I am the proud new owner of a Black 03 MM with 14000 miles. I am wondering what type of fuel mileage I can expect with a 4.10 or 4.30 gear swap. Also if anyone can recommend a good shop in the Knoxville, TN area I would be grateful.
Thank you I love the forum.

Welcome!

From what I understand,.. 4:10 gears only add 200 RPMs at 70 MPH.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I have 4.10s along with lots of other mods and usually get about 20 mpg.

You in K-town? I'm in Lenoir City, let me know and maybe we can get together. For mods, I go to Team Ford in Marietta, just outside Atlanta. It's worth the drive for the work to be done right the first time at a reasonable price. I had some stuff done locally and every time I had to take the car back at least once to get them to re-do or finish getting the job done right.

I believe the accepted figure is approx 325 RPM @ 70 MPH, but either way it's a minimal difference...

We just got back from a New England mini-meet and got 21.2 MPG at a steady 75 MPH over 180 miles...like Bradley G said, we lost about 1 MPG avg. with the 4.10s.

Back in the day.... 4:10's and chip only consistantly yielded 22.5 MPH on long highway cruises. With my current setup I never get better than 20.5 MPG.

On other words not much of a loss in MPG department.

On the way to MVI I had 4 Maruaders with chip & 4:10 gears following me for 3 days and everytime we re-fuled I took only a gallon or two less:):):) (I am stock)

Go ahead and make the gear swap.

I knew it was somewhere in that neighborhood.

Thanks RF

Have 4.10s now for a couple of days, so can't comment on the gas mileage, although considering all the posts I've seen, and the objective numbers for RPM, a mile or so per gallon sounds reasonable. About the shops for doing work to your MM, I would highly recommend a road trip to Team Ford in Marietta, GA for your serious work. The guys there are fluent in Marauder. Well worth your time, and you'll probably meet other owners while you're here. Watch the Southern Marauder thread for info for our next breakfast (usually 3rd Saturday of each month) and come on down. I'm a newcomer, but was given a friendly welcome and learned a lot from "seasoned" owners. Welcome to our site.

Depending on the tuning you should not see much of any drop in gas milage with 4:10 gears and it realy wakes the car up.

When is a good time to get the gears and custom tune? I was thinking after 1000 miles or so since the car is new.

Well its up to you you can get a good tune or even a chip or tuner now and with milage the car should gain some power with millage, the AF normally does not change that much

Like it's already been stated, there's merely a 325-350 RPM difference at 70 MPH while in OverDrive. I experienced a decrease in gas mileage of 2MPG by going from the stock 3.55 ratio to the 4.10 ratio. I also experienced another 2 MPG reduction in gas mileage by going from the 4.10 ratio to the 4.56 ratio.

Thanks everyone, I shouldn't have posted right before a holiday. This is the first chance I have had to reply. To Fordnut I live between Lenoir City and Kingston and I may have seen your MM at the DQ in L-city about a week before I got mine. Maybe after the holidays we could get together and BS at least.

I have 4.10 gears in the Stage I kit. I lost about 2 MPG on the road, getting about 20.5 Mpg from 23 MPG. I get about 13MPG arounf town which is about the same. The around town performance is much better. Most of my driving is around town. The 4.10 gears really light up the accelaration around town adn seem much easier on the car.
