I don't seem to be able to get more than 16 mpg

Last fill-up I went 254 miles on 16 gallons.

Any thoughts on ways to improve or is this as good as it gets.... my driving is an even split of highway and local. Mostly 30 miles a day.

With 5000 miles on mine I get a constant 17 with 1/2 city and 1/2
highway.

IMO Your mileage is consistant with your type of driving.

I agree. I have 7200 miles on my '04 MM w/ DR's 4.10s and SCT program. I get 18.2 mpg with mixed highway/street, but then I don't push it a lot especially since I got the $275 speeding ticket in Maryland on I-95.

Yes, please do. I was hoping that when I pick one up to be at least in the low-20's for mpg with 90% highway driving. That could hurt. Might just have to keep the Accord around to put miles on, too. 30mpg in a 12 year old car with 270,000 miles on it is still nice...

About the same but a bit more in-town driving.

My mileage is closer to 22-23 mpg on the highway and 18-19 mpg around town. I have only been using 93 Octane in my '03.

I have 1700 miles on my new '04 and have consistently been between 19 and 20 on all tanks and I drive a mix of highway and urban. I'm satisfied. I'm not a real lead foot...............yet.

My '04 has 6K miles and it's my every day driver. I get about 18 MPG around town which is about 300 miles/tank. I've taken a few road trips with 100% highway driving and got 400 miles to a tank with 21.5 to 23 MPG. Oddly enough the 23 MPG trip included a run of between 105 to 120 MPH for over 10 miles. Seems it runs better over 100 than at 80 to 85:P

Kramer:

You don't say where you're from...California, maybe? It seems people from that great left coast state get much worse mileage than most of the rest of us...I just got 21.2 on a 180-mile trip at a steady 75 MPH...

My 04 is getting anywhere from 18 -22 mpg depending on driving habits.

Best mileage was a trip from CA to Canada. Drained 2 tanks driving all highway on I-5 going about 70-75 mph and no WOT...got about 24 mpg.

I am in Maryland.

I should be able to expect between 17 and 22....I am at 16.

I realize this is close, but factory city/highway is 17/22 so I should be in that range...right?

I use 93 and I am not a leadfoot.

:) We have 2800 miles on the car in three months. In town, 15-17 MPG. On the open highway, no a/c, cruise set at 70 we get around 25mpg. On one stretch, trying to hold it to 65mph, got an honest 26mpg. Guess you figured out that our's will be a good used car one day.:)

You got 254 miles on 16 gallons? That's 15.88 MPG. If you have a stock MM, your mileage should be closer to the sticker numbers. Some guys with serious mods and 4.10s are getting numbers close or better. You might need a check tune or change gas stations just to confirm that 93 stuff you have been buying. :D

Remember we bought these cars as muscle cars, otherwise I would've bought a honda or gran prix or some other generic car.

My mileage stinks but I think thats cuz I'm a lead foot, have a chip and 4.10's.
But I'm having a blast.

I have an "04" I bought last June, 11,600 now, the best I've done (before I put in Lidios' tune in March 05), 18-20 combined and 24.2 on Cruze (75-85) going to the U.P. which was straight highway driving for 300 miles, 1 stop for coffee. Even with the gas prices going the way they are the grin factor as you have people look to see what kind of car you're driving is worth it.

I get about 18 in the city, mostly city freeways. My best tank was 24 on a trip from Detroit to Memphis. Light traffic and flat terrain, cruise control set at 82 MPH.

damnit, you guys have gas sippers.

My 00 Vic w/ 3.55s gets 15.6 mpg max in 100% city (SE MI commuting) and a max of 21 mpg on 100% highway between Detroit and NJ.

I started using dino 80W-90 gear oil as an interim fill before I re-do the rear end... and noticed the gas mileage dropping like a brick.

What are you guys using for gear oil?

FordNut

I average 19.5 mpg, 4.10 gears, lots of engine mods, generally cruise 85+

I've got an 04 with about 15,000 on it. I was getting about 20 to 21 mpg until I got my Lidio chip, and now (and I may be nuts) I'm getting closer to 24.

 Have an '03 with 18K and only drive about 14 miles a day during the week and average about 17-18 mpg around town, but on the highway on trips I average about 23-24 mpg with a high of 25. No major complaints for an eight cylinder fun machine!

I get around 16 in town, too. (I live in VA near DC). It gets more on the highway, but its hard to tell when you are usually going >80 and not driving at consistent speeds.

So where on 95 did you get your ticket? I need to know where to be careful next time I go to Atlantic City.

You should check out the local Capital Area Marauder (CAM) group. We just had a meet on 9 April. You are located in a prime area for some fun and good times with fellow Marauder owners. Check for meets in the Northeast Forums.

On I95 in Aberdeen MD last Fall. It was a construction zone then, and I was doing 80 in a 55. Now its back to 65. Went to court and the Judge reduced it to $75+driver improvment program (cost $50). I go to AC a lot too, and always stay about 7 mph max. over limit on rt 40 in NJ. Never got a ticket there.

I have a (very lucky) eleven mile commute to work each way with a breakdown of seven miles urban freeway, four miles city. The traffic on the freeway occasionally lets me open it up to three digit speeds. I get about 270 miles on the odometer when the fuel light comes on. Works out to high 16's or low 17's mpg with a 16 gallon max. fillup. So, given the driving conditions and the speeds I'm fond of, I'm happy with 17mpg. I recently increased my tire pressures to 40 psi all around due to the wear factor, not sure if this helped mpg or not. My last car got the same mileage, had MUCH less power, and was no fun at all.
No complaints here.
