I use the spot free rinse at the self service car wash and a California Car Duster. It was Maury's idea and works pretty well.

I am looking to get the liner itself logo'd. Any thoughts on that?

I'm sorry, Bro- I thought you were trying to clean it. If it were me, I'd call the folks in Marrietta that did your mats but I've also seen some cool GM underhood insulators at www.carmotorsports.com (http://www.carmotorsports.com)- they do custom work too.

I made two attempts to have a design airbrushed on the liner. Both were utter failures.
It all started out nice, but the problem is that the material on the liner is extremely thin and tears easily. Both attempts with the air brush blew holes in the outer skin and the inner fiberglass filling was exposed.
I have one done in the garage, but I won't dare post it out of shear embarrassment.
Since then, I have considered that if it were possible to coat the liner with some type of coating that would seal it and protect it from future tearing, we could probably re airbrush it.
I ended up buying two liners at the dealer at a whopping $80 each, and after ruining the first two, gave up, and decided it wasn't worth the trouble.
Good luck.
BTW: Wholesale cost if you are good with a parts person is about $53 or so. Give it a try.

To all,
Based on my experience with bowtie stuff (aka C5 Vette) there is a `trick' to getting the paint to adhere to the hood liner -- just like body work, you must PREP the surface. People have successfully used Hi Temp Flat Black BBQ paint as a SEALER coat and then proceeded to paint the Colored Design on top of the BBQ paint coating.
For our MMs, we need to get the hood pad `stamped/embossed' with the Mercury Godshead (or MM.net logo) and then have the `stamping' painted SILVER or RED to show up, IMHO. It needs to be LARGE to be effective and showy!!!
Background: The C5 Vette has an embossed (done branding iron style) hood insulation pad with the C5 Emblem. Many have painted their underhood emblem to match their exterior color -- mine is painted Nassau Blue (Bright Blue with Red & White checkered flags and the outer circle and flag stems done in Nassau Blue.

Heh heh. I knew this come up once before right HERE. (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7133)
I was interested not as much in paint but in an emossed logo or embossed and painted logo. The one I saw on an Impala SS was really very cool. Need a great big Merc Head logo in there.

Hmm. Embroidered. Would not have expected that. I am sure the one I saw was embossed and painted. The logo was big too. Almost as wide as the insulator.

I've seen some cars at shows that have used aluminum faced Dynomat to line their hoods (after removing the OEM liner). They had cut the Dynomat to fit between the underhood structural braces..looked pretty good when done right.

Embroidery -- very doubtful. You can only embroider the area that can fit INSIDE an Embroidery Hoop. Max size is probably 12 ", but not much more.
The embossing for hood pads, etc. is usally done with pressure and heat.
What we really need is the equivalent of the Front Seat Embossing enlarged 10X and transferred to the Hoodpad.
If someone can figure it out, who/where/etc, I'm game for 2 hood pads!!!

TAF,
OK, I stand corrected. Bought my Vette Hood pad 2 years ago and only painted ones were available at that time.
$64K ?? -- Will this outfit do something for our MMs since all I saw at their website was General Motors related???
An Embroidered Hood Pad would make a VERY nice Christmas present or 2!!!! You knew I would need 2 for our 2 MMs  !!!
Todd, you are the man!!! Go for it!
Let us know the details when you find out. Thank you.

I've seen them air brushed. They can paint anything you want on it.

wouldn't an underhood liner that has any type of graphics on it be close to impossible to keep clean?

You could always have a polished stainless steel panel made like this..
