View Full Version : I got a ride in a Ford GT!!!

Yesterday, someone that I recently met who just purchased a Ford GT gave me a ride in it. And what a ride it was. WOW!!! I took some pics. But I'll have to figure out how to get them on here since the files are too big. But what a car!!!! During the ride he took it up this long straight hill. We were going along at 30 MPH in third gear, and he punched it for about 5 or 6 seconds and then let off the go pedal, looked at me, and said.."Well, that was 120(mph)"

That car is crazy fast, and negotiates turns effortlessly!! We went flying through this "S" turn so fast that I thought the car would wipe out, but it took it w/out even any problem, and w/out even pushing me from one side of the seat to the other. It was actually amazing how easily the car handled it. I drove four hours to his house just to get a ride in the car, and I don't regret doing that at all.

Awesome! You have just realized a dream of mine! Way cool!
I'll never afford one, but would never turn down a ride! :D
I have the superbowl commercial and still get goosepimply when I hear it roar.
Glad you enjoyed it!

yeah, I was also hoping the guy would offer to let me get behind the wheel, but I wasn't really expecting that since I just met the guy, and he was being pretty nice simply offering me a ride in the car. So I was in no position to ask him that either. but i felt fortunate just being able to get a ride in that car. How often to us average guys get a chance to ride in a $200K vehicle?

here are some pics that i took, and are the only ones that I've managed to get on this site due to limiting restrictions on file sizes......the car is dark blue, but the pics make it look black.....and ofcourse that's my Marauder sitting next to it. I asked the guy if he wanted to trade cars, but for some reason he declined.

Billy beautiful photos. And, not that your car doesn't look bad ass next to the GT, but think of whole cool NavChap's striped MM would look next to it!

So, did this guy agree to adopt you? I would offer to sleep in that garage!

A,B Normal, of course!

Billy, you're a hell of a guy. Last weekend, damn near breaking 11's in a heads up with Jet, now this. You're on a streak. I suggest you go and buy a lottery ticket, and hope you win the supercharger contest, just to keep the streak going.:D

I just realized that if I added up the cost of all the cars I've bought since 1960, I just might crack the 200K figure, excluding repairs, maintenance, etc.

And, if it weren't for the recent 03 TBird and 04 Lincoln LS purchases, I wouldn't even be close!!

Unreal.

Cheapest car: 54 Chev. Paid $1 (car wouldn't move; motor would just race.) Put $7 into it (universal joint had sheared). Car ran fine. $8 total cost. Plates/registration cost more.

Most expensive: 2003 Tbird: $39,000 with tax.

Hey, Billy, what's the car next to it, the one with "37" on the side? :)

From the looks of his deluxe shade tree and surroundings, I'd say you have a new "best friend" worth knowing. :D

That looks like some type of of race Mustang he has in the garage next to his GT.

wow, I didn't realize what a short car the GT is.Yep, and that's one of the reasons why I took some pics w/my car next to the GT. So that everyone can get a good idea of the actual demensions of the GT as compared to our Marauders...

Yes Todd, I was pretty determined to get a ride in one of these, and I'm so glad that I finally did. The next step is to get to drive one, but that's a much taller order, and I dunno if I'll ever actually get to do that. it's something that I hope for, but I won't count on it. As far as how it sounded to be in the car while it's being flogged, I must say that it's amazingly quiet just as some of the magazine articles have stated. I mean, the engine is right there sitting next to you so close, that if it weren't for that piece of plexiglass in front of it, you would be able to literally turn and reach behind you, and touch the supercharger.

But even when he stomped on the go pedal, I barely heard the enegine at all. Infact, the one thing I think that i'd do to the car if I was ever fortunate enough to own one, is to see if I could have headers made for the thing, along w/some free flowing mufflers to bring out that nice 5.4L engine sound a little more. And another thing also, is that just like w/my car, the supercharger on the GT can barely be heard. I kinda like that too.

