I saw this and was wondering if this can be done to our cars especially a car like mine .also would it be costly..Dennis???

I assume you are speaking of the s/c cooler idea?

Dave, 2QUICK, has been experimenting with a similar device for some time now. It's pretty cool.

The article that I once read about this stated that it would work for a maximum of 30 seconds at a time which is fine since nobody hits the go pedal for 30 seconds non-stop. Even at the track you wouldn't need to stay on the throttle for any longer than 13 seconds at a time. But I don't understand how the article posted claims 500 HP on one hand, while on the other hand states that this new technology is good for an extra 50 HP. Because the Lightning in it's stock configuration is rated at 390 HP, right? So having an extra 50 HP would therefore equate to 440 HP. So there must be something else that they've done to the engine other than this new mod. I just wish they would do things like this to cars instead of to trucks only. IMO, trucks are for driving to the lumberyard, to the junkyard, and other chores of work.

Back when I had my Buick Grand National there was a company experimenting with that idea. However as far as I know, there weren't any gains worth mentioning, espacially for the cost.

I can't help but think that it's a very complicated modification, and not one that can be easily accomplished successfully by an aftermarket company. So I wouldn't count on anyone coming out w/something like that for our Marauders. I mean afterall, you're talking about a car which there's only one company for who even offers headers for, let alone a highly technical modification like the one in question.

Yeah, there is something else they've done... 32 valve 5.4L aluminum SC small block! Last I heard, they were actually making about 580HP at the crank (regardless of the published ratings - Ford seems to under rate the SVT products)
:burn:

The supercooler seems to be on again, off again... It's off again, right now  Basically, it would act as a push-button power adder. You need an intercooler, though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't think any MM's are, are they?

I just wish they would do things like this to cars instead of to trucks only. IMO, trucks are for driving to the lumberyard, to the junkyard, and other chores of work. Here's a link to a company that makes something similar: http://www.decolabs.com/product_info.php?cPath=38&products_id=68&osCsid=e6cda91e02efeaf84f3a59f 821ee3b8d

Some guys have even made they're own setups. Basically, the intercooler hose is re-routed, to a length of copper tuning, that is coiled, and immersed into a fuel cell, before returning to the intercooler. The fuel cell is filled with ice and water, just before making the run. The heat generated completely melts the ice, during the run, but the intercooler is more efficient cooling the incoming air. I've heard of high boost applications seeing a couple of tengths...

Here's a link to a 500HP Cobra, using something like this to pick up some 30HP: http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66882

I get it about cooling a reservoir down in between full throttle runs, the computer turns off the A/C compressor when you go to WOT. But I wonder if anybody has studied whether a full time dedicated A/C system, just for the intercooler, is feasable. Do you get enough sustainable HP to offset the drag on the engine from the compressor? Waiting for the "boosters" to "charge up" is Star Wars stuff, not something I like for the street.

That Lightning in the picture is the Lightning concept unveiled a while ago. It is chopped and the mini read doors have been removed among other things. As QWK SVT stated, there isn't much the same on it as the current Lightning.

As for running the compressor full time to cool the intake full time, I would expect the hp to run the compressor would be greater than the hp gained over a normal intercooler especially since I have not seen anyone ever attempt it.

Doesn't the Mustang Cobra have this? willie

SVT Group and John Colletti (spl) Have been working on a supper intercooler quick cooling system using the AC compressure for a while now.Basicly the AC system is rerouted to the Supercharger intercooler ,super cooling it.

It takes a few minutes to recool after that 30 second blast.

Doesn't the Mustang Cobra have this? willieNOPE........it has an intercooler, just as our S/Ced Marauders do (for those of us who HAVE S/Ced our marauders I mean), but not one that's cooled further by the air conditioning system like the one in question here.

Hmmm, I wonder why it's only advertised for General Motors engines.

Guys,

ChargeCooling is something that has been available on the Lotus Espirit for YEARS....
