I went shopping today, I picked up a B&M supercooler and an Autometer Tranny temp guage. All of this is in preperation for the TC R&R. I found a shop here in Vegas that will do it for 175, thats a hell of a lot better than 550-600 for the same procedure in Santa Barbara. So, I got all the parts , high stall/tq TC , aux tran cooler, the tran temp guage and the shop to do it. Im going to tap the stock tran pan right next to the output line so i get the best readings possible and the guage is going in the center pod and im moving the lighter. How important is the J-mod and can any trans shop do this?

LV, I notice in your sig that you have a Superchips tuner...usually the J-mod is done if you DON'T have a chip or PCM flash...I'd be interested to hear if anyone has done both...but, yes, any competent transmission shop should be able to handle it easily...hell, you can do it at home; it only needs ordinary hand tools...

Also, just a tip about the trans temp gauge...Autometer recommends installing it in the output line to the cooler, and makes a nifty "manifold" p/n 2287 (http://hp.autometer.com/products/accessories/temperature_manifold/temperature_manifold.html) just for that purpose...it's supposed to give the most accurate readings...save the drilling and tapping for installing a drain plug...you'll be glad you did the NEXT time you change the ATF...

Hey LV how long you back in town for? I have done the J-mod on my 300B, Susan's 300A, Travis's 1998 CVPI, and 3 other CVPI's (2 2001's,and a 2003). Out of all of them, Susan's is the neck-snapper, yet all three were done the exact same way and diameter holes. Her's was always a little firmer shifting when stock anyway, and her's is the only 300A I have done. Ask Dave C what he thinks about it. I love the change. The shifts are firm, quick and you get a 2nd gear scratch when at the redline. I have the set of instructions that were posted on here awhile back. Any half way competent trans guy should be able to follow it.

$175 sounds way too cheap for a TC install! Who's doing the work? This is not something you want to skimp on. I paid $350 to a custom shop. I also had a stage 2 "trans-go" shift kit installed. I'll take you for a ride you will love it.

175 was insane, I was going to gowith them but after talking to some local shops the one I had lined up had a bad rep, so F that. especially with dealing with something as important and sensitive as the trans. As of now I have first gear trans over at LVMS ready to do it wensday of next week.I defenietly want to take a ride in either yours or jims, ill give one of u guys a call tomorrow.

I paid $550 for a Stallion TC install and a full Kooks setup install (including headers of course) but I got a great deal...took 1 day and 2 hours the next AM.

Do not drill the stock tranny pan...if you're that worried about cooling the tranny...call Dennis Reinhart and order a deep tranny pan. Have that one drilled. Cooling fins and much more capacity. Just my opinion of course.

I am planning on doing just this !
I ordered the 2287 Manifold locally for $44 flat. Got it last Friday.
Ordered the Autometer Oil Press, Volt Meter and, Trans Temp over Ebay for $150 flat.
My Trans Temp Gauge is going to go where the Cig Lighter is,
and the socket for the Cig Ligher socket is going to go inside the storage compartment
to replace the socket there, because that socket doesn't provide a very good connection to ANYTHING !!!

Now all I need is a shielded wire to run from the gauge pod to the transmission line,
to connect the temp sensor to the gauge...

Anyone know where I can get this ???
And anyone know the easiest route from the tranny to the interior,
short of following the shifter cable ??

Dude, why do you need shielded wire?

Dude, why do you need shielded wire?

Things MOVE under there, ya know...
Last thing I need is to have the wire rub the insulation off of it.

I could secure the wire out of the way, but I'd feel better if it was shielded.
