Just got back to Chattanooga. What a great time again! A couple of our bretheren here had some awesome days, I'll let them tell you about it. I have some photos, which I will post tomorrow, after work. Me, except for getting owned by an 18 second rental car, I did okay. If you think bracket racing is easy, try sitting at the light for 4 seconds while some boxy Dodge gets smaller. I couldn't handle the pressure, and I'm not too sure on how to practice that. Best part of the day, seeing and talking with the members here, some old SS pals, and some new fast friends. To sum it all up, I HAD A BLAST!!!

Some guy in a Silver Trilogy Marauder came into Impalaville and won the "C" Class Bracket racing (12.99 or faster) 1st Place trophy (Not the big dog...but still not too shabby!) Rumor had it he drove 1100 miles to attend also.

Wonder who the heck that was!!! ;) :D

I did everything I could to keep the Marauder name in the back of every SS owners mind....as in "watch out" :D

Thanks for all the support today.....Everyone. It was great to meet so many people I can't even imagine where to start....!

Pics to come on Monday. Gotta get some sleep and drive home tomorrow!

As Paul said....a great great time.

The Impala people are a first class group. I'll definitely be attending again the future. There was talk at the awards ceremony tonight about them putting another one together next year.

Smokie, my best was 14.6xx, don't know exactly, slips are in the car and I'm already undressed for bed. Missed you there. I was pleased, not too bad for a 70K mile daily driver with the stock gears still in it!

It was a fun day! About 10 Marauders or so ran, one or more qualified in every class. Lots of first-timers, y'all chime in if you had fun... I ran my personal best time of 13.636 in the morning time trials, qualified 7th in the "Hobo" class, which is bolt-on mods only (stock crank, cams, pistons, heads, not sure about power adders but I don't have any) and I ran 13.7x all day long. I really need to work on my r/t, 0.200 or so gets me beat every time I line up against somebody half-way decent at this. Glad to hear we took a trophy in the "C" class brackets!

Dialed in for the final runs at 12.7.

Last two runs I won were 12.722 and 12.737 at 108 or so.

I won the Class C championship and in the King of the Hill running (bracket class winners against each other) I kept the 12.7 but hooked the stock OEM tires to get a 1.8 0-60 foot time which translated into a 12.55 (broke out)...and I laid off at the end because I had the guy by a car length....now I know why....scary thing is my opponent broke out also...by like .02.

This is a 12.2-12.3 car with a good set of drag radials or slicks.

Few other minor mods next summer and I'll be knocking on the door of the 12.1's.

Great again to meet everyone.....more later!

:banana2:

PS: Tom Adair did very well with his Vortech'ed MM. He ran consistent 13.1's and almost got to the finals of Class B. A set of slicks and this guy's gonna win some bracket races!

Many others had very good showings....Glenn, Kathy...so many more!

Marty, Todd and everyone involved in the project...one awesome car. It was great to meet everyone!...and I know I forgota bunch... :depress: Just getting tired...off to bed!

I wish there were more tracks up here.

I'm glad to hear you guys had fun. Some of us are wondering how the beast formerly known as the S*****T P*****T did. Don't expect or want anyone else to post the results and ruin it for Marty. It's just the anticipation factor's got me sitting on the edge of my seat.

I know we'll hear results once the guys get home and get some rest. I hope it went well. :D

I got there late (1:30 PM) and the brackets were just starting. Saw Marauderchick and FordNut (but didn't get to talk) - no sign of MartyO or TAF. They didn't race! Did something happen in the test 'n tune?

That silver MM was awesome! For a while I thought he was gonna steal it all!

Saw some Chevys "blow up good" - and a Lincoln MK VII with NOS went boom!

I think I have a <poor quality> video of one of his burn outs and wins. I think he broke out in the semi-finals.

That green Impala that ran so well at Indy (Pat?) was on a roll and headed for the finals when a fluid leak knocked him out. He might could have taken "Big Dog" and/or "King of the Hill" if not for that.

In the end it was 2 Chevys going at it for "King of the Hill." But FoMoCo was well-represented. I saw at least one Town Car run, 10 or so MMs, 3 or 4 MK VIIs, a couple of MK VIIIs, a wicked fast 90's SC Cougar, a CV or 2, a ragged Merc wagon (last year's "King of the Hill") and a Mustang (during the open track portions.)

