View Full Version : 300A versus 300B?

I've been combing the site for info on what constitutes a 300A and a 300B. Before visiting this site, I had never heard of a 300B... problem is, neither has the dealer. He has NO idea what I'm talking about, and keeps referring to the 300A on his order form and that's all.

So, is 300B some sort of informal MM-owner's code for a differently-optioned MM or is it something I can actually refer to when dealing with Ford? If it is an official order code, can someone provide detailed differences between the two 'models'?

I want to make sure I don't send the guy on a wild goose chase, at least not without me being aware I'm sending him on a wild goose chase ("Stupid Dealer Tricks" by Dave Letterman?).

Steve,

The 300A is the early model with out Traction Control and with the full sized spare. The 300B, with traction control and "mini-spare" has replaced the A as the current model to order. Follow this link to the ordering guides and you can compare the two..

There are other differences, as shown in the guides, but if you are placing a new order it will be for a 300B...

Edit: I just noticed you are in Canada..that same link shows the Canadian Order guide so you should use it..

Wayne, thanks so much, that's the first official reference to the 300B I've seen thus far. And curiously enough, the Canadian guide provided still lists 300A. I haven't compared it with the US 300A, but I suspect that's why my dealer played dumb when I mentioned 300B.

Would be cool if I could get them to build a MM with heated seats and all the details of the first 'generation' MM (standalong clock, fuel release, big spare, standard CD changer, etc.).

Thanks again for helping me to clarify this confusion of mine...

I don't think you'll get them to "build" this car like that, as once a model change occurs, that's pretty much it.

It is 300A in Canada because there has only been one build in Canada.
The Canadian "300A" is similar in some respects to the US "300B" though i.e. it has traction control, available in Blue, etc.

TTA, 300A & 300B refer to equipment packages in the sales catalogs.

Our cars are Mercury Grand Marquis with package 300A or 300B which makes it a Marauder

although looking at my window sticker it doesn't actually say Grand Marquis on it anywhere but says 'Marauder' in 4 places:o

My point is that the Canadian 300As seem to be slightly different in content than the US 300As. What I meant was, I'd be happy if the current Canadian 300A still offered some of the items that have since disappeared from the US 300B.

No big whoop, though... I'd be happy with just traction control and the heated seats. The CD changer I'm not desperate for. Same for the moonroof (2 of my cars already have t-tops). The separate clock and the remote fuel door release are just little items that give it that little personal luxury touch, and since I'm looking at this car as a bit of a luxury treat, they would be kind of nice. The uplevel stereo is a must... I hope they don't take that away.

So, in the end, if I'm paying that much for a muscle sedan, I'd like to have a few GM/Lincoln-like touches if I could.

TripleTransAm: I Understand where you come from as far as the extra little things go. As for heated seats I had them put in aftermarket here in the States. (Pa.) They were not in production models when I got mine 9/28/02. I know after spending all that money when you buy a car you do not feel like diging into the old pocket any more.
