uhh NOT!!

don't know if any of you were holding off for the new GTO..(like my brother thought he was)..this link is pretty informative

http://ultimategto.com/scripts/showcar.cgi?type=show&pic=/2004/04_00095_1

some of the comments are quite entertaining.

340 HP and RWD sounds good but it holds Zero interest for me past that..and by the comments for many others....for the few faults the marauder may have they still did a great job on the balance of the project.....and a few mods seem to clear up its shortcomings anyhow...

hope all these people don't start showing up on the L/M dealers lots and wreck my "hold off for a little while longer" purchase price strategy

We may lose a few drag races to the GTO when it shows ..but it will be like many years ago when I lost an impromto drag to a cavailier Z24 or something in my old TR6...I was like..."oh yeah...you win!"

One good thing, though...at least there'll be another choice for a V8, RWD muscle-type car...and from personal experience, the Australians make some damn nice cars...I hope this "Americanised" version is as good as the Monaro it was cloned from...

Yes, you are right..and that is certainly a good thing. I was a bit harsh because I was just disappointed in the appearance.

Far to Celicaish/Civicish for me, but I am sure that it will eventually develop a much wider following, and probably be a much more commercially sucessful vehicle. The base vehicle is a great car, I guess I had just hoped for more "retro" influence in the styling..

What was the old saying "you can make fat thin, but ugly is ugly until the day it dies?"

No no no this is a good thing! Muscle sedans! OK it's not as good looking as it could be and I think they(GM) should bring the Commodore sedan over as the next Impala SS. There's a serious competition in Australia between Ford and Holden(GM) and their top sellers are sedans . Until the new Falcon GT comes out this year the Commodore was king. Near 400 hp 6 speed manual with brakes to match. The new Falcon GT has the 'Boss 290' which is a 5.4 DOHC with 290kw(387 HP!)

The performance numbers are impressive in a lead story, wonder what will be left after US. emission are complied with.

Can't say I'm that taken with it's appearance, it does feel...done.

I still say the 300A was a ballsy automotive move, hit us like a left hook that came up from the floor. What ever follows, will always follow.

Actually the Holdens are using the LS-1 from the Canmaro and Corvette

They sell(or sold-I was there in 2000) a model called the R8 '300'
which stands for 300kw(400 HP!) in a sedan the same size(actually the same chassis) as the Cadillac Catera

Expensive--but fast fast fast

to convert KW to HP---mutiply kw by 1&1/3

Don't forget, Mopar hits the street next year with the Magnum. RWD 4 door, with the new Hemi. I think the SSHSO 4 will be a VERY fun place to be.

I'm not impressed at all with that. It looks like an Accord coupe or something. But then again I'm a serious Ford fan.

I would actually like to see the GTO vs. the Kenny Brown Marauder. The GTO was the car I was holding out to buy until I saw the pictures of it. I love HP, but I now prefer comfort and roominess. At 6'6'', I don’t think I would fit well in the GTO. I had a hard enough time getting in and out of the drivers seat of the Trans Am and could not fit in the back! They might be faster, but were a lot more comfortable! And if you have a KB street rocket Marauder, they better watch out! :banana2:

When it was first announced almost a year ago it was called the return of the true American muscle car.

When they first announced this GTO, they gave hints that it would have some "retro" styling touches. Now they say it won't. They also announced it would have higher HP than it actually will.
I'm sure the timing of the announcement last year prior to the debut of the Marauder was simply to try to sway some Marauder sales.
I've also read that they are actually a long way yet from a production car, and the one on the car show circuit is still just essentially a mock up.

I've also heard that by the time it's 48 legal it will pushing more like 310HP and 335 lbs torque, a 3:23 gear and it won't show with the six speed.

If I was in the market for a fast coupe, I'd buy a Stang over the GTO anyday. I don't see the GTO competing with the MM -- apples and oranges.

You gotta learn how to crop pics man! ;)

Anyone else notice the rims aren't moving, but the background is?!?!

Bah, only 11:30pm. Gotta get up at 6:45am. I haven't been on the boards in over 24 hours (CD project, finally finish tonight!), and you guys flood the thing when I hit new posts, so takes me awhile to catch up and make sure everyone's behaiving! ;)

Hey I'll race any GTO that tries, just keep the sable away from me... jeez I loose one race to a Sable and I will never be able to live it down (on snow of course)

I agree, but General Motors original announcement of it being "the return of the American Muscle car" just before the Marauder debut sure made it sound like they were targeting the Marauder.

You just can't "crop" the Mighty Super Sable!!!

And, as far as the wheels...they're turning...just so super duper fast you can't see it....

I think I'm going to trade in for a REAL car....and get Joe Obelcz wife to teach me how to drive (wonder what she looks like...oh well...sorry)

Jefferson,

It might be faster but it's still ugly as sin. And I rather listen to the radio in the Marauder than the piston-slap in the GTO.
