well before I made a purchase. So the ones I've chosen are all good. However there is one that definately is the best, and that I should've done first. But that's another topic.

My first, and worst mod happened the first week I owned the car. I thought it would be novel to put a 'Police Interceptor' badge on my left rear panel. Turns out I didn't like it a month later, couldn't get it loose, heated it a little with a heat gun....a little more....a little more...
Bubbled the paint on the plastic trim piece just below the tail light.:mad2:

I'm only posting this to make Barry feel better... I decided I didn't like the waterfall belt buckle ornament on my trunk- I thought I'd like it better painted black with red in all the recessed areas:
1) I managed to scrape the trunk paint taking it off.
2) I bought a GM emblem to cover the scrape.
2) I spent every night for a week applying a fresh coating of black to the removed emblem.
3) When it was perfect- I put red paint in the recessed areas and placed it in the oven. I turned it up to 200 degrees for 15 minutes and then turned it off to cure the paint.
4) Coli and I went to a cruise night.
5) While we are gone. 13 y/o daughter preheats oven to "inferno" without looking inside.
6) Paint explodes.
7) I'm badgeless now.

The runner -ups would be:
1) The exploding subwoofer.
2) Using carb cleaner in the shower- causing family to evacuate house.
3) Painting parts on back porch and ruining a table.
4) Painting parts in the sink.
5) The intake tube I cut to piece trying to improve the peanut butter jar lid mod.
6) Transmission fluid stain in driveway.
7) Royal Purple stain in driveway.
8) The time I shipped a used grill as new by mistake to a club member.

Hey bud! You had the same mod, but put it on the back! ;)
Quit picking on poor old Fourth . . . .no, wait; go ahead!
I think my worst mod was my only one. I put the clear black on the taillights, which looks cool, but I never could get it to dry right. It keeps cracking, and just looks like crap.

You're right... so THAT's what that ticking sound came from, the second time around! :lol:
What can I say? I was having trouble getting those reflective 'Marauder' bumper decals to stick on, and decided to use that Accord for a little extra force. Problem was, after the 'contact', I couldn't manage to extract the decals from the Accord's firewall, so I just left my car stock in the end. ;)
Now there's a comparison Car and Driver can sink its teeth into, as far as I'm concerned...

If it had been a Kia, it might not have even chipped the paint!

The mod I wished I had not done at the time but ended up being able to fix nicely was the KB dead pedal. It sat too far forward for my height, and just wasn't a good fit for me, (not to mention being overpriced IMO.) I decided to take it off and surprise! one of the hex head screws would only back out a couple of turns. It was permanently in there. The other came out halfway then stopped. Worked on it for two hours, scratched the living hell out the kick plate, and sc***** up the dead pedal paint job. Also snapped off the ball head of my S&K hex head socket. Finally put a heavy duty cut off wheel on my dremel and chopped the bolts off, removed the kick panel and threw it out because it was so badly screwed up. Took out the bracket and chopped off the screws, then filed them down as the old holes were useless. Drilled two more holes 1.5" further down the plate and epoxied two screws with nylon inserts over the back of the holes.
Went to the dealer and bought a new kick panel for $15, and used the old panel from the garbage as a template for the new holes, which worked perfectly. Painted the visible portion of the pedal mount gloss black, and added the Dynopro dead pedal in place of the plastic KB unit. Whole things rides way down now and is a perfect resting place for my foot and feel great, but for a while there it didn't look good!
Thanks,
Norm

This is in response to the thread opening post, I run my MM with no mufflers and achieved my best 1/4 mile time 15.17 @ 94.9 (I have no real performance mods) with my wife in the car, opposed to a 15.4 on a comparable (weather) day at the same track. I love my loud exhaust, sorry you didn't have as good of luck.
my worst mod is leaving the remote to the DVD player on the rear deck to find it melted the next day

Well maybe that was a good test of your "friendship", and since it didn't pass the test,perhaps it wasn't that genuine to begin with. BTW, I think that spark plugs are spark plugs as long as you have the correct heat range and proper size, you're good to go. That's MY opinion.

With the exception of platinum tipped and plated plugs, which just last longer. These plugs that are supposed to give more HP or better mileage crack me up.
Lookit, if "aura" type plugs or "split end" plugs did anything for HP or mileage, don't you guys think the manufacturers would use them?

Magnaflow Mufflers...I love them...BUT they are a bit LOUD...when "Non-motorhead" passengers get in the MM the first thing they say is "What's wrong with your exhaust?...Is there a hole in your muffler?"LOL!!! That's an interesting point Joe. This is the way that I see it.....Those comments and questions about your muffler that you received had to have come from one of two groups of people:
GROUP #1 consists of most women, who just aren't into the hi-perf car scene. I don't knock them for that, but I also don't expect my car to ever be to their liking either. To expect otherwise would be unrealistic, and would be like them expecting me to be thrilled about hearing them talk about what color dress they bought last week, or the extraordinary deal they got on those new set of curtains in the living room, or to actually look forward to going browsing and window shopping w/them at the mall for four hours tomorrow. It just won't happen, and there's nothing wrong w/that. When it comes to these things, the genders are simply different, and that's fine, but each of the two genders has to accept that. Yes, there are exceptions to that rule, but I'm speaking about the majority here. Having said that, this brings us to the second group......
GROUP #2 consists of guys who were never into hi-perf cars, and never will be. Again, that isn't neccessarily right, nor wrong, but simply different. These are the same guys who would think that you're mentally disturbed, or simply and utterly childish if they saw you do a burnout w/your Marauder, or show them a timeslip from your last quartermile run at the dragstrip. They just aren't interested, and the annoying noise coming from a rice burner car, or from the neighbor's weedwacker sounds the same as your perfectly tuned hi-perf V8 Marauder engine does. It's all the same to them. It's simply noise. So they just don't get it, and why be concerned w/what they think???
Over the course of time, you'll have all types of passengers in your Marauder......
There will be people like this--> :rolleyes:
and people like this--> :mad:
then sometimes you'll get this--> :banana2:
and then you'll get these--> :beatnik:
and let's not forget these--> :baby:
there will be these--> :nono:
and also these--> :eek:
these too--> :sleepy:
along w/these--> :blah:
and you might even get these--> :puke:
...but the bottom line is that you won't please everyone w/your Marauder, so you just have to please yourself. Okay, I had a lot of time on my hands this morning......
