View Full Version : Carbon Fiber Radiator Cover Interest???

FordNut

I have been in contact with a company that makes carbon fiber radiator covers for some other applications about making one for the Marauder. I am trying to gauge interest and see if it would be possible to setup a group purchase on this item before I buy an OEM cover and send to them for making a mold. A group buy would offset the cost of making the mold. Ten committed buyers would be nice, even better savings if we could get more. The price would be in the $200-250 range. This is the cover that goes from the radiator to the grille. Appearance upgrade only, no performance gains!!! It would match the Metco CF intake tube quite well. Anybody interested???

I'm interested but do anyone know if the cover is same on a Marauder as it is on a Grand marquis. I would think they are the same. I think the Towncar has a larger cover. If anyone knows that would be a help. Otherwise I would see if there is a Marauder at the local dealer to look at.

I've been in Ft. Worth on a business trip, haven't been able to get them installed yet. Next week doesn't look good either, gotta work in Tallahassee. Anxious to get them on. Although I only used the ABS one or two times on the Dragon, the brakes sure were stinky.

Check out this helmet I saw on the way to the dragon:

I bought a replacement cover panel. The service replacement is a little different from the OEM unit, but not a whole lot. Some angles and holes are a little different. I've taken lots of pics and sent to my contact at DGMotorsports. The next step is to gauge interest. Everybody who seriously wants one of these should email Jason@DGMotorsports.com and let him know you want one. If/when they get enough requests they will let me know to send the panels so they can make a mold. We will need to locate a member near them in Oceanside, CA for a test fit. Then they can be built and shipped out to us. They will probably need deposits before production starts as an assurance that we'll follow through with the purchase. Best case scenario about 3 weeks. More realistic IMO is 6 weeks. They're going to SEMA so that's down time, we've got to get commitments, ship parts, make molds, test fit, modify molds, etc, etc.

Get those emails going!

Anybody want to post on CVN to gauge interest over there?

The ricers would swear that you pick up anywhere from 15 to 20 HP!!! :D
The only thing that makes more HP than Carbon Fiber is Type 'R' stickers! :hotrice:

All kidding aside, I'd be interested in one if the $$$ does not go too high.

That's what happens, Nut, I got my first taste of it over two years ago with the AutoMeter project. Dreamers come with the territory, and the best way around them is the group buy where the real wanters front money first.

Got an email from Jason yesterday... Mostly a pep talk, said "We've got 12 orders now, just a few more to go. Keep it up, we can make this happen!" I believe if we get 15, it'll be a go.

BTW, I posted about it over at CVN and got absolutely zero interest. Somebody over there had the bright idea that putting carbon fiber applique tape on the OEM part would look just as good! I guess he's not thinking about the complex bends in the panel. And just wait 'til it starts to bubble and peel from the heat. That'll look really nice. Oh, well, looks like we gotta do it ourselves.

Contacted NAVCHAP, he's going to go by there sometime.

Jason said there has been no additional interest since the last update (12 sales, plus Kelly's additional 3 for resale). I suppose it's either due to Christmas, people waiting to see one in person before buying, or maybe it's just too much to spend on bling? Just hope nobody backs out now.

Why would you paint a Cartbon Fiber piece ?
Isn't seeing Carbon Fiber the whole purpose of Carbon Fiber ???

I could understand if it was a hood or fender, but this is a trimn piece that goes under the hood,
and it looks like the Carbon Fiber Intake Tube that was mentioned elsewhere on this site.
Anyone who owns that tube should buy one of these because it would match under the hood,
and give the area a nice bling to it...

We got off work early today so I went up to DG Motorsports. Jason and another Gent looked at the radiator cover as it is actually installed. Said it helped them to see one installed in the car.

It will take them a few weeks to have the covers ready, and they will probably want to have several customers ready to go before they start making them.

Logan, I know that these guys aren't vendors yet, and I don't want to cross any lines, my apologies in advance if you have to delete this.

But they have a really nice shop, some really nice vehicles that they are either building, modding, or testing. They are good folks and I would not be opposed to doing business with them.

I was not interested in this until I actually saw some of their carbon fiber products. They have a wide variety of things, all of them nice quality. Their products look good on the vehicles, another important consideration.

Ford Nut, you can call or email if you have any more questions or issues. I don't want to go overboard in the thread.

Thanks for the break Logan. You know I have not messed with you in three years, don't plan on starting now. -kjs-

Thanks! We need some more committed buyers on this, so if anybody is sitting on the fence, come on. At this point, the cost would be close to $250-270, but if we get up to 20 buyers it should drop to around $220.

Jason also asked me today if there are any other parts we may be interested in having made. I mentioned interior bezels, but I seriously doubt we would get any more or probably even as much interest as we have in the radiator cover. Any ideas?
