Hello all, I am a newbie and have owned my Marauder for about 6 weeks(2003 with 7100 miles on it). This weekend my wife and went on a small trip and I tested my mileage on the way back, 70 Deg. outside no AC needed and to my suprise we got 30 MPG. Now I was trying for my best mileage, slow starts, never over 65 and using the cruise control on long straight highways. Has anyone else gotten this kind of mileage? This is the best of both worlds, great power and great fuel economy!!! My wife can't believe it. I'm tickled pink!!!!!!!!:P

Hi Gent, and welcome aboard. You probably win for the best fuel mileage catagory although I must say I'm not surprised. You had perfect weather and you were driving sanely. I got 25 mpg on my Marauder last year coming home from Colorado. I had the cruise set at 80 with the a/c on and a trunk load of luggage. Enjoy the ride.
P.S. Do you know if your car has any modifications on it? I know having the power tune helps our vehicles out a great deal.

Gent,
Congrats on your new Marauder and welcome to the MM.Net. :welcome:
The best mileage that I have been able to get on the highway is 23 mpg. Drops to 18-19 around town. Of course, I have a real hard time keeping my foot out of it. I didn't buy this car for the gas mileage. I bought it for the "Smileage". :D Happy Maraudering !!!

30 MPG in a Marauder ? Was some one pushing you or were you going Down Hill ? I've never heard of that before, but their is always the first time. I see this is your first post and would like to welcome you the site & wish you the best of luck with your new Marauder.

Gentle starts?
Staying under 65mph?
I don't think you're driving properly!
Seriously, that's neat to hear, and I'll bet not out of the realm of possibility.
I know ours had pulled 24 mpg before, and that's with a heavy foot, a full load, West Virginia mountains, and lots of A/C.
These are the perfect have your cake and eat it too cars.

Has anyone else gotten this kind of mileage?
Uhh....NO!:D
The first month I owned the car I averaged 13.6 MPG.
On a trip to MV-1 Ennis TX I got 22.5.
With my latest bout of mods and tuning, this last trip to Maryland yielded 20.5 consistantly.

Like any good science, the results are true* if they can be duplicated, I have a single instance of 25.3 mpg, no claims by me until I can repeat it.
* By true I mean consistent, not that you are not being honest.:D

I'm consistently getting 11 to 12 mpg. I guess that counts. I've never done any better than 15 mpg, but I only do in town driving and I've never taken it on more than a 30 mile trip.:depress:

My MM best is 23mpg.
I once got 26mpg in my 2002 Crown Vic on a very long straight highway, no A/C, 75 degrees, cruise, and a slight tail wind.

Bone stock, new air filter and fresh change to 0w30 Mobil 1 oil. I have checked my mileage before and have gotten near 27 MPG with the AC on. And probably like the rest of you, I find it hard not to get on the gas!!!!!!!!

On the Florida trip , saving all my slips and marking the mileage at each fill up:
22.853 mpg over the whole trip.
Cruise speeds were between 70-90 mph

I have logged every tank since day 1 and on one occasion I have gotten 27MPG. Going from Pittsburgh to Baltimore all hwy 65-75 mph with a full trunk and three passengers. Mother in law was in the back so I was on my best behavior with gentle stops and starts. Normally I am at 19-22 MPG.
I believe 30 is possible, not common or even likely, but possible. I am simply not willing to drive that way.

I keep track of all my mileage in an excel spreadsheet. Since I bought the car Sep 11th I have put in 29 tanks for an average of 16.9mpg. On a highway trip going for the absolute fuel economy record, following trucks at 60mph, I only got 22.5! I have a column where I describe where I was or how I was driving, dragstrip is 15, road course is 8, autoX is 15. City driving is usually 15 or 16, I frequently put a ?? because I don't remember driving it THAT hard...

Check your math.
Miles traveled (380) / fuel used (17 gallons) = 30 mpg.....Yeah that's the ticket.
No disrespect intended, I am just kidding - That is incredible mileage.

Having had my Marauder for just a couple of days more than a month, I have logged over 2800 miles and only yesterday on a trek to Lancaster, PA did I check my mileage. With speeds ranging from 75 to 90 and the occasional romp on the gas to get around those #:censor: * that insist on staying in the left lane, I got 24.2 mpg. I really didn't want to check my mileage then, but curiosity got the best of me. Just being behind the wheel of that car at highway speed is worth every gallon she takes. As always, when it's near 1/4 tank, I'll gladly fill 'er up again.
That's my story and I'm stickin to it. :bandit:

I average 18.3 normally with a combination of city and hwy driving. However, on a trip down south in the spring I became ill and my wife and daughter drove back, 25-26 MPG. At least my right foot isn't sick.
Welcome to the site. i hope you have as much fun with your Maurader as I do with mine.

I get 17-18 mpg on the highway, my brother was getting 19-20 when it was his turn behind the wheel to and from Indy. I can get 12-15 around town depending how much stop and start, traffic lights, idling, etc. It's a nice trade off with all the mods. -kjs-

Don't get too excited. With your mother in law in back your mileage is bound to go up. All that hot air is like helium and makes your cars ground weight go down quite a bit.

????? 380/17 = 22.35mpg.
I've never been able to get more than 17 gallons in the tank at fill up. And that's running it down til the needle is absolutely on the E.
To get 30mpg on 17 gallons of gas, I'd have to go 510 miles! The best I've ever gotten is 25.9mpg. I for one don't believe it. Something must've been figured or measured wrong. Especially on a new, not broken in motor. IMHO.

Although I have run mine low enough to get 18 gallons in. I have never gotten 400 miles on a tank of gas. If one actually used 17 or 18 gallons at 30 mpg, you would have gotten 510 to 540 miles on the tank.
It's a little like the motorcyclist that got a ticket for going 205 mph 40 miles east of me. No way could he have run that fast on a fairly stock bike----or even on a pretty heavily modified bike capable of running a touring event as he was. The patrolman in the airplane clicked a 4.39 seconds for a 1/4 mile instead of maybe 5.6 seconds for 160 mph.
To get 30 mpg in an MM requires either poor math or refilling after only 150 miles and then only putting in 5 gallons and not getting the last 1.5 gallons in.
I don't mean to start any flame war----it's that a real 30 mpg, for an MM, isn't in the cards.
Oh yes, I'm right at 20.1 mpg overall at 12,000 miles-----95% highway at 72-74 mph.

It's really easy to get variations in MPG readings simply due to the variation in the sensitivity of the auto shutoff at some pumps. In one extreme case, I waited for the auto shutoff when fueling my GTA sometime in the mid 90s, had it click a few times just to be sure (sometimes just basic vapor pressure in the tank seems to activate the shutoff), and drove off... half a tank! This was an extreme case, to be sure, but in most cases I can usually trickle in another gallon after the first shutoff.
The filler neck in the gas tank is usually not a straight shot to the tank itself, so there are pockets of air that form. After the first 'click', I'll usually pull out the nozzle slightly and watch for fuel to bubble up. This usually requires VERY careful control of the nozzle trigger... anything more than what feels like a trickle will activate the shutoff. I'll occasionally see the fuel emerge from around the nozzle and will manually release the trigger, only to see the level drop once again. Repeat, watch the level fall again, etc... sometimes I can squeeze in another 1/4 gallon?
I'll usually give up once I see the level of fuel, usually just enough to cover perhaps 1/5 of the metal flap in the filler neck.
As long as I can SEE the level of fuel, I know I can repeat the same fuel level next time, rather than put my faith in the auto shutoff sensitivities being identical. Also, larger fillups will tend to minimize the effect of any disparity in fuel level. For example, filling up to a set visible level and driving for 10 minutes then stopping to refill: if you put in 1 gallon to arrive at what you think is the original level, but in effect a small pocket of air would have let you put in another 10th of a gallon, that's a 10% variation right there! A 20 mpg automobile suddenly pulled 22 mpg... etc.
I've been tracking every fuel fillup in all my cars since 1993, every one of my cars. Trust me, all it takes is a small variation to wildly bump the numbers.
All this being said, I've had ONE 27 mpg result in the past 2 years with my MM, and several 24-25 results. I still believe that this 27 mpg would be repeatable (smooth level highway at 65-67 mph, cruise control, stroller and full family in car) since this result coincided with some slow small-town driving to get to a car show I was going to shoot in 2003. However, it's been tough to hold back... the MM has good highway legs and it's tough to keep it at 65 mph.

Gent, welcome. I am also somewhat a newbie, and as yet have put very few miles on my '04, aquired in 3/04, so can't give you a mileage figure. Just made the first complete fill up on it a couple of weeks ago and didn't log the mileage. Have put about 200 mi. on it, mostly on the near by rural hwy., on a 25 mi rnd. trip around some twisties, across the dam and back, with OD off much of the time and R foot to floor likewise. I could drive sensibly on a short trip like you did, for about 6 miles. Enjoy!
