View Full Version : Car got Keyed...

Today Jessica took Linda in to work to pick up the Christmas bonus check, went out to eat, and shop at Walmart. When they got to Walmart there was a lady pushing her cart to her car, which was on the 1st row close to the door.

The parking was angled in each direction, so the traffic coming at you would have to park on your left. The car Jessica was waiting for was on her right.

Jessica waited for the woman to load her shopping bags into her car. Once she closed the trunk, another woman who was large enough to make Big dog look skinny stops and turns on her blinker. Jessica pulls in the spot, and the woman (who is at least 40 years old) calls jessica a biznach.

Jessica tells her she has a todler and her mother who JUST got out of surgey in the car, and calls her a biznach back. The woman takes off and they forget about it thinking it's over.

WRONG! From there they went to Jessicas Biological dads house because it's her sisters birthday (I met them there) They didn't see the scraches till we were leaving Rainer's house (where it was under a street light). She keyed the driver door and the hood. :mad2:

As soon as we got home, I dialed 911 and had the operator transfer me to a non emergency line, and had Linda and Jess tell her the Paul Harvey (Readers Digest Version). A little later we got a call from the Lacey PD where they told the whole story. We have the case number.

Jessica is going to call the Walmart tommorow. She worked there for a while, and her husband MAtt used to work loss prevention for Walmart up here, so there is a chance they might have it on tape. I sure hope so, I'd rather have the perp pay than have my insurance company pay.

That sucks! I hope you find the woman and charge her extra for emotional distress.

Good luck :)

Man that really stinks !!! :( Hope you are able to track it down or have witnesses. Seems this crap happens alot during the holiday season crush at the shopping areas. Normally, I'd rather park in the back and walk rather than wait and "fight" over a parking space. Of course, that probably was not a good option because of the surgery situation.

That and the grand baby. Normaly I park out away from the door too for door ding prevention..

Check the parking lot for security camaras. If there are some maybe they pull the video and get her tape.

Thats what we're hoping for. Matt used to work loss prevention, setting up the cameras and such. EVERY corner of the roof has at least 3 camera's and Jess parked close.

Teamrope, I was going to suggest the surveillence tape review, but it looks like you have it covered. Personally, if I suspect I have angered someone on the road I ALWAYS document their plate and time of day, just in case. Its kinda like when a telemarketer calls, you have to be cordial otherwise they end up calling you at 3am talking smack about your momma.

I always park far far far from the doorway from any establishment. When I have my better half with me I drop her off at the door and then go park, as I dont expect her to walk that far due to my anal retentiveness.

Some guys like to take up two stalls to prevent door dings, however this breeds "key jobs" due to ***** envy makes these idiots lash out in a jealous rage. You just cant win though, I recently parked at the farthest possible stall from the Cascade Mall and some nutless wonder parked his Dodge dually right next to me, leaving several other empty stalls vacant. To lessen the chances of door dings I always park in an end stall when available. Good luck, its a felony crime, I'd like to see her burn for it.

I'm usually like that too, but it was my daughter driving. She knows the car is special, but she is more focused on getting the grandbaby out of the weather as soon as possable, and not having Mama walk to far.

On a briter note, we'll have to get a meet going in Jan or Feb. I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Don't wait too long on asking about the tape. Some of those are on a loop and could be re taped over. Depending on the type of system they use there is a pretty good chance it was caught. However, you now have the problem of identifying the suspect. Best of luck and if you do catch the person, prosecute.

Yes, especially if you get called a biznach by the other party. Get their license plate number!

Good luck Team. I hope that tape is good.

Back in 'Nam, the US Navy had trained bottle nose dolphins to detect enemy frog-men, go nose into and carry a CO2 fed hypodermic spike cartridge and go spear the guy, triggering the cartridge and filling the guys intestines up with CO2 so they came out his mouth and a$$, killing him and making him float for positive identification! :D

I was just thinking, since the technology exists, maybe Wal-Mart could put those crows to some good use.

Nahhh.

Just a commentary on taking two spots - not a response to TR.

Don't take two spots in a crowded lot. It pisses people off -- like me. It has nothing to do with jealous rage. It has to do with everyone following the same rules - even rich people.

Unless of course it's one of those lots that has really narrow stalls and there is almost no way to take up one stall and still be able to open your door next to the other cars. Or you are parking far from the door.

I don't care how big a car you/we have. We only get one. H2s included. Otherwise you're asking for it. I know some people that go after those double parked cars in the lots. They park their POS pickup so close to the driver's door it's impossible to get in from that side.

Sure, some people can't drive or park. Don't park next to 'em - problem solved.

Take 4 spots if you like - park sideways - but do it way out in the corner of the lot where no one wants to park anyway.

That really sucks! I'm paranoid about parking lots. I've got a bad back so when we go shopping where ever...I drop SWMBO off at the door and take off for the far reaches of the lot. Then I don't have to go in or worry about granny and idiot teenagers or flying shopping carts!!:mad2: BTW, I heard that Sedan DeVille's now come with braile speedometers.

Most people just don't give a crap about their own cars, much less anyone elses.

BJ,

Sorry to hear about this. It just keeps on coming, doesn't it?

This sort of thing should be the least of your worries right now but leave it to a merry Walmart shopper to put a little more on your plate. I hope they caught her on tape so she foots the bill and gets slapped on the hand for spreading her X-mas cheer. Good luck.

I can relate. My Vic was keyed on the driver's door on Christmas Eve 3 years ago when I was at work, trying to finish up for the holidays. :mad2:

I hope you find what you need in the vids. You know, without getting all metaphysical, our lives are made up of our choices in life. Our choices reflect and parody our character. I hope this person is caught before more damage is inflicted on innocent motorists. She'll get what she deserves. No doubt.

Hang in there Teamrope, and good luck with this loon.

They gotta have the incident on tape. Wal-Mart has more security cameras mounted on the front of the building than they know what to do with.

That truly sucks and I hope the person gets caught.

Thanks for the well wishes and helpful advice. Also thanks for some laughs. That's what I love about our online community.:)

Update: I had already had a service scheduled at the dealer to change the oil, trany fluid and filter and install the cooler t-stat and plugs. As I was dropping the car off, the estimator from the shop that does all of the paint and body work for my dealer (same shop that did the grill and Badge less hinny on Mrs. TRs MM) was there to do an estimate on another car, so the service department had him do an estimate for me too. (Talk about service!)

When Jessica called Wal-Mart, Lacey PD had already contacted them, and they were getting the tape. :bows:

Total damage $1225. I have a $500 deductible. If she isn't caught I'm not sure if I want to make a claim on my insurance, or just foot the bill for the whole thing. In the end, the insurance company will only raise my rates if they get involved.

TR/Mrs TR/Daughter TR: Condolences from the Chaplain, and a couple of thoughts. We get spoiled parking on base because people have designated spaces, there are protocols for the way we do things, etc. No one would ever key a Senior NCO or Field Grade Officer car.

But the lack of self discipline and the utter absence of common sense outside the gate is just devastating. Do people really think that other folks go out and get surgery, park in particular places, etc. as a result of having stayed up all night brainstorming ways to make other folks miserable?

It reminds me of the sidebar conversation that Vincent Vega has with Jules in Pulp Fiction about what type of person is lowest on the food chain. The one who keys someone elses car.

Hope all works out for the best. Foremost for Linda's recovery. Second, thanks to "the big boss" that nothing happened to any of the three precious folks in the car. Shudder to think about the way road rage takes over peoples lives. Very Respectfully, -kjs-

Thanks Padre,

I've read in the good book that in the end times, each generation will be more wicked than the last. It seems as time goes by more people forget the golden rule. Eventually, they disregard even more rules. These people tend to confuse others not bending to their will with disrespect.

Just surprises me that she was older than me and Linda and still acted as she did. I would expect that kind of behavior from a teen, twenty something or even younger thirties at the lower end of the economic scale.

It does seem to be a small blessing that the guy from the collision center was there this morning when I dropped the car off. One less headache taken care of without me having to do any leg work. :)

Not long after I bought the MM in July of 2002 we had a garage sale. Some one keyed the MM on the side-it wasn't that deep but obvious it was done on purpose. I figured it'd happen again so I didn't get it fixed. Sure enough a few months later wife took kids to the park and saw a few teenagers looking at the car and they keyed the hood with lots of swirls but again they weren't that deep. We filed a police report and took car to the dealer. They charged me about $100 to buff out the scratches. Since then we haven't had another key incident. Can't figure out why people throw trash out their car so I know I'll never figure out why people key cars.

Well said. It's just plain old jealousy. You have nice things and they only have $#!++y things. They can't stand it. I am probably the only one that owns a refigerator that was keyed while we were busy purchasing it. It was done on the inside where it was not noticed untill after it was delivered. Vendor said sale was as-is, so they lost a customer.
