View Full Version : Dead pedal and seat noise issue?
 New guy hear again...hopefully this hasn't been asked 10,000 times before. I noticed a few people mention having a dead pedal installed. Is there a company making these for the MM or are they being pulled from other cars? Also, has anyone had any issues with their driver seat making noise. As I mentioned in an earlier post I just bought the car a week ago, but the only concern I had when I purchased it was what can only be described as a "squecky" seat. Sounds like old matress springs. Visually there is no obvious damage to the seat and I have tried WD40 on the hinges and underneath on a couple attach points. I'm fairly self-conscious of it. When I've taken people out for test rides I make sure the tunes are cranked up just enough to hide it. I have an appointment at my local Ford dealership on Tuesday, but was curious if anyone else has ran into this.

Mard, IMO use LPS Lubricant instead of WD-40 on the hinges and like, it might solve your seat noise issue :)

Yes I ran into it, I sprayed lubricant under the seat and that solved the problem, its exactly the metal springs under the seat, under the leather and foam, the dealer should be able to fix it as well but I did not have the time to take it in....

True Kenny Brown makes a dead pedal....very pricey though.
Other folks also went the fabricate route and hit the local boneyards. I have one from an old Mazda RX-7. $3 at the boneyard, and with Ladyhawkes MM pedal covers, you'd never know.:D

Mard, do a search using squeaky seat. The first result is "squeaky seat driving me up wall." Click this result. Then go to the March 13, 2004 post by Lnytuns. This post includes a photo from where the squeak is most likely coming. It is the area where a bolt is rubbing against the seat frame. If this is the area, you can follow Lnytuns advice. You can also try to wedge a small piece of cardboard between the seat frame and the bolt. Good luck.
BlueMarauder I checked that previous post and that may be the problem. There's significant contact between the large hinge bolt and the outer frame rail; good chunk of metal been worn away. The passenger side doesn't squeak at this time, but when I check that side it appeared a little contact had been made. Nothing compared to the driver side. I have an appointment tomorrow evening with the local dealership and I'll point it out to them. Thanks.
I took my car into the dealership yesterday and they said my squeaky seat is a result of a broken weld on my lower seat support. Service manager said that it will take a week before they receive the part and at least 2 hours repair time. Anyone heard of this problem?

Did you remove some of the lower leather trim on the seat to inspect the bolt touching the frame? You may also want to sit in the seat and rock from side to side. If you hear the squeak rocking side to side, it may the bolt against the frame.
I did see the bolt riding the frame rail. I pointed it out to the service manager and they said that info would be relayed to the mechanic. Maybe I'll buy a new metal file and hack away before they reschedule the installation. I did try a few days ago and the only file I could fine small enough was worthless. I guess I should have spoke up again and questioned the bolt before leaving the service department.

Mard, I read your response about the metal file not working. Try to wedge a piece of cardboard--or a shim--between the bolt and frame. If this works, you know the cause of the squeak.
I took BlueMarauders advise and headed back down to the garage. I wedge a screw driver between the bolt and outer frame rail and lightly pried down until I had about an .05-.10 gap.
No squeak driving the car this morning  . Very nice!!!
Not sure what to tell the dealership since they think it a broken weld and ordered a new lower seat support.
Should I go ahead and let them take apart what appears to be a perfectly good seat  ?

I haven't had the seat issue yet, but I did bid on Ebay for a Dead Pedal from a 2003 Cobra Mustang. Unfortunately I was beat out, but I am keeping my eye out for another. If you look through some of the threads I think you will find other references to another dealer on the web, but again they are expensive.

Give it a few days to see if the noise come back. The dealer can always send the part back. IMO I would change it.

Hello Mard, glad to hear the advice worked. I would not recommend having the dealer change the part unless the noise comes back. (Assuming you are under warranty for awhile, you can always change the part later during the warranty period). Changing the part may cause another problem--you never know.
