I've got a problem. I'm putting on the PI rims for my snows. My mechanic tells me that there are two types of centre caps. A PI part and a Taxi part. Well, apparently they are about 99% identical except for the tabs on the back. However, the Police one is $80 and the Taxi one is $30. I took the car by to take a look, the nuts for the centre caps work perfectly with the Police ones but the taxi ones don't. Ford tells them that there is no other nut package. Anyway, I don't want to pay $80 for mini hub caps, heck I don't want to pay $30, but I thought I would post the part nums I have and see if any one out there has an affordable combo. These rims are the '04 PI rims.
F8AZ-1012-AA - These are the nuts for both apparently
3W7Z-1130-BA - This is the part num for the PI centre cap
F87Z-1130-GB - This is the part num for the Taxi centre cap. It don't fit:mad2:

So how does one use the Taxi hub caps if the nuts won't fit? How do Taxis do it?

Try, 3L2Z-1130-DA These are Mountaineer centter caps with a Flying "M" in black. You still need the F8AZ-1130-AA to attach them. I think these look best. I sell them for $22.05ea. RAY

The nuts fit, its the hub caps that don't fit. The tabs are very slightly different and they won't snap in. I believe the Ford dealer doesn't know what the hell is going on.
TheDealer, do you know any one in canada that sells them? If not, do you ship to canada?

I understood you said the nuts didn't fit with the taxi caps? Did I misread?
Edit: okay, it's the taxi cap doesn't fit. so is there a specific wheel that Taxis use?

The F87Z 1130 GB are for the 1998 - 2002 fleet / police steel rims, which have a very different face than the 03 - 04 steel wheels. 3W7Z 1130 BA are the only ones listed for 03 - 04, sounds like your parts guy was trying to improvise unsuccessfully.

Thanks for clearing that up, Ed. Sounds to me like Ford or your dealer are trying to gouge the market with those post-03 caps... $80 versus $30. Have they begun constructing them out of some aeronautical-grade material to justify this price?

Ray is right on. I used to be over at CrownVic.Net a lot and they use the same setup. If you want pictures and can't wait for Ray to post head over there an do a search.

Looks sharp... it has this early 70s look to it.
I think this was discussed elsewhere but I don't recall there being an answer... has anyone successfully used these Ford caps on the Tire Rack's custom wheel?

Hey Ray, do they really have a gold accent or is it just the pictures?
I believe someone is checking these on the TireRack rims and we should know by Monday. I have the same concern.

That's correct. I sent 3 different samples to Greg Piper. He held them up to his wheel and said they look like they will work and liked the look. He is going to change the lug nuts and try them over the weekend. Should have an answer on Monday. RAY

They don't have a gold tint. Must just be the picture. They are kinda like a siver satin finish.

Hey Ed, is that you from SCCoA?
This is Jon from Virginia with the 93 SC. I now have a brand new '04 red Marauder too!

Nope, must be another guy named Ed from Canada with an SC. ;) :D
You'll be wanting to get rid of the Bird, Jon, after driving the Marauder for a while. Congrats.

I think the question was for the DTD package, not TireRack - but as Ray said, we should know Monday. (I thought we bought those Unique brand from DTD - or are they the same company, or am I on crack?)
I'm in for a set if they fit - it's exactly the look I am wanting now. As long as people won't get the :censor: out of my way on the highway anyway I might as well look the part!
Anyway, it's fun to watch people going 90 get up to my rear quarter and lock 'em up.

Ed,
I don't know which way to turn these days. Do I work on Marauder mods or TBird mods. It's a real dilemma.
Regards, Jon
I hope you have a great Christmas. Hope to see you at Carlisle next Summer.

If someone purchased those Mercury centercaps, please post a pic. I am interested to see what they look like on a Marauder.
The F87Z-1130-GB centercaps are typically called Type 170s. I've currently got a set, along with some trim rings, on the Vic.
