View Full Version : Kooks for install?

I've been to a couple of exhaust shops to discuss a Kooks install - no one seems overly enthusiastic about the task - citing a, "lack of space/tight fit" with all predicting "problems" - or worse.

Has anyone used Kooks to install one of their complete exhaust systems and if so, did all go "well"? The car currently has a Trilogy SC and an Addco swaybar, everything else is basically stock.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Roger D.

Take your time and find a good mechanic.

Here is a suggestion that I cannot stress enough:

Print out instructions from various threads on this site...do a search for Kooks or Kooks Install...

Remember one last thing. The Kooks system is custom bent....meaning every set of headers is just a bit different.

One member here swears that they had to shave part of the steering column to get it to fit....the rest of us did not.

On a lift....my mechanic removed the starter...made it much easier.

We had to shave 3 bolts (the ones that go into the block) to make the headers fit. Your system may differ.

This is much easier on a lift but can be done at home. I believe Zack has done it several times in his garage.

Find a friendly mechanic to get the job done....even be willing to travel a bit to get it done right.

You won't be disappointed with the results.

With the Trilogy and the Kooks you'll be over 400rwhp.

Thanks for the help - and I'll work on the profile. This forum is an excellent source of info. on the MM and it (and a couple of members in particular) are responsible for me purchasing a Marauder in June and having AA install a Trilogy kit even before I set eyes on the car. Drove the car home overnight from Novi, MI to CT - w/ only 57 miles on the clock at the start of the journey!

I'm in Southwest CT - and would be willing to travel a couple of hrs to the right shop - I was hoping Kooks could do it at their location in LI.

Thanks again,

Roger D

AA did my install too.

Great work they do. Well worth the extra travel time.

Good luck with your search for a Kooks installer. I'm sure someone out there would know. BillyGMan might have an idea...

Give him a few hours...he's usually on later at night.....he'll respond.

My mechanic said that it was one of the best/easiest kits he'd installed in years....:)

Do the research on this site and find member testimonials as to their self installations. They contain pages of usefull tricks and tribulations to share with your prospective installer prior to job start.

#1 Search the Kooks install threads as suggested Your installer will thank you.

As the guy who HAD to shave the area around the bolt on the steering shaft, for me it was a must.

When you do your search you will also find a comment I made in Sept about me looking at 3 other Marauders besides mine in Indy this year and all had tubes with slightly differnt alianment of the tubes.

Every issue ,clearence, shaving etc may be required.

I did the installation of the entire Kooks exhaust, and I'venever even performed exhaust work before! The headers i did on my own, and my brother helped me w/the rest of the Kooks exhaust. the headers weren't bad at all w/the exception of the header bolts, and that was only because i chose the stage 8 locking header bolts which are much more difficult to install than standard bolts. i didn't even have to do any welding, but it's liely that you'll need to have the passenger side muffler welded to the tailpipe. BTW, you might try Janetti racing in Waterbury. they do all kinds of high perf work. just don't let that guy talk you into dyno tuning your car. Since you also have a Trilogy S/cer like I do, then I wouldn't recommend getting a custom dyno tune from anyone but Lidio. he knows these engines as well as the Trilogy S/cer the best.