A great event! Thanks to our Chevy friends for a great show and for being such gracious hosts.

Now, where were Todd and Marty?

Now, where were Todd and Marty?

Well, I don't want to keep folks guessing, so here's where we were (and are).

My car (with a driver far better than I can ever hope to be) made two passes.

On the first pass, my car blew a belt in the burn out box. I tried to have my driver (Shankin - a member here) abort the run, but could not get his attention over the noise of the thundering cars. So, he made a slow speed pass with no boost. We then parked the car and set about straightening out the belt situation.

We borrowed tools from one of the Impala guys who was also running a Procharger F1R. Unfortunately in all the hustle I did not get his name, but if he follows our site, he will know who he is. And to him I say "thanks!!". If someone knows how I can get with him, please show me the way.

We then got set for another run. Unfortunately, during that run, my fuel pump failed in the staging lanes. I was able to make a quick repair and the car was fired. Shankin (Jeff) did a mild burnout and staged. He launched my car in spectacular fashion. Unfortunately, the fuel pump failed again at less than 300 feet and Jeff had to shut my car down. I will post a video on Monday when I am back in NY and have better internet access.

We decided not to do any more work in the pits and so we joined the crowds in the stands and set the Boy back on the trailer.

Tonight the fuel pump situation is being straightened out. I am in the process of changing my travel plans. We will run the car again on Sunday at Dallas Dragway, and continue to sort out the problems.

We are heading in the right direction, but I must admit that it sure hasn't been easy. This car has simply awesome potential and we are sneaking up on it. Just a little slower than I would like!! In the meantime, for those of you considering a motor swap for something other than the stock motor, be sure to read my book: 1,001 Things I Learned While Moddin'

As for Todd, well he stood by me during the whole day, like a good friend would, leaving him no room for his own personal racing. So to him, I once again say "Thanks!! You are a GREAT friend".

Good luck running it today!

Great to meet you and Todd....thanks again for coming back later yesterday as I was getting to the end of the bracket racing. Its truly appreciated.

Sorry I missed you. After I got eliminated I went to the pits and saw that most of the MM crew was gone so I went ahead and packed up for the trip back home. Didn't see your car or I would have tried to look you up.

Yeah, that "low speed" pass was still in the 14s even with the blower belt off. I stopped by Team Ford on the way back to TN, but I reckon y'all was done gone (how's that for hick talk). Hope Dallas goes well. It's only a 1/8th mile but I hear it's got awesome traction. Post results later, OK...

I don't know. His identifying mark was that he had a Bentley in his trailer. Sweet "Chase Vehicle".

I do know this though. Our very own Stumpy (Glenn) won in his class. So as I said in my earlier post: Mucho props to the Impala guys.

And Paul for talking me into it!!!!! I"M HOOKED!!!! If nothing else I did my first real :burn: !!! That to me was worth the trip. If someone got a pic please share.

A short time later I looked behind me and saw (for the first time in the dark) a MM coming up behind me. At night with the fog lamps on cant miss that. Way cool. And too see people looking at Paul passing them then another MM right behind.........PRICELESS!!!!!! !!!!!1

Fast cars, blue sky, good people...it was a super nice day...made some more friends...watched some great racing...got sun burned...MMs made a lot better showing this year than last...missed Mad, Smokie and Bob Mathis though...all good guys...felt for Marty but it will happen...must have been 15 MMs there...wanted to get a pic of all and lined up but everyone split...congrats to FiveO...you made us proud...OBTW I believe God helped mister John R. in the red SS that was so fast (10.2) anyone that was there knows what I mean...he had about the prettiest and fastest SS there...would have hated to have seen him rolled it...I hope the SS guys put it on next year...if not I nominate TAF and the group at Atl. for the job....willie

Had a great day at SSHS4 with my son Chris (GaTech - NROTC). We met Many MM owners - Marty, Todd, Scott and the Team Ford pit crew, Brian, Tom, Kathy, Mark, Paul, Donny, Bill and others. Marty's car looked and sounded great and has awesome potential and will be a terrific runner.

Mark did us all proud my winning the Class C championship with his nice 2004 Silver MM with Trilogy S/C. He also had the best burn-outs at the races - just unbelievable.

Metco was at the show and had some great show prices from Ron. Got a Watts linkage and drive shaft loop.

I ran 11 passes with the MM and had a best ever of 14.00 with 281 HP and some modest mods. (Thanks to Brian and Mark for answering my bracket racing questions.) Some background information on the runs. The Metco arms help launch the car really hard. I had to launch at idle and then only 2/3 throttle for the first 100 feet or the tires (new BFG) would lite-up. I had an early run with the car launching at 1,200 rpm and it decided to make a hard left turn (TC and O/D off). That was the last run on the wall side.

Won four rounds in Class A bracket racing with a dial-in of 14.00. Had a best time of 14.008 late in the afternoon when it was getting cooler and decided to lower my dial-in to 13.98. Ran against an Impala SS with a 14.1x and lost by .007 due to my new dial-in number. But, I had a super time.

Looking forward to next year and seeing everyone again.

My very day on the drag strip!!!! I don't think I did too bad for a first timer.....

I was running between 14.72 and 14.85......I dialed in at 14.70 and won the first round of bracket racing......then I changed my dial in to 14.80 for the second round, and it took waaaay longer than I anticipated for the second round to start....so.....I think my car had time to cool off....and therefore, on the 2nd run, I ran a 14.4!!!!! (not too bad, huh??).....so the time was good, but it caused me to be eliminated from the 3rd round.....oh well.....I had the BEST TIME EVER!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS MARK!!!!! :bows: :bows: :bows: I knew you could do it!!! Sorry, I wasn't there to see it!! My daughter was tired and wanted to go home.....it was a great pleasure meeting you and Tammy. Hope to see you guys again in the near future!!

It was great seeing everyone else as well.....let's see if I can get everybody in here....
Marty, Todd, Jeff, Scott, Aric, Jason and family, Tyler, Reed, Dan, Coli, Donny, Patrick, Brian and his wife, Paul, Glenn, George, Tom, Kathy, Steve and his son and girlfriend, Bill, Dave and his lovely wife (thanks for letting me borrow your shoe-polish).....hope I didn't miss anybody....

It was a FUN, FUN, FUN day!!! Can't wait to do it again!!!!

About 50 ft. after the fuel pump failure while the team pushed it. The seats are comfortable but the steering is a little heavy:) .
I'd echo everything that's been said here. I think I had as much fun as I did at either Marauderville. It's very hard to go and not race. It's probably even harder not to meddle with the racers (folks were good-natured about it and nobdy ran me off). I mostly held fasteners and ice and wiped sweat off the foreheads of real wrenches (ER style) while they did speedy repairs.
A fine group of folks were in attendance and although there was a "dark time" (Coli made me take her to the Outlet Mall).
I also have to say this:
No matter how good the video is NOTHING prepares you for the sounds and sights of Marty's car. It shakes your insides in a place that probably doesn't have a name. Was it worth the cost of the trip? Hell yeah!!! Do I wish the car had made a "full potential" pass? Yep but the call it "the edge" for reason, right?
I also have the best relic from the event. I have the belt from the first Hellboy pass. I plan to pass it to our local MM historian (Cruzer) who will probably put it in a sacred spot in the garage Hellboy visited before MVI. A fitting tribute to the owner, builders and fans of the most evil of Marauders.

My bests, a 14.665 and a 14.642. I also won an opening round race, but really choked in round 2. I've got to work on my patience. I want to thank all who came, especially Glen and Five-O. I think I may have had more fun in the staging lanes than they did while they were winning. I was pretty excited, and it couldn't happen to two nicer men. They are truely a credit to this board, and the human race. Also, thanks Glen for disposing of that pesky 18.50 second Dodge that sent me packing! :bows:

Marty, about the blower belt ripping, may I suggest that you have it replaced w/the Goodyear "Gatorback" belt? That's what I have done on my Marauder simply because those belts are more robust. Not only do they grip better because of their cross-cut design that looks just like an Alligator's back, but their backing is tougher so they will hold-up better. These are the reasons why many of the Mustang guys who S/C their cars use the Gatorback belts. I've replaced both the blower and serpentine standard ribbed belts on my Marauder w/the Gatorback ones. Below are two links to the Goodyear website. The first link descibes the Gatorback belts, and the second link will lead you to a cross reference feature where you can type in the part #'s on your standard belts abd hit the "search" button to find the Gatorback part # needed........

It was an odd failure, Billy. The tensionor (idler pulley on an aluminum bracket) actually bent in a compound angle. The first belt was replaced because it was rubbing after it was re-installed. I'm unsure if a better belt would have prevented the initial loss- maybe:confused: . A single spot of inboard fraying had been noticed prior to the run but was judged okay. A better belt may have kept on the pulleys but I didn't really understand the bent tensionor. Thoughts?
Team Ford fixed the bend with a tow strap and a stake hole in the trailer (quite ingenious).

I have very limited experience with superchargers. I have heard/seen of three instances where a pulley or pulley bearing failed on these three Marauders. In case your wondering all three vendors / types of S/C's were affected.

Here's the weird part, Brad- the tensionor bearing was sound- it spun like new- no binding- no chatter- no kidding. My supercharger experience is less than yours but I have physically seen an example of the failure you describe (the car formerly known as Logan's). This wasn't that.

Hey 2003 MIB, Thanks for your reply,I can only imagine the stress those components are under( anything that turns under load)Too Bad for Marty. I really don't feel that bad for him,Cause I know with his resourses he's gonna be Back with a vengence to show his stuff!!;)
Here's the weird part, Brad- the tensionor bearing was sound- it spun like new- no binding- no chatter- no kidding. My supercharger experience is less than yours but I have physically seen an example of the failure you describe (the car formerly known as Logan's). This wasn't that.

Dan:

Thanks for watching our backs. The gatorback belt suggested by Billy is great, but won't work in the eight-rib application that I have set up. We are running a lot of blower with a relatively narrow width pulley/belt combo. What we need is more tension on the belt, which will have to be provided by an additional tensioner that we are already working on.

When considering my options on this motor, you must bear in mind that the front end of my motor no longer fully resembles a stock Marauder and instead resembles a '99 Cobra set up, so things are a bit different. I believe that the tensioner that we are working on will resolve a lot of the belt issues that we are facing.

It was just amazing to me to watch them fix it with a little Cracker technology. The brainstorming was worthy of any boardroom I've ever seen. Those guys are fun to watch- even "Earl".

I must say this at this point: THey are great guys and amazing wrenches. I have become very good friends with them. I spent the day on Sunday hanging out at the track with Todd, Hell Boy, Jeff and Chris (a/k/a/ Earl, a/k/a Woddie). These are some fine folks to hang with and they are helping me to get Hell Boy to behave. Hmmmm, imagine Earl, er I mean Chris, teaching anyone manners....... :D

Billy, thanks for the links. As already explained, this won't help with Marty's issue, but I do intend to use them on my setup and the cross-reference links are appreciated.

Well...first I'd like to say it was GREAT to see everyone, and meet some new friends (Mark...you did us ALL proud!) Despite the concerns we had with Marty's car...it was a GREAT day! (that's what you get for final tuning the evening before an event where the car will be going down the strip for the first time)

Timing of everything just did not allow us to get any passes in preparation for the SSHS4....BUT, we DID make some passes yesterday at the 1/8 mile Southeastern Dragway...and the car performed rather well. We found some more "bugs", but made about a dozen or so passes. And BEST of ALL...Marty made 5-6 himself and is becoming more & more comfortable with this beast. There is no doubt this car will run 10s and with juice, probably low 10s.

Best part of yesterday was not only was Marty's car the hottest thing at the track...his "chase-car" was pretty cool too!

Thanks again for the good time from everyone! Watching Kathy get addicted, seeing marauderman have the time of his life, seeing my friend Paul Casey again, watching Glenn do so well...these are just some of the things that made the day much better than the 2 failed funs by Marty's car.

But...I MUST say...the BEST of all was watching that sweet, silver Trilogy car just womp-up in that C-class. Mark...you were FANTASTIC!!!!!!

You got that right...best burnouts the whole day.

Also...forgot to mention another great moment...Steve Bradshaw (Tranny expert @ T*am F*rd) smokin' a GTO (yeah they let under 3800# cars run all day as well) with his 7100 lb Ford Super Duty Diesel. I think it was Chis (a.k.a. "Earl") who said....

"Gawd...if I was in that GTO...and just got smoked by a 7,000 lb truck...I'd just keep drivin' right out the gate and go home!"

Brand, spankin' new GTO...Steve went 14.2 and that 4X4 launched like a bandit! He lost by just 2 tenths to a Impala SS as well...it was pretty funny.

