I thought some of you might find this interesting.

After installing courtesy lamps in the front doors and front footwells, I've been looking for something to illuminate the rear compartment.

Finally, I decided on some lamps just like these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2494414047&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT). They look pretty close to what Ford would have installed.

I used Ford OEM interior paint to match the chrome housing to the color of my interior.

Pictures and comments of the installation can be seen and read here. (http://www.supermotors.org/registry/vehicles/detail.php?id=588&s=21109#content)

Enjoy.

Thanks for the compliments, gentlemen.

Nice work on the install! Very clean!
You're right about the FoMoCo look - but I think I'd like something a little more rounded @ the corners & lower aspect ratio - wider and not as high, but that's just my taste!
Again, nice work & thanks for sharing!

I agree. I looked on the net, eBay, and parts stores for a couple weeks before settling on these.

Thank you for the compliments.

I've always thought of the courtesy light that comes on when the door is opened as more of a warning lamp, to show any oncoming cars where the end of the door is. If it was me, I would've put the lamp as far toward the rear of the door as possible.

Other than that, it's a very neat and professional looking job. Kudos on your workmanship!

Looks nice and well executed...don't sweat the naysayer....

Sorry I sound like a naysayer, I just put in my 2 cents and maybe somebody might go, "Hey, that's a good idea. Now that I think about it, seems all courtesy lights are like that. I'll do this guys mod and put it on the back of the door."

That's how we all improve. It's called progress. I hope folks will tell me when my idea could be improved. I'm a big boy now and want and can use constructive criticism.

OK, back to warm and fuzzy. Everybody's just perfect, especially you TAF. :D

Other than that, it's a very neat and professional looking job. Kudos on your workmanship!Originally, I planned to mount the courtesy lamps further back on the door. However, the lamps were completely obscured by the lower portion of the rear seat when the door was shut. Therefore, I had to mount them closer to the front of the door.

In addition, my main objective was to illuminate the interior when I am looking for something or entering/exiting the front seats. No one rides in the back seat.

Originally, I planned to mount the courtesy lamps further back on the door. However, the lamps were completely obscured by the lower portion of the rear seat when the door was shut. Therefore, I had to mount them closer to the front of the door.Yeah, I was thinking about that and saw that the only other option was above the seat and the door panel is curved there so the flat light you used wasn't going to work there.
In addition, my main objective was to illuminate the interior when I am looking for something or entering/exiting the front seats. No one rides in the back seat.I knew there had to be a good reason for the location you chose. Hope you didn't take offense to my comment, but why would you? You had already been thinking along those lines anyway! Again, good job man.

Maybe you can square things for me with 'poppa' TAF and let him know we aren't feuding after all! :D

We're cool David...my "naysayer" reference wasn't directed at you...but the rude and ill informed response that came "right off the bat" to this innovative mod.

If lights are what you want, those are nice.
Personally I think there is too much light in the Marauder when you open the door....

Nope, not yet. No excuse, I'm just lazy and my garage ain't heated. I did decide not to paint mine though -- there's already a whole lotta black in that interior and a little bit o' shiny stuff on the rear doors at that level will brighten it up.

I will add for the benefit of other folks that I checked out all the chain parts stores and spent a couple of hours going through a boneyard and these lamps will make the easiest and most sanitary install by far.
