Here's a brief explanation of the background on our MM drive shaft issue. The writer is Jerry W, the designer of our 4R70W transmission, and the discussion is more about the Lincoln FN-10 frame. However, the basic theories Jerry shares with us apply to the MM. It's good reading, even though is about another car.

Excellent read Mac, I wonder how much of the Lincoln chassis weakness directly applies to our mounts.

Good read, but there are those who will say the laws of physics do not apply to their vehicle.
I was sold on the MMX shaft after I had the 4:10 installed and drove another MM w/out 4:10 that had the MMX, the difference in vibration, which I never noticed until I dorve the MM w/ the MMX was significant! :)

Javier, I think the general theories apply to all cars, but the T-bird, and by default I'm assuming the Mark VIII, has uni-body construction, as opposed to the full-frame construction of the Panther platform, so I would think the numbers would be a bit different.

Let me get this straight: my Mountain Dew is 2 litres, and your Honda is 1.8?!

Your killing me Bob.

The vibration comes from the pluses transmitted by both the gear sets in the tranny and rear end, flexing the driveshaft. Change the diameter, length or material of the shaft and the critical speed will be different.
Imagine shaking a rope and seeing waves formed. This is what happens to the driveshaft as it approaches citical speed, just not enough amplitude to see them.
One more piece of info, Ford does not offer 3.08 RAR on the Panthers. They are annoying at normal speeds like 60mph. The rear sounds like is hummimg. Just part of the harmonics of our cars.