GTOs ran 13.9 to 14.4...a Lightning ran 12.7...a Linc ran 9.79 (which I did not see, dang it)...a SS ran 10.2...everybody was talking about the GTOs...like 'thats a GTO'...'jelly bean with a 350'...there was nothing, I repeat nothing cool, neat or desirable about that car...I always thought I would like anything that would run good but the GTO proved me wrong...It in no stretch of the imagination can come close to having the commanding presence of a SS or MM...I really like the SS guys and their cars...I may buy one next year, BUT what someone did to that black and red one with the doors, stereo and such was just sickening...riced out to the max...what a waste of money...IMNSHO...OBTW if I remember correctly the big truck ran in the 13s....willie

There were two in attendance. A light blue one and a dark blue one. I saw the light blue make a 14.15 pass. The dark blue one's first pass puked a radiator hose and shut down the track for 30 minutes. I didn't see him run again. I've yet to see a 2005 version (6.0 not 5.7 and 400hp not 350) run but the 2004s were pretty quick. It's the looks though- I really thought it was a Grand Prix or Sunbird in the staging lanes until someone corrected me. Sad.

Congrats on the runs at the 1/8th mile with the Beast!

It looks and sounds like its all coming together....it'll be well worth the time.

On my win.....on that championship run against the SS from Ohio...all I can say is that I had my radio tuned to the tower....96.7FM. At the end of the track the reception isn't the best...but I did catch "2004 Mercury Marauder, You're Class C Champion!!!"...from the announcer...and I almost slammed the brakes on to get out and dance a jig :D

I didn't tell anyone but Tami this....I don't think....but those burnouts I did were interesting.

Every time I'd burn out...pull up to the line, do my run and hit the brakes at the end....I was getting burned rubber coming out of the headliner and A-pillars of the car...right into the cockpit. It was pretty amazing to see smoke rolling out from behind my Dual pod gauges after each run...!

Slicks next year and a 90mm MAF should drop me a few 10th's.

I'll be heading to a few get togethers next year...definitely!

Pics later today. Gotta get the g/f off to work and run a few errands.

Screensaver should be ready in a couple days....need to add a bunch of pics from this event and Tom gave me some from Marty's birthday party a few weeks ago.

That is kind of what I figured. I was hoping that you guys would get a chance for a testing session before the SSHS4 for this very reason, but hey, there will be other races, and everyone enjoyed themselves regardless.

Congrats to Mark in the C class, we are all proud of you. Glad to hear Kathy has been bitten by the 1320 bug.... Gotta watch it, it's addictive. Glad to hear Paul, Patrick, 2003 MIB, Fordnut, Willie, Glenn, Tom and everyone else had a good time. Thanks for watching our backs. The Gatorback belt suggested by Billy is great, but won't work in the eight-rib application that I have set up.
.
I don't know how that can be true Marty, because I have an 8 ribbed blower belt too, since that's also what the Trilogy S/Cer has, and I purchased a Gatorback 8 ribbed belt for my set-up. So unless there's something I'm missing, I still think you should use the second link I've provided in my previous post to type in the manufacture's part # for the blower belt you had on there and hit the search button so that it will tell you what the gatorback part # is. Obviously the tensioner being bent has nothing to do w/the belt as 2003MIB has indicated, but w/the kind of belt tension you'll be runnuing w/your set up, I'd strongly suggest the gatorback belts. otherwise you'll be going through blower belts pretty quick w/those standard belts. Furthermore, because of the better gripping capabilities of the Gatorback belts, you won't need to run as much tension on them to avoid slippage.

I don't want to derail the thread, Billy but since I've got your attention...Any idea what would make the tensionor bend? I could understand if something had seized but it didn't. I didn't ask a lot of questions at the shootout- the wrenches were busy fixing the car.

Perhaps there's some type of clearence issue w/an adjacent part. But since I've never even seen Marty's car since this extraordinary metamorphasis has taken place, I'm just guessing ofcourse.

Give it a few years....we'll give 'em some competition for the Big Dog.

Hellboy, once the tune and kinks are worked out, could be right up there....

I will add that there were some very nice Impalas at the shootout...very nice indeed. Especially for 8-10 year old cars.

I must say I thought you had the best burnouts. Should have won an award for them.

A Trilogy has to be in my future.

I don't think they were ready to give the best burnout award to a Ford product :D

Appreciate the congrats too!
