Just saw that Crutchfield has 3 rockford fosgate 6.75" type subwoofers on their website. I see alot of people talking about replacing the sub, this might be a good alternative to making modifications to fit a bigger sub. That is if you like rockford fosgates!!

might not be a good idea being that the sub in the MM has its' own enclosure and is made to work in that volume. a better speaker in a not recommended enclosure volume can sound like azs. tinny if too small volume and muddy in a volume too big with decrease in power handling. need to know the internal volume of the MM enclosure. sure would like to know the feedback if someone tries to replace the sub. i replaced the 6x8 all around with kenwood 3 way kfc-6808 and made a huge improvement. check your sub for the foam. i heard my sub and thought it was just ****ty til i removed the 1" foam padding left in. remove your driver's side rear speaker grill by simply pulling up. reach in towards the center under the carpeted shelf til you feel the 6.75" opening. if you feel the foam, try to pinch it with your fingers and pull out. now my sub pounds and keeps up with the kenwoods.

I had the foam still there and removed it and was amazed how better it sounded. I'm going to change speakers for sure. Not sure which to get right now(kenwood, alpine, infinity,et c) decisions.decisions!! It was a fyu for the people considering changing sub. Thanks for the info.

erbm, when replacing the 6x8s in the doors be careful of midrange/tweeter height and location. in specific, the dash actually blocks the front part of the speaker when the doors are closed. make sure to place the tweeter (in a 3 way speaker) towards the rear of the door to get the sonic efficiency. also watch the tweeter height. try to get poly cones for the doors versus treated paper fiber. i used the same speakers front and rear for good imaging.