That car is just so smooth. Ford did a really nice job. It's power delivery and acceleration seem so effortless. The car get's up to 120MPH in a heartbeat, and it doesn't even feel like it's moving that fast. You don't even realize how fast you're moving until you look at the speedometer. There's a sticker inside the doorjam that instructs you what to set the tire pressures at for driving over 150MPH! Anyone who says anything negative about the Ford GT must not have ever had a ride in one. The car is no joke! It's a car that means business, and i consider myself very fortunate to have had a ride in one....

LOL....that's really funny Marty, because that's exactly what I said to the GT owner....."Can you please adopt me?...I'll be happy to live right here in your garage, and I'll wash the GT every week for you." ...

Did you take him for a ride in your burnout machine? Wesman, nope, I didn't. he made a couple positive comments about my Marauder, and he asked me what ET's I had accomplished w/it the day before, but other than that, we were too busy talking about his gorgeous car, and i was perfectly content w/doing that. And besides that, he literally had people lining up to get a ride in it. I kid you not. When we pulled into the driveway after the hair raising ride he gave me, there were three people in his driveway all waiting for a ride in it!!!!...

Hey, Billy, what's the car next to it, the one with "37" on the side? :)

From the looks of his deluxe shade tree and surroundings, I'd say you have a new "best friend" worth knowing. :D Mike, this guy (Jim is his name) is a great guy, and I'm glad that I got to know him, which was through another board. He owns his own race team which includes him and his son as drivers, along w/mechanics too. he races at a number of tracks including the one at Watkins Glen, NY. I don't know much about circle track, nor about road course tracks, but that's what him and his son are into, and that car sitting next to the GT in his elaborate garage, is one of the two cars they race. It's a Cobra. He had the Supercharged cobra enngine sitting on the floor on the other side of the GT, and he's going to be getting a 5.0 Cammer engine to throw in that car. When it comes to Ford cars, Jim seems to have it all. The only thing that I didn't see there is a Lightning.

That is bad to the one. I was also curious about the race Mustang sitting there? SCCA? Grand Am Cup?

I was also curious about the pallet in the first photo. it looks like a box of produce. Potatoes? Tomatoes? Watermelons? I am in the produce machinery packing bsuiness and I am curiuos who this might be?

Just curious,

LOL...U guys are asking some very probing questions. I can tell you're really curious as to who this man is. I don't want to reveal too much about him since I want to show respect for his privacy. He was very generous and kind to agree to give me a ride in his fantastic car, and I don't want to make him regret doing that. I already gave some clues to his identity in my previous posts, so if you really care to dig, then perhaps you can figure out the rest. Jim seems to be a somewhat private person, and I can respect that. The only other thing that I will tell you, is that I did infact head west to drive out to see him, and he said that he's in the "grocery" biz.

This guy is a total Ford NUT, and I don't say that in a negative way. Every vehicle he owns is nothing but Ford, and he's known by his friends and family as a Ford guy, and nothing else as far as cars and trucks go. Infact he's so much of a Ford enthuisiast, that most of his cars are Blue. BTW, he looks to be in his late 50's or perhaps even early 60's. That's all I'll reveal about him.

That ride must have been fun.

I was at my local Ford dealer (Team Ford, Las Vegas) for the quarterly warranty issues and an oil change. They had a red GT in the showroom. WOW, what a beauty in real life. That see-thru rear deck showing the engine is awsome.

The guy at the enterprise rental desk told me the dealer had sold two GT's over the internet for $300K+ each. Then he handed me the keys to my loaner, a Focus ZX. What a letdown.

If you want one you better hurry.

No wonder it holds the twisties so well. The CG is only about 3 inches off the ground. The Ford GT video was impressive; but to see it in person ... WOW !!!! Still haven't seen one around these parts yet.

The chance of my seeing/riding in a Ford GT are about the same as seeing/riding in a Lockheed-Martin F-22 Raptor!!
