Hey all,
I do love this car. Just curious if there are other folks in Southern California that have only changed to 4:10 gears and reprogrammed the PCM? I'm only on my third tank of gas so this mod may still be a bit down the road but I figured it's worth asking before going that route. I'm seeing 16.3 mpg on 91 octane (all that's available in So Cal) $2.63 a gallon, mixed city/freeway driving. I'd like to stay close to that figure with the 4:10's, do you think it's possible? I guess first thing is to verify that it's legal.
Thanks,

The previous owner my my Marauder lived in San Diego.
He installed 4.10's and had a custom chip from Lidio.....so I'm guessing it is legal.
Only problem was the gas quality out there. He ended up having to have the custom chip taken out the car ran like crap.
What octane gas are you able to get on a daily basis?

91 octane is the highest I can get in San Diego. My MM is completly stock at this point and doesn't fuss or ping as it is. I'm sure I would enjoy this car to be even quicker, but not if the price is too high, ie "runs crappy" sometimes...

Same situation here with the 91 octane gas. I had Dennis roll me a program calibrated for that octane and everything has been great.

Also, 4th convoyed to Indy with us, and was within 1/2 of a mile per gal to what we got with the factory gears. Other members have said they saw an increase in city milage with the 4.10s.

I just installed 4:10's my concerns were the same as you stated.I just checked mileage after first tank.mostly local driving very little hwy.I got 350 mi on 18.6 gal.My mileage got much better after 5-6 k.I havent been able to reflash pcm yet to account for the gears.I did have help from D.R. over the phone he took me through transfering file from an E-mail to my computer to the SCT tuner.I was so close and some error message stopped the download into hand held SCT.Dennis was very helpful and patient while instructing a complete newbie through this process.I'm very excieted to try my new power.Soon:burnout:

The question was whether it is legal in CA I believe? Changing your gear and reprogramming for the gear ONLY would be legal. Any A/F or timing changes (which most of us do along with the reprogram)would possibly change your emmisions enough not to be legal in CA. :twocents:
