I had the same problem. The fade time will decrease until the radio makes no sound at all. Mine faded in both AM and FM.

The radio was replaced under warranty. Be sure they replace it with the same radio. The Grand Marquis and other radios look very similar but don't have the subwoofer drive and other features.

I have noted that all the 2005 STAP cars have a external radio antenna in the right rear fender... Problems with the one in the glass or just another cost savings measure? I have seen in the the Grand Marquis Ultimate and the lowliest P71 with rubber mats.. Does not appear to be powered, so do not know the car wash implications.

Since new mine get static when I use the rear window defogger. Dealer replaced the radio twice. Still same problem. 2 other cars on the lot did the same thing. Very annoying. I have been just dealing with it the past year.
I tradied in my Towncar with the same set up and it never did this.
