View Full Version : Underbody Security Lighting Part #

Ray (TheDealer) was kind enough to get me the part number for the Underbody Security Lighting. Frdwrnch was kind enough to track down the 2 remaining dealers that had the part. I have made contact and arranged for payment of the part ... but ...
I need the part number again so that when I send the check to the dealership I can include the part number as part of the purchase order. I have since misplaced said part number. Yeesh.
I know this is a holiday weekend. Normally I'd just PM Ray again but I need to get this order turned around 1st thing tomorrow morning. So I thought I'd increase my chances and post openly hoping for the soonest reply.

What is the part for?

It's lighting that goes under the body right at the driver and passenger front doors. When you unlock the car with the fob or open a door, they light up.
I liked the idea and got to see it on Donny's car in Atlanta and decided to get it. I knew it was discontinued but didn't realize there was only 2 left in the channel until I inquired yesterday.

Last two kits ehh?
I assume you mean in the country? Or just at Ray's shop?
I looked at those back when it was first mentioned. I suppose there is an easy way to rig up tube lights to the wire for the interior lights just the same, but OEM is really nice.
Is Tod planning on selling these extra kits? Or is Marty just ribbing him again?

Funny,
This was something I remember seeing posted WAAAAY back that I told myself I'd want to do when I got a MM.
Oddly enough I did NOT snatch any of these up at the time ... as I often do with things that may not be around forever - something for something that I KNOW I will eventually have - etc etc(a packrat is what a packrat does ya' know :P ).
So here it is yesterday(Fri) @ 5:20 PM & I see this post about how FEW there are of these.
Now I'm ANXIOUS.
Knowing I was pretty much SOL calling any of the dealers on the East Coast till Monday ... I tried all the dealers out west that Ray listed, that would have still been open.
North Hills LM in TX had already sold theirs. I got thru to both John Wiese Ford in MN as well as Country Ford in OK.
I snatched up not one - but BOTH(hey - what if the wife ever wants a MM or my set up should get damaged ?).
Like I REALLY needed to spend $167.20 x 2 PLUS shipping & handling.
Eric < --- makes note to hide these from the wife when they get here

Thank you in advance. I had my car up on the lift Friday, but didn't think to snap off any pics.
So, I went out and rolled by fat arse on the ground and snapped these off of the passenger side light:

This is the mounting plate under the door sill, sorry about my fugly face. I include this to show how well made the bracket and hardware is, and hot it looks practically new even after running on my car since April '04 as a daily driver, parked outside.
http://www.mercurygallery.net/mmnet/data/500/1136DSC01466.JPG
The backet curves around to hold the lamp assembly, which is angled slightly to point the light out under the door instead of directly down at the ground. The lens is colored white and has a diffuser pattern. A rubber seal surrounds the lens to keep water out.

Back in January, 2004, I started the first thread on underbody security lights. The thread was a dud, too, only a couple of replies. I had found usl's on a Ford dealer's web site (forgot which one, and I didn't identify the dealer in the thread), and, at the time, they were in stock, available, and that particular Ford dealer would install them (parts and labor) for $162.50. My selling dealer didn't have them in stock, so I asked Ray (The Dealer) about them, what they would cost, install price, etc. Ray ordered in a set even before I actually gave him the order, though he did have to pay a higher price to another dealer because by that time they had been obsoleted in the parts system. It was that set provided by Ray and installed over at Team that caught Todd's attention.
Anywho, in that original post I put up a pic from the Ford web site that showed the usl's on a crown vic:
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=20 97
This is a bit misleading, because the light in the pic is not exacly diffused over as large an area in reality. Still, this was something you could get on 2003 models as a DIO on F-150's, Expeditions, CV's etc.

Anybody who has installed (or watched somebody else install) the underbody lights, can you tell me is there already a hole in the frame rail to run the wire pigtail from the lights under the car up into the interior or do I have to drill my own hole? The instructions seem to indicate that there is a pre-existing hole around the front of the rocker panel but I didn't see it when I made a cursory inspection. So, before I really start crawling around under there looking for something I'd like to know if the thing I'm looking for even exists (kinda like hunting for Bigfoot). Otherwise I'll just drill away. Anybody know?

What he said. I'm still waiting. I found a set of lights that will work. I'd like to hook them up professional looking.
Thanks alot,

Oh man, my techno-ignorance has caught up with me. I don't have a scanner, I don't have a digital camera, I am unworthy! :(
But I do have the instructions. So, the best I can so is to snail mail them to someone (just send 'em back) who does have the capacity to post them on this site -- or Marty's-- for the benefit of others. Sorry guys and gals, but what do you expect -- I just got indoor plumbing.

I'll do a PDF file tomorrow...it's really long though, like 10 pages.
This site doesn't support .pdf uploads, so I will have to email it to you.
Will you please email me a set of these PDF's too?
Thanks,
David

I have a copy of the manual scanned into a PDF file (zipped). I have posted it on one of my company sites but cannot promise it will stay up there forever. Get it while you can.

Good job Bruteforce....I have no idea what happened, but I lost track of this thread and failed to get that file up.:depress:
Thanks for picking up the slack. The file looks great!

Bruteforce, thanks a lot. I could not figure out how they were keeping the lights from coming on more than needed. Now I see it.
Thanks again, it came out great and fast.

You're welcome. While scanning this, it occurred to me this was probably that thing you couldn't remember you wanted to ask me during your last visit. ;)

Never mind. Answered my own question now that I've jacked it up and gotten under there with a light. There's not one but two holes (at least on the passenger side which is all I've looked at so far) already there with watertight soft rubber plugs installed from the factory. The holes are in the floor pan. When you pull the door sill up to peel back the carpet the hole is about even with the forwardmost guide hole that that door sill was sitting in. Hole's about as big as a quarter, easy to find. And double check that once you mount it that the bracket for the light isn't rubbing against the fuel line on the passenger side. I can see big-time disaster happening if the installer was sloppy.

Of you lucky few who were able to get the lighting kit would you please take a look when you have time and get me the part numbers for the two relays?
I would really appreciate it. I'm making my own home made set and have not been able to find one for the ignition.
Thanks a lot,

I am not sure which numbers are important, but here is what is on the relays:
BOSCH
12V 20/30A
0 332 209 150
088141
P2
Hope that helps.
