I managed to get over to the Brainard Optimist Club Drag Strip in Northern GA last night. It's an 1/8 mile track just over the TN border. I went to practice reaction time, when I could keep my focus. Had a great time, managed to get the .525 to .565 rt's most of the time. The car ran good, as expected. Mostly low to mid 9.6's with pretty consistant 2.23ish 60' times. Managed to beat several Mustang GT's, one guy was pretty bugged by this, an El Camino, and an Impala. The SS was in the 10's most of the time with overheating problems. I looked under his hood, and it seemed he was pretty light on the coolant, as there was none in the overflow bottle. I told him, but he seemed to think he knew what he was doing. I also got beat by a ricer on the juice, a pretty looking silver Camaro (2002?), a couple Cobras (although I was closer than I thought), and an RX7 with a small block stuffed in it. They did have trouble with the timing system printer, the first few slips were hand printed, then the rest all had to be picked up in the tower. The printer was slow, and I didn't get all of mine, but I still had a ball. Best run was 9.614 @ 75.87, with a 2.210 60'. I'll try to post a photo and a few slips later.

Paul, excellent reaction times, I think you have the right idea running the 1/8 mile because the launch in our cars is everything, after that is just about keeping it in a straight line (I have been known to screw that up too) your best 60' is better than anything I have ever done and I have a couple of slips I'm very proud of. Keep making those Mustang boys wonder WTF.... as you pass them.

I'm going to try. I have to go up to Asheville on Thursday to set up a new office. If all goes well with the new WAN I can make it, otherwise it might be a long weekend. :bigcry:

Got back out to the Optimist again Friday night. Got a few runs in (a dozen or so, hey I'm having fun). I lost about 8/100's on the 1/8 all night, I think due to the weather. It was nearly 80 at the start and dropped all the way to 75 when I left, as compared to the low 60's to mid 50's last week. I was there for r/t training anyway, sothe times didn't concern me. Good news on the r/t's too. I ranged from .512 to .707, with most in the .58's. Just the one .707, a .606, and a .697 that didn't count. The .697 happened on the "run of the night." Almost simultainiously with the third yellow, the starter tried to wave us off. Too late, I was off, 60' in 2.574, timing lights flashing SLOW, 330 ft in 9.376, really idling up a storm, 1/8 in 14.880 at 42.16 mph. Seems a doe and fawn were so impressed with the Marauder, they decided to wander out in the slowdown area. Deer whistles kicked in, and off they strolled. No injuries, and I didn't show them anything to tip off their brethre, the Impalas.
