OK, I just removed mine after 17.5 months and 26K miles. Anyone else last longer with these? I'm just curious. I know they're crappy, but I finally got really disgusted with them this past weekend.

I had mine until the first day it rained (2 days) the dealer put new ones on. There's a tsb on 'em. IMHO 17.5 months is way longer than I'd expect to be reasonible life for 'em though.

I've got 28.5 on my OEM blades. Still working ok. I'm on my second windshield though. I'll probably be replacing them for winter.

Exactly.

The original factory blades sucked. I first put on NAPA silicone blades, but they didn't last long. On the general recommendation of the board, I installed Bosch Micro-Edge XL blades and they've been great. A bit pricey, but worth it for the superior cleaning and blissful silence.

I tried Michelins and so far they are very quiet and "get everything." I wonder how long they will last.

Yes, Michelin wiper blades.

Store didn't have Bosch or that other kind mentioned above.

My OEM blades sat in the sun for 21 months until I bought the car in July, and they seem to work great. Don't leave a drop on the glass and are quiet to boot. That's one mod I did not understand people doing, although perhaps cars made before mine (10/23/02 mfr) had a problem. (?)

Tnx.

My build date was 6/02,, the only time I have used them was at MV2, they worked fine for me,

First thing to go on my Marauder:mad:

How the hell can Mercury charge that much money to a car with *## blades?

Bosch Micro-Edge XL blades are worth the money. 3 sets in 20,000 miles:mad:

Killed one set on the way to Ohio in June and another on the way to MVII in July.

FMC changed the blades on the 03 300B Marauders. Mine are working great with no problems.

Still on the factory blades. Coming up on six months/8-9000 miles and will replace mine at 12 months. Here in Florida the sun cooks the rubber in any blade pretty fast. I've tried the pricey blades and nothing lasts long before they get hard and start to crack and that's why I replace them every year with the regular Anco replacement blades. $5 isn't too much to spend every year to be assured I won't be turning them on to be suprised by a torn blade.

Properly aligned wiper arms never chatter against clean glass, let alone Rain-X treated. However, road grime, Rain-X or not, is a main cause of wiper chatter. I can't cite you the number or date of the General Motors TSB on what to use to clean this gunk off but I will tell you what it told us to use...

Guys, the Motorcraft wiper blades that replaced the OEM's are not expensive, and work just fine. They're "wear indicator" type that IIRC are made for Motorcraft by Valeo

Valeo -

The "smartblade" is identical to the Motorcraft part.

No problem with mine. Still the same ones from day one!

The last few time I have replaced wiper blades Motorcraft came with a small foil package and a silicone wipe to treat the rubber. I have used this method with spray silicone to keep the rubber clean,It seems to help them .Mine have been on for almost a year and 13K still wipe clean, no lines. They do leave a slight film evenly across the glass. They will be replaced befor it gets nasty outside.

Every 6 months I put new regular Anco refills on all the cars. Just part of spring and winter maint.

The only small problem is that every now & then I ruin a blade and have to run back to the parts store for a new one.

I used to buy complete new blades for the driver side every six months (regular blades in spring, winter blades in fall) & swap the old blade over to the passenger side. This was a little quicker than doing refills and provided good vision for me even if it was more expensive. Then I got the Intrepid for my wife which uses different size right and left blades. The process became a more expensive and always seemed just a little wastefull tossing out the blades every six months. Plus sometimes the passengers complained about poor visability.

I switched to the regular refill routine which seems a little better overall even if it does take an extra 20 min to do the work.

Hey Fireman. Don't know the exact specifics, but all you gotta do is go to the service dept and tell 'em you've got some of the bad blades, and they replace them, at no charge, with the good ones. My '04 MM was a Dec 03 build, and later ones may have the new replacements, but I'm betting the supply of junk ones were already at the plant in Canada, and they kept installing them on the MM's until they ran out.:sunshine:

My own two cents, I have a 6/02 build car with the original blades. They still work ok, about ready to replace. That's pretty darn good for Phoenix, even if the car has spent a fair amount of time in my garage.

No! c'mon ..it rained in Phoenix? Really?
Um, any of the following reasons?
1. She was in Fairfield, PA?
2. She drove through the lawn sprinklers?
3. Flock of dirty birds?
4. none of the above?

Y'mean those weather guys who tell us about AZ being a desert have been lying to us all these years?

Actually, you'd think the sun would have baked 'em to a crisp, by now.:sunshine:

Well, we do get about 4" of rain a year or something like that. Whatever it is, it is not as much as I had in FL or ME....

It is fun watching the folks that grew up here drive in the rain.... I park the cars and telecommute when I can because of those morons :help:

Mine ended up leaving rubber debris on the glass. It streaked so bad I could barely see in a rainstorm. I'm using the cheapo stock Anco blades now. They work.

Has anyone used SilBlades? They offer a 5-year unconditional guarantee!
www.silblades.com (http://www.silblades.com).

They come in standard and winter setups plus a rainbow of colors if you want your MM to look like a rice-mobile.

I did a www.Google.com (http://www.Google.com) search under "silblade reviews (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=SilBlades+review&btnG=Google+Search)" and there were nothing but raves about how awsome they were and most reviews were trucks and german cars. I couldn't find a reviewer that had more than 2 years of service clocked.

$21.00 on the Silblades website less one dollar if you are a mercurymarauder or other club member. The AudiWorld.com club recommends www.ttstuff.com (http://www.ttstuff.com/) where they are $13.99 each for our 22" blades (http://www.ttstuff.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=SIL-122).

Anyhow, I ordered a set in black frames and black blades (not adventurous enough to go with colors). I will update the site with my review after the first crappy MN snowstorm.

Hey Dan, I just bought a set at the dealer and had the same thing you posted I brought them back and the second pair are fine:confused: I've never seen the blade leave the residue (blak mark) on the glass. Was this the same complaint people had on the first set that came on the car?

SilBlades<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I stumbbled across an old post of mine where I was looking at Silblade wipers.
I said I would write a review after a full winter. So I figured I would let you know the results.

I bought them in Nov. 2004. Now they are 2 years and 4 months old with about 15,000 road miles. They still wipe like new and look like new.

The clippy-thing that hold the wiper to the drivers side arm cracked some time in year two. Called Silblades, they appoligized and sent out a replacement part within 3 days (plus 3 extras just in case it happened again).

I have put these on another vehicle and they are also performing very well at about 1 year.

Very highly recommended.

(Now they have blade similar to the FACTORY MM blades for $25 each that I will probly pick up when the 5-year warranty is up on the ones I have now.)

www.silblade.com (http://www.silblade.com)

$15.99 each (plus ship)

Doesn't matter what type of blades I put on mine. I've tried at least three different brands. They all do the same thing.

At speeds under 70 MPH, they will work fine unless in high wind.

In high wind or on the highway at 70+, they will not clear the driver's side and will instead "bounce" across the glass. I'm sure it has to do with angle or tension in the arm itself, but haven't gotten around to messing with it.

Motorcraft OEM replacements work fine! 40k road use, and a yr and 1/2 later still clean like new.

I have been using Rain-X and my first set of OEM wipers lasted about about 2 years or about 40,000 miles. This very difficult to believe but I have experienced it. I hardly ever use my wipers.

I live in New England which gets about 30 inches of precipitation (rain and snow)/year.
