View Full Version : Fuel tank shield

This isn't STRICTLY Marauder-related, but since we share the same platform as the Crown Vic, has anyone thought about the fuel tank shield retro-fit for the P71 that is on-going? I realise that the chance of a civilian car getting nailed at high speed from behind is much lower than that of a patrol vehicle, but the cost is apparently low ($106 from a posting on CVN) and installation fairly easy. With all the go-fast and cosmetic mods we do, maybe it's time for a safety mod?

Since there is a kit for the 2003 Vic, I'm a$$uming it'll fit the Marauder?

Thoughts?

Well yeah it'll fit the Marauder but it's not necessary(in my opinion-which does not reflect the opinion of this site or it's participants or the opinion or engineering conclusions or Ford Motor Co engineers). All it does is covers the shock brackets(which if you look from behind are actually outside the limits of the tank) and puts a rubber shield over the bottom of the diff cover. If you look under our cars there's barely enough room to slide yor hand between the exhaust and the tank or between the exhaust and the diff.
In an impact of that magnitude I think what's happening is the tank gets squashed(technical term I know) like a ripe tomato.

Now I suppose in a not so severe impact(or maybe off-center) it could help.

same class as the guy in the tank(remember him?)I'm so proud

honestly I just have a shred of common sense and know that the ONLY way to prevent fuel tank damage in such a high impact is to remove it completely. But after I wrote that I thought of how sue happy people are and didn't want Logan or anyone else to bear the responsibilty of my OPINION:argue:
