View Full Version : Why does this car do this?

Under WOT the car pulls nice, as I let off slow, the car goes faster and faster until I reach a certian point. Am I choking in the intake side, exhaust or fuel delivery (the fuel filter mod I've read about?)

Thanks

The intake plumbing on this motor is one of the lowest-restriction systems Ford has ever put on a car...it should not be a choke-point IF one or more of the following are not the cause:

Air filter clogged, damaged, or mis-installed (that one's already happened to someone here); airbox inlet obstructed; MAF screen obstructed; other physical damage to the intake tract (the black bellows)...

The exhaust likewise shouldn't cause a problem as you describe unless one or more of the cats is clogged, muffler defective, or part of the exhaust pipe inner wall is collapsed (that one happened to ME, though not on this car).

The fuel filter also generally should not cause that condition unless you're going WOT with ¼-tank or less, or going uphill when you do it. Then doing the FG-800A upgrade would be beneficial.

This is a new car with only 700 miles. All plumming looks good. Matter of fact, out of curiosity, I popped the air box cover off and looked inside. The filter is new but there is no MAF screen. I did notice the great big opening where the MAF is and the little odd shaped hole where the air comes in... Not only would removing that little snorkle help (done that on other cars) but I'd have to dremel the front of the box to get enough air in the box. I think I saw something about that here somewhere.

Let the Mods begin: I changed the oil to Mobil 1 Synthetic and removed that anoying vibrating POS insulation by the sub woofer the lazy bastard from the assembly line forgot. Thanks to you guys here for that, I would have thought the sub was bad.

Before I put the blower on, I always thought the car was faster at 3/4-7/8 throttle.
You are not imagining it.

Could be fuel regulator or tps switch, I suppose.

I hadn't thought of that! I still think in simple car terms. Would the dealer fix this? I'll probably just wait for the tune and get it done then.

Thanks guys

Defyant....

It was explained to me by SCT that the TC lock/unlock is throttle dependant and what you and I are experiencing is the TC UNLOCKING when you back out of the throttle a bit!!! :mad2: I other words, if you stay at WOT the TC stays locked....back out and it unlocks. Watch your tach when it happens?? :(

The best way to stop this is to program the TC to stay unlocked always or drop back to a program like Lidio's where it only locks in 4th. Then turn the OD off (back to 3rd) and floor it with TC unlocked.....This is what I have to do to get full power at WOT now.

The whole thing has to do with :censor: government fuel economy requirements!!! :mad2:
