Yesterday morning on the way to work I was rear ended at about 35 MPH while sitting at a stoplight. My 03 MM took a hell of a beating both front and rear. The lady driving was on medication and was out of it. I'm not the gold digging type, but I have to admit I'm very sore today. I always thought people who had neck pain were full of it, but now I know what they mean.

From my first inspection on the lift the damage is very deceiving. My trunk is bent my drivers side quarter has a pooch in it and the paint was chipped where the quarter and door hit one another. The impact was so hard that the gas tank and the frame had dings where they made contact. Everything on the back end is shot and the tail light panel and truck floor are bent. The car pulls hard to the right now and I pretty sure the frame has a diamond in it. The frame went back into position for the most part, but it will require a straightening. The front is in better shape. I am going to need a new bumper and all the parts that go under it. My first conservative estimate was $6600 with more to come after the car is torn down.

I'm now reminded why I bought this car. It is fun to drive, but it is also very safe and it took this accident like a champ.

Here are some pics of my car and the car that hit me.:(

Damn!

That truley sucks. Glad you are (basically) unscathed. Make sure YOU get yourself checked out as well. The Marauder may have hidden damage that only a body shop can find, and YOU may also have hidden damage only a Doctor could find. Don't wait, get yourself examined.

As far as the wreckage, wow, your MM sure bloodied the nose of that caddy and for all intents and purpose, shook it off quite nicely.

And the "gold digger" comment.....when I'm not either....but.....
If the rear trim plate that houses the backup lights (above the bumper and across the back of the trunk lid) needs replaced for say scratches or cracks, I sure would like to buy it from you before the body shop pitches it.:P

What a downer. I got rear-ended two weks ago by some ditz, but very minor damage. Still have a sore neck, though. Unfortunately, soft tissue damage is very hard to get financial compensation for; it's so hard to prove. That doesn't make it hurt any less, though.
Hope that you and the MM both get better real soon.

Yeah it sucks:mad:

Get your self to a Doctor...NOW!

Find a body shop your happy with and let them work their magic.

Keep us posted as to your progress and the Marauder:):)

You'd see a lot more damage if she was going 35 when she hit you, unless you were moving when the impact happened.

Glad that you are OK. Sorry to hear about your MM. :( Like BDJ said, you probably should get to a doctor to get checked to make sure all is alright.

Glad to hear that you weren't seriously injured. Very sorry to see what happened to your Marauder, though. :depress:

I know you're only thirty, but you must get an evaluation from a good clinician. Request a CT scan, of your noggin, at least. Cars can be fixed/replaced, but health wise, this could be a gift that keeps on giving. :shake:

From looking at the photos, apparently there was no airbag deployment, which seems incongruous with the amount of damage to the Caddy.

If nothing else, the Marauder is certainly a substantial car.

I agree, get thee to a doctor. the sooner the better.
I know they make cars crushable for crash impacts these days but sheesh! That Caddy is trashed. Marauder sacrificed
itself to protect you. A trusty steed you have there.:(

You'd see a lot more damage if she was going 35 when she hit you, unless you were moving when the impact happened. That is why I said the damage looks deceiving. My MM looks ok, but it has a ton of damage under the cover and to the rear structure.

I did make a doctors appointment to get a check up. The insurance company came by today and wrote a very fair estimate. USAA seems to be a good company to deal with so far.

I'll get some more pictures of the Marauder once it is torn down. It will show the carnage better.

Hope you are ok. Did the woman that hit you get pinched for a DUI? Thats as bad as alcohol, sometimes worse. I'm taking a script cough medicine for bronchitis and no way I would get behind the wheel with this stuff in me.

The picture doesn't really show all the damage very well. That part is almost $375 bucks. These Marauders aren't cheap to work on.:bigcry:

My exhaust is all bent up as well so I guess it is a good time to upgrade to the Kook's set-up. That is the upside.

klmore,
Suggest you wait before accepting the insurance company's money to fix the damage. Get the frame checked even if you have to pay that yourself.
If you or the body shop find FRAME damage, I would run like h...l away from that car regardless of how much you love it and TRY to get another one before they are completely gobbled up (sold).
There is such a thing as diminished value from an accident, but it is very hard to prove. However, since you know the Production Qtys by year, go armed for bear with the Ins Co and argue for fair and equitable treatment.
Good luck.

I guess I can save it for you, but it is pretty cracked up. The picture doesn't really show all the damage very well. OMG...please!!!

I can't afford to replace it either. I damaged a small pice of the trim that continues horizonally from just below the left tailight to under the left backup lamp. The fat 2x6 inch peice. I would have to buy the entire assy. to get this small piece.

We can work something out, thanks so much.

Exactly what I thought when first reading this post! Not to hi-jack, but check this out.

"OFFICER DIES IN BURNING CRUISER

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- An officer was killed when a pickup slammed into the rear of his parked police cruiser and it burst in flames. The cruiser model, a Ford Crown Victoria, has come under increasing criticism over its safety. Since 1983, at least 18 police officers have died in similar accidents.
Officer Christopher Sobieski, 39, died early Sunday as he parked on the shoulder of a highway watching for speeders and drunken drivers."

We should grieve the loss of this officer and all others who have died in the line of duty.
Officers, please don't park on the shoulder where drunks can run into you at high speed!

Now, does the MM have this same "burst into flames on rear impact" issue? Thank goodness klmore is ok!

It looks like the rear body took most of the hit. The frame pulled out great and all the damage is almost repaired. I was really thinking of trading for an 04, but after everything came out so well I'm glad I didn't. :)

Here is a pic that better describes what I need. I ONLY need the small trim piece that runs the entire length of the main rear trim panel assembly.

That is only piece on my panel that IS broke. I'll see if I can get a picture on Monday before I leave for vacation. If not I may know a guy locally who has one.

My body is also starting to feel better.:)

The guys are giving you good advice. To summarize, and add some:

1. Don't be in a hurry to settle the personal injury side of your claim.
2. Start looking now for a lawyer in your area that specializes in soft tissue personal injury. He will give you advice on what to do now to sustain your claim later.
3. If they total the car, negotiate to keep the salvage, and part it out to us guys on this site!
4. If it was bent bad and the Ins Co fixes the car, trade it in on another.

Good luck. This is not a fun deal.

Dang Barry, I need that same piece. I broke mine closing the trunk. It sucks that we have to by the whole dog gone package tray to get that one piece.
klmore, l would take Buckwheats advice on this one.

I edited that part. I don't intent to seek damages so it isn't that big of a deal. If someone was planning on that though your right. The lady who hit me was so hopped up on pills it would be an open and shut case.

I do know a good attorney in my area if I needed the help.:P
