I finally got my K&N kit delivered last week. I was the R&D car that they used to design the kit. I put it on over the weekend. The install was a breeze.

My first impression was that it made noise more than it did anything else. Not that I am complaining. It is a beautiful sound. I decided to wait and get a fews days of driving in before I posted my thoughts here so I could provide as much info as possible.

Now that I have about 400 miles on the kit, I must say that there is a decent performance gain. I have the most improvement once I am up to speed and I drop down a gear or two to pass. I have over 41,000 miles on my car and this is the first performance mod that I have made so I have a pretty good feel for how my car performs. I was a little suprised the other day while jumging on the toll road as I got up to and beyond 80 mph rather quickly.

Problem is, now I have the itch to do more.

Yes, someone please explain what the FIPK kit it all about.

I am planning on buying 63-1111 and having Lidio do the install as I am not mechanically inclined.

Thanks, John

Like I have always said, "Resistance to modding is futile". You have been assimilated, welcome to the Collective. :D

Glad to hear you are happy with the set-up. I would also like to see some pics.

Is it like this one I have on my MM?

Slim, do you notice gains in performance like Dailydriver has? I have been waiting for this kit to come out so I can hear some reports of comparisons between this and the JLT kit. What is the part number?

EDIT: I checked the K&N website and this part is not yet listed for the MM. Guess it will take them awhile to get the site updated.

With this mod and a tweak of my chip I was able to gain roughly 10hp. Is there a noticable difference, I have notice that it seems a little more responsive. There were five dyno runs before and five dyno runs after the install. The K&N really only gained about 5-6hp. I will say that it sounds great at WOT. Here is the thread with the dyno results and more on my car. http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14133&highlight=k%26n

I really like these set ups, but I do have concerns. I would like to see some sort of enclosure for the conical filter on these cars. Water runs into the engine compartment right where the filter is. I know because I keep a "check the oil" rag wedged between the air box and the washer bottle. After it rains, the rag is soaked. I will probably get another air box to modify for better air flow.

It is the same kit as Big Slim. When I got the car back from K&N the reported to me that my car was making 245 RWHP, which was a 10-12 increase over stock. I have no dyno sheets to back this up. I am simply reporting what they told me and my "seat of the pants" feel.

Not doing mods on the MM is like not putting chrome thingees on your motorcycle.

YIKES!!!! I took the part number and called K&N, and they told me that the kit costs $399.99!!!!! I told him that I already had a big conical K&N filter, and asked if he would sell a kit without the filter, and he said no. Guess I won't be buying one of these. Slim, did you pay this much for your kit? :depress:

I think people have been able to get it for closer to $250, still not cheap, but better than the $399

The JLT kit is even cheaper than the $250.00. I can't believe there would be any performance difference between the K&N & JLT kits...... Why pay for the name???

Hey Ross, these K&N kits can be bought for around $ 260.00. Check around!

Buying the JLT also helps support a small biz rather than a big faceless corp. ;)

 But K&N has years of experience in this field.
Myself, I will go with experience over small biz! :coolman:

I installed a K&N filter charger on my Mustang. Got it off of ebay for $25. The JLT kit on my Marauder is just as high quality and looks better.

For $130 you can't beat JLT IMO.

Yeah, It would... If they made that style for our cars, (without the cheezy K&N Logo). Besides, if the plastic one is $260 on the low end- the bling is going to have the horsepower per dollar scale on full tilt. ie $350+ for 10hp? thanks but no thanks.

Hey Todd is that a reflection off the intake tube or are those actual carbon fiber coyle covers? Very nice by the way.
