Hello All,

My first posting here. I have been interested in the Marauder for a number of months, and just recently graduated from college and somehow landed a job. (yay me!) My question is, being a recent college grad, I'm ready to purchase my first new vehicle. And you guess it, a Marauder. My question pertains to dealing with the car salesmen. I read a lot on here about rebates and discounts, and lower prices. How do I find these things out if they don't tell me. Right now the best offer I have found in the metro detroit area is full price with 0.0% financing. Do the dealers vary prices between one another (I haven't noticed if they do), and they don't seem very competitive against one another, so shopping around hasn't done much for me. Is there a certain way to approach this, that this 23 year old doesn't know?

Hopefully this hasn't been too long of a message.
Thank you guys. This site is great.

There are some good bank financing deals out there right now. Try negotiating under the assumption you're not going to use the 0% Ford financing. I ended up getting one for around 30k. Let them know you're serious about buying the car - get the financing pre-approved. Keep trying. Let us know how it turns out.

If you want 0.0% financing for the MM, you can also get a $1,000 factory rebate with that.

If you don't finance, the current rebate is $3,000.

Chances are you can buy the car for invoice - $31,500 and get $3,000 back from Mercury. Car will cost you $28,500.

Dazed,if you haven't already seen it,check my post "buying from a dealer? check this out." Go to the site listed and read up on different scams and tactics used by dealers. Forewarned is fore armed. I think I could use that spell checker about now.

Today's Detroit News has a MM for $25,700 advertised on page 6P. (No, I don't hold stock in the dealership ;) ).

Make sure to check out the fit and finish, look for swirl marks, check out all of the rubber moldings for fit, make sure the floor mats are correct, the exhaust tips should be even, the wipers should park correctly, etc. Cruise this forum to see what other initial flaws folks have found.

Ask for some free oil changes. You'll want to get a comped rental car written up in the sales agreement (no verbal's from the salesman, get it in writing) that if they tie up the MM for a day you get a car to use.

Since the cars are Version 1.0 there's no track record on reliability or rust.

I can say that I"ve been very pleased with mine. It's not as fast as Mercury would lead you to believe, but it handles 'way better than they advertise (why is that? Put one of these things on a curving entrance ramp to the freeway and it BEGS to be driven hard. Why not advertise that???)

It won't outrun a Subaru WRX, or a Z06 'vette, or a Cobra. But it will get you and three friends, and a LOT of luggage to your destination in comfort at speed. Your clothes won't be wrinkled, your knuckles won't be white, and your friends will be impressed :).

It's really more of a Grand Turisimo than it is a Muscle Car.

Check out the Mercury Web Page

http://www.mercuryvehicles.com/

You'll find dealers in your area and also what the rebates are. Also check to see if they will also give you a "recently graduated from college" rebate! My area is giving $400.

On June 16, 2003, Ford Motor Company will celebrate its 100-year anniversary. To kick off this grand event, Mercury will be joining Ford this summer in hosting a nationwide celebration. We're very excited to be part of such an important family history and hope you will join us as we honor those who've made a difference, and helped build the Ford Motor Company. Can you wait till June 2003????????

The original price was around $41,000. They lowerd it to $34,000 or $33,000.
