View Full Version : A noise?
Hello all,
I've had my beautiful Silver Birch MM for almost two weeks now and have sometimes noticed a noise upon start up and several times after turning off the car. It sounds like a electronic air compressor coming from the area near the drivers front door. The noise only lasts a few seconds then disappears. Could this be related to the air suspension? I prefer not to take it to the dealer unless absolutely neccesary.
Thanks for looking and your replies!
air ride adjusting...perfectly normal.

I've heard the exact same thing on my new silver MM.

OK, how about if you think it *should* be inflating but doesn't, or does it at random times such as after you back out of the garage, when you pull in to park before cutting the engine, etc.?
I haven't gotten around to messing with the height (I'm one of those weirdos that likes it higher, not lower) but I have noticed this kinda erratic behavior from the air suspension lately.
Ideas?
Thanks,

I don't think it's an issue as to when it occurs, just as long as the occurence isn't too often such as dozens of times every day, and as long as it only lasts 5 or 10 seconds when it does occur. It obviously is activated by some type of height sensor, and sometimes your car can be parked on an uneven surface which can cause it to sit in a way that the height won't be detected right away until you drive the car down the street.

Whew! Thanks for the 411. I've only noticed it in and directly outside of the garage. So it must be the air suspension.:woohoo:

With 5 in the family, and a trunk full, the air ride compressor runs quite a bit:D

Its not normal . I had mine looked at for the same reason, and the dealership fixed it.

The compressor DOES make noise when adjusting, and IT IS normal. I don't know what your dealership fixed....but it sure wasn't the air ride compressor.
NCMM: You got the right answer from the first replys, and from some very knowledgable folks as well.

Welcome, Stuart...
I have to ask...What are you saying is not normal that the dealer fixed?
The on-board air compressor noise IS normal, and if you had this annoyance "repaired", I'm willing to bet that your air suspension just needed a tweak, and it's cool.
If you mean to say that you had smoke on startup and got that repaired, that's cool too...But, we would like to know more about that, eh?

You know it's strange but, I don't notice mine any more when when I start up the car?
I think you just get used to it:)
