I know we are all about SCs on this board BUT, has anyone tried a progressive system...after talking to some stang guys that have been running these systems for some time and running them hard I might add...I believe it to be a viable option to boost power...the way they explain it you can adjust the hp in steps and therefor reduce the shock to engine internals...some on this board are running as much as 470 rwhp...this means they are probably about 580 flywheel hp...our engines put out about 240 rwhp...if you were to add a progressive nitros that tops out at 250 shot this would equate to what the SCers are getting...I know filling up a bottle and how some feel this is cheating...save it please!...I don't care...just wondering if this progressive system is just as safe or unsafe as a SC...looks like the system can be had for some where around $1500 to $2000...the thing I like is driving to get groceries will be the same just power by a switch on demand if needed...I do not hammer my car very often and it seems for guys like me this system makes $ sense and common sense...comments...flames...wo uld love to hear from someone running this system if you is out thar...willie

Good topic.
There have been few threads regarding Nitrous. Several folks here are doing it in some fashion. I saw one today as a matter of fact.
I cannot give a good explaination to the pros and cons, but there are a few things that one must give up in order to run with N20. In my case, I would have to back off the super aggressive timing I use with the race fuel to avoid internal damage. In the long run, I may not get the performance I really want if I must give up some to get some.
I'll be watching this thread, because in the last few months I have seriously thought about adding a bottle since the S/C is not financially realistic for my family.

Dennis R. has a full wet Zex system that he will be testing soon.
He should have some good thoughts after doing so.
I have been interrested in this for a long time but wanted
to have his output first as to what our needs would be.

thanks for the replies...so Dennis what's the skinny on the Zex system? I do think there will be some demand from informed people who are not terrified of nitros...lots of 4.6s on the bottle with no issues out there...I believe with the right system and installed correctly nitros can be just as safe as SCing...the mustang guys have been doing this for a while...willie

About two weeks ago, Carfixer installed a New Ny-Trex Wet system for me. Of course, he did his usual professional install, as he always has done for any of my other mods..The system isn't the progressive style though..I have a arming switch, two LED lights on the a-pillar, one showing the system is getting nitrous, and the other for WOT. We started with the 75hp shot, and ran some tests with Claudes G-Tech...What we got was 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds, and 1/4 mile 13.5 seconds @ 103.4...We were both impressed with the difference it made..I'm very happy with the set up, of course i've already switched the jets to the 100hp..I'm anxious to see what happens at Bradenton on the 20th of this month..I'll post in the timeslip section after its over... Hope this helps

As long as the limo driver is not "on the bottle", the limo can be right? :drive:

75hp and 13.5...that is awesome...those are to say the least impressive...and do please tell us about the 100hp setup...I do not believe at these boost you would hurt your MM but wow that is some payoff IMNSHO...HP per buck has to be high...willie

Since Bootlegger is fessing up here I may as well. :cool4:
Hello my name is Klmore and I'm a Nitrous addict.....it started small and now I have a bottle a week habit. J/K
I'm running a 75 shot on a Zex wet kit. My install is almost all hidden the bottles sit where the spare goes and the controller is mounted under my PHP air box the only thing in view is the nozzle. I'm going to a 100 shot soon. I think I'm going to get a S/C set up in the near future and run a 50 shot on top, if I can find someone close to tune the thing. <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></v:path></v:shapetype>

Well i used to be a mustang guy myself and i know for a fact that the GTs (with the POS plastic intakes) could take a 100hp rear wheel (approx 125hp engine/flywheel) shot with very little danger to the engine itself. Anything over 150 was dangerous to the engine. The 01 Cobras (whose engines, are nearly identical to ours with the good metal intakes) could take up to about 175 or 200 before they started being dangerous to the system. These numbers were stated in an issue of MM&FF and they were said as being able to be bolted right up and used without a tune (personally i would still want one just to be on the safe side). Another reason why i would think a MM would be able to safely get as much, if not more, of a shot as the GT is in addition to having a metal intake, our CR is a lot higher than your typical GT and this bump in compression will help keep detonation at bay for a while, so long as you're smart. I had a friend shove a buck 25 shot on a 4 cyl civic, yea that lasted about a day.

hey question myself,
Does anyone know if NX makes a kit for the MMs? Because from back in the day when i was gonna get a kit for my GT there was the debate between NX and NOS and everyone said the NX kits were better, and then i inquired about ZEX and nobody knew anything about them, but if anyone could offer me any suggestions about kits that they have that they like i would appreciate it, cause i would love to get some, runnin the car just like it is now, then at the track pullin bad ass times outta my sleeve!!
sorry didn't mean to jack the thread:hijack:

sorry didn't mean to jack the thread:hijack: I know that Zex makes a kit for our cars, its model # 82023, and its a Wet kit. Also, Edlebrock has a dry kit for them, and produces around 80hp. I went with the Ny-Trex Wet because the system can handle up to 300hp, not that the car can, without some internal additions, and mods. Most of the kits are designed for smaller vehicles, ie: Mustangs, and ricers, you need at least 16 feet of braided line for our cars, usually the standard kits come with 14 feet..

Klmore has my original Zex kit I knew that bottle looked familiar!), since I went and upgraded mine to an NOS NOSzle system (100 - 300 hp), as it is a direct port system. This system is too much for a car that hasn't had it's internals built, and the Zex wet kits will work great for up to 125 hp on the stock motors. You'd be pushing your bottom end with anything higher, IMO.:banana2:
