OK,
As you may know, my blue marauder was stolen using the key, so the PATS was not defeated. Due to the stupidity of the thief, they got pulled over and arrested 9 days later and I got my car back in mostly good shape. However, I’m not going to let this happen again. :mad2:

So, what are the GPS-tracking, vehicle disabling systems that you know about? Of course Lo-Jack is the big name, most well known system, but I’d like to know what are my other options. Intertrack was mentioned in another thread, and I understand that one of the best vendors on this board is looking into offering another GPS tracking security system (cough – Mr. Reinhart – cough).

Let me know what systems you have seen or have installed. Here’s the features I think I want:

• Tracking the vehicle in real-time on the internet.
• Disabling the starter/fuel pump through the internet or a phone call.
• Hidden, permanent installation with additional power source separate from vehicle battery
• Minimal or no monthly fees (<$5), or fees only when used
• System cost of less than $750

I appreciate the help.

A LoJack system requires a LoJack receiver to find your car (assuming they're not tied up on some other call or something). This uses the cellular network nationwide (which means it works where the car is stolen in a jurisdiction without LoJack receivers). About the same price, but far more reliable. Yes - there's one in my car. If it gets stolen, I can turn off the starter. If it's running, it won't stop it (so no accidents if the car suddenly quits), but once it stops it can't be started again. That might've been nice for your car, so that it stayed where it first stopped, whether or not the thief had the key. And you can always find your car via the internet.

Most NYC Poilce vehicles have the Lojack tracking system installed and the same goes for Nassau and Suffolk counties. I beleive Lojack will also install some type of alarm system.
The only negative about a system that cuts off is that real car thieves use flatbeds. IMO LoJack is the way to go.

Anyone got a connection for buying lojack at a lower price?

I have looked at a few systems and I think the one N40GL (Mark) is using is up and coming:up:

Of course if they use a flatbed then your back to square one:mad:

Vehicle tracking

Many vehicle security products claim to prevent theft but we all know someone who had one of these types of products only to loose their car anyway. With Inilex, you can rest assured because you will be notified, where ever you are, if your vehicle is stolen and you will be able to immediately start tracking its location and provide valuable information to the police to aid in its recovery. Along with security we have incorporated a plethora of convenience items such as excessive speed notification, violation of predetermined geographic boundaries, just imagine the control you will have on your teenage driver. Ever want to start you car on a cold or hot day to get the inside at a comfortable temperature before taking off? Now you can, just access you car via phone, web, or PDA and convenience is at your fingertips

i was never able to find any real info on the actual product on that inilex site.

i was at a carmax today trying to get them to give us a value on the girlfriends old car. they had a lojack brochure so i asked about it. Retail price is $795, carmax price $650... but they wont install it for you unless you buy the car from them.

we had been planning to go to carmax today for the last few days since she just bought my old car because I am getting the MM. anyway so today the day we go to get her car appraised we go outside and a damn tree limb fell on her car overnight smashed the windshield and dented the right front fender. How's that for luck...we still took it to them for the appraisal it's not even worth the insurance claim.

I checked out that site. Like hdwrench said, not too much info there.

How much for the system and monthly monitoring?

I heard OnStar 'fined' people for speeding a while back. :bs:

Guys, I have had lojack installed in 2 of my previous cars (before being a LEO), and now after several years working in work cars equipped with lojack locaters (enough to know they are not worth it) I will tell you to not waste your money. First of all, very few cars a department has are lojack equipped. The company only allots a certain number to be installed per department. Out of 250 patrol cars at the Dept. I work for only the canine cars and approx. 15 others are lojack equipped. And I work for a 500 man/women Dept.

Now lets talk how it works. Your car gets stolen, you call the police and lojack. Lojack activites a very small transmitter in your car that is only picked up for short distances. I a lojack locater LEO car comes nearby the locater will beep, a code number shows up, and arrows indicate the direction of the vehicle. So if the unit starts beeping you head in the arrows direction. Dispatch will contact lojack, give them the number that has appeared, told to them by you, and they will tell you which make and model to look for. Do you have any idea how hard it is to drive and locate a particular car by arrows? Once in a while one is found. More often than not the car goes out of range. Much easier to find it if it is stationary. The older units were prone to beep all the time if you drove by a store with an automatic door or who knows what....... The things used to beep so much, false readings, I would turn mine off as soon as I entered the car. Lojack may have corrected this problem. I have heard newer units are more accurate, but the guys who have them will tell you what they really are. A dealership add on money maker.

I can tell you that the cars equipped with onstar or like systems by GPS tell LEO's exactly where the car is, direction its going, how fast. LEO's get them everytime unless they flee, in which case it's your property and not the cities so they are let go.
Don't waste your cash on Lojack.

This company uses dealers to install their system, scroll down the page here
and you'll see this caddy dealer offers their tracking system.

The Aegis tracking system at Trackmenow that I recommended above does all this, and has a real-time demo on the screen you can fool around with.

I've heard from some very disreputable people that they will not steal a car equipped with an Ungo Box.

http://www.clarioncanada.com/english/product/index.php?category=ungo

You kinda don't need the rest if your car is always where you left it.

Also practice pro-active security. I know the easiest way to steal my car is when I'm at work, and the car is at home. Just break into my home, and the keys are right beside the front door, the car is in the driveway. In theory, at least. ;)

I had a couple keys made that fit the car, but are not PATS compatible. They are Mercury keys, on a Mercury keychain sitting with a bunch of other keys beside the front door, but will not start the Marauder. The real keys are in a safe location elsewhere in the house . . .

Ahhhh! Part 2 of my security! I bought the biggest steel dog dish I could find, and roughed it up with an angle grinder and assorted heavy tools. In the dish is the whole upper leg bone of a cow, partially gnawed, cracked and sitting on my deck beside the patio door.

Do I have a dog that big? C'mon - Take a chance!

But, yes, I do have a big dog ;) She's a big pookie, but she sure sounds mean!

Viper offers one as an add-on to their 791 alarm/remote starter. In addition to GPS locator it also has OnStar-like assistance as well as real-time data logging such as how fast the car was going where and when.

My neighbor had a poodle.
It was 3' 6" at the shoulder, and when it kissed you...
