When I ordered my winter tires I ordered the 2003 cop wheels,
3W7Z-1007-CA
with the center caps
3W7Z-1130-BA
And I thought it would be nice to have original Marauder valve stem caps with the mercury logo on it. This is the part I got from the FAQ
Valve stem and cap assembly - 3W3Z-1700-AA
Today they showed up, and the valve caps are just plain chromed. No logo, nothing. And they cost me $24.83 CDN, EACH. WTF!?

Logo on Caps is an URBAN LEGEND - never existed - no pics - nada - only some folks here say they saw them - kinda like ghosts.

Our MM's had plain chome valve caps when they were delivered. The price does sound a little high for valve caps though.

yup - somebody claimed they had them on their car and they got stolen - hence the URBAN LEGEND. No pics - no proof - all legend.

The only ones I've seen with logo's were the pilfer resistant caps from inovative interceptors.

Yes, one member here (I remember, but I won't out him) claimed he had a set from the factory, and they were stolen while the cart was at the dealership. No one ever saw another set, but we dogged it so much, another member, Wes Chain, put together a group buy. He'll probably do it again if enough speak up. His version is tamper resistant.

Yeah wesman,
At delivery , I noticed all the caps were missing.I asked the parts guy if he would get(order) me another set.He claimed "those aren't Ford parts they are aftermarket!"I politely replied "does'nt sound like my problem!"By the cost that you posted"It seems Ford is trying to re-coup the profit on parts that they did'nt make on the car!

Here is the retail price CDN $41.38 !!!
I got them at cost as part of the deal to buy my car from them.
The cop wheels cost me $99.99CDN , retail is 145.50 CDN
The wheel center covers cost me $60 CDN, retail is $88.35 CDN!

That price is for both the stem and the cap, and yes it is ridiculous.

Lost two of my caps the day I brought it home. They were simple, nut style, nickel plated caps. So I searched and found on e-bay a set of tamper-resistant spinner style caps with a Mercury logos for $9.95 a set.
I love 'em. It takes a small screw threaded into side hole to get 'em on or off.
And yes, the US manufacturers have taken a lesson from the Japanese that were selling those '70s Datsun B210s and Toyota Celicas at cost. Get a million of them on the road and then sock it to them on the parts! I saw a 35 cent vacuum check valve sell for $85 'cause it was for a GEO Prizm, which as everybody knows is just a Toyota with a Chevrolet emblem on it.

I had the black plastic caps on mine at delivery. :( I replaced them with chrome caps from the Auto Zone within the first day or two. I believe the L-M Parts department offers the "Hockey Stick" version of the caps. I'll check in the morning when my MM is in for her 15K check up. :D

C'mon, you know the reason that part is so expensive... it's because Prizm vacuum is entirely different: it sucks so much more.

Actually, that member was me. I did have them, but they didn't have a Merc logo, they had godheads on them. They were exactly like the caps on the show car that was here in Milwaukee in Jan of 02. My car was a very early build (April Sumthin 2002 if I remember correctly.) My suspicion is that they had only a small number of these things made and switched to plain-jane just using the protos in the front end of the run. I didn't even realize that they were special until I tried to replace them after they got stolen at Sam's Club. Believe it or not, I don't usually take pics of my valvestem caps...hehehe. I think it's pretty funny that so much energy still goes into this topic. I'm running black plastic ones now that cost like 45cents. Oh yeah, the super cheapo chrome ones I replaced them with also got stolen. It's amazing to me that anyone would chance significant free dental work for nothing more than a $2 set of caps....
Anyways, y'all can keep the strange urban legend debate going. I'll be willing to chime in on it once/year or so. In the meantime, I'm trying to track down the mythical E350 Extended Passenger Van with Limited Slip ! It seems like no one actually ever got this option factory on the darned things.

Hey RFO,
My old friend from the Ford Boards...
Some of us remember the words that came out of Steve's (or his henchmens') mouth(s) promising us a S/C'd "X-100" version of the MM wearing size 19 shoes.
I wonder who got the vert prototypes...?
Hehehe. It wouldn't suprise me if Sheriff stole my caps......hehehe...J/K Sheriff.....sorta....well....y ea.....hehehe....
Hope you have a great weekend, all you guys.

Oh no. All of a sudden I feel really old. :o
Oh, and TTA, I tried to put two vacuum pumps on a Prizm A/C and it still only pulled 30 in/hg. So even the cars' suck sucks. :D

Wesman, I was at my dealer's getting a 15,000 mile service and I checked with the parts department. Parts guy said the Marauder caps come as a valve and cap assembly and each was $25.06. No pics available: but he says he never recalls seeing any Mercury logos on any of the caps. But, I swear that I have seen them somewhere ... maybe in the Ford Racing catalog?? Hey, that reminds me ... I haven't even seen that catalog for months.

Heya Cruz,
I remember last Jan well...hehe. I think this year, I'm gonna swap my snows on earlier. Hopefully, that grease that I put on last time will keep them from binding on....
