I have been looking for a blue Marauder. Yesterday my wife and I took a ride to all the Lincoln Mercury dealers in the Charlotte area. None of them were open, but we were able to walk their lots. Out of the 3 dealers we visited, there was only 1 Marauder, a black one with 2,200 miles on it.

This morning I started calling other dealers that are within a 50 mile radius. 4 dealers - no blue Marauders. The first one I called, I spoke to the new car sales manager. He informed me that the Marauder only comes in black. I told him that they had been selling blue ones since December. He told me I was wrong and Mercury has no intentions of ever making this car in any other color except black. I asked him if he wanted me to email him pictures of a blue one. He said "that won't be necessary". I hung up.

The next dealer told me that they only come in black, but that Mercury might make a blue one and a white one sometime in 2004.

Sad that dealers are so ignorant about their product!

Sad state of affairs. Seems you could go to a reputable dealer and they could search for one.

The dealers that knew that there were blue ones offered to search for one if I was willing to order it sight unseen. We want to see one in person before we order. We may wait until this summer when the red and silver colors are available.

DOK- believe me, if you leave your name with a few dealers in your area and tell them you want a blue Marauder, they'll search high and low for one for you. You should have seen the commotion it caused when I went looking for my Crown Vic Sport last March! Salesmen are desperate to sell cars. ;) BTW...My salesman was very knowlegeable about the car, but just like in your case, I knew more about the car I was looking for than he did.

I had breakfast 2 weeks go with a guy in Charlotte who just took delivery on a blue one (see photo gallery for pics). He's listed here as mrmark. Why don't you send him a message and ask where he got his in CLT.

dok,

I got the same response at the Houston car show. I asked the guy standing next to the Maruader if they had a blue one. He told me they only come in Black. I corrected him, just as a youg women came up from LM and told him the same thing. I told him it was sad that his customers knew more about the products than he did. the women looked at him and he walked away. She them went into great details about the colors comeing up and also took alot of note when I voiced my opinions about the car, Performance, OIL GAGE. ect. It was a breath of fresh air.

I have been in contact with Marauderman here in Charlotte and he even emailed me some pictures of Mark's car. I just didn't know his ID or how to get in touch with him.

Thanks for the info.

I just called another dealer. "They don't make a blue one." :argue:

If you "build your own car" on www.Mercuryvehicles.com, they don't give a color option except black. They will offer two interior shades-charcoal and light flint.

No moonroof, yet, but heated seats are an option.

Saw a blue Crown Vic on a lot with light flint interior, not buckets.

If that's the blue they intend to offer on the Marauder, black is much sharper.

Can't figure out why they don't offer a parchment interior, unless they didn't like the look of the silver interior trim with a light tan interior.

The Ford of Canada site has the two colours listed.

Don't waste the gas driving to Albemarle. Lums Ford has only one Marauder and it's black without traction control

There was a Blue one at the Portland auto show, with the light flint interior. I kind of like the blue, but would prefer the dark charcoal interior.

Some of these dealers are their own worst enemy. They have access to all the info, all they need to do is read it. No wonder sales are slow!

At the Portland auto show there was also a CVLxSport in the Ford area. It actually sat about 50 ft from the Blue Marauder. The Ford salesman was talking to someone who had been looking at the Sport, and the guy had asked how it compared to a Marauder. The salesman actually said, "Well the Marauder you can only get in Black"

I have been buying high performance cars for 40 years. There has never been a time in which the "performance enthusiast" didn't know more about the car than the salesmen. This is not a sin. The salespeople have so many different things to know about, namely, how to put the "deal" together. Let's face it. The performance car is usually sold in much smaller quantities. The salespeople, unless they are enthusiasts too, just don't deal with the specific specifications of the particular performance car, as often as we do. I think that in the case of a performance machine or any lower production vehicle, it's really up to the enthusiast to do his homework, using info gained on sites like this one, to "know the numbers" before going in to make the purchase. And the other thing of course is that the salespeople want to sell what they have available or can get easily. That's natural.

Accufab Racing: Thats make perfect sense. Very well put sir. I could not agree more. My father a L&M dealer for over 40 years always told us "it's a salemans job to sell you what you don't want" Aha the "good old days" I remember when I bought my MM very few at the dealership knew any thing about it.
If you know what you want the cars sells itself.

Exactly!! Given up on finding a used MM at a price comparable to what Logan sold his for. In my search for a new MM, I don't even bother with the sales people. I'm calling or e-mailing the agency and asking to talk to the finance guy, and tell him what I'm willing to pay, what I've got to put down, and if he and his boss want to do the deal, let me know what they want for payments. I also tell them my credit rating, and what I've been quoted as payments. Haven't been successful with this approach yet, but then I've only contacted three dealerships as of this morning. There's a dozen more within a couple of hours of my house (greater L.A./San Diego area) and I'll be up in Seattle this next few weeks at my daughter's. Expect to make decision last week of this month. So far, best alternative is to go to Texas and hook up with Logan's team. (I've got free airline tickets, a son to help drive, so its food and gas to get home, and that's it.)

That's a plan for sure, Bill, remind the dealers that it's their market that's down, not ours. Given your situation, you could buy your MM anywhere in the country, and have a nice "break in" ride home. Don't forget to check the Chicagoland market.

Better yet, give Dennis a call and see if he can steer you into the right dealer, and drive home with your mods all done right!

Wish I had this kind of opportunity, oh well...

Hadn't thought about Dennis' area. Will call him later this week, and see what he's able to do. Probably should call Dave at K/B and ask him too. And it's always possible to pick car up east of here. Then drive to either place, set up job, fly home for a whatever time is needed, fly back and then drive home the completed car. Geez, the possible combinations sure look promising. This may sound screwy to some of you, but you need to know that I bummed around this country and the Pacific Rim as a sales engineer for my company for the better part of 20 years. I really feel at home in most any major industrial center in the U.S. And meeting the people there, talking with them about busines, family, kids, etc. is the most fun.

dok,
I don't know about you, but if I were a dealer looking at 30+ large, I'd find a pink one if that's what you wanted. Seriously, any reputable dealer should be able to locate one for you. These guys trade, swap etc. all the time to make a sale. Only trouble I see is that you may end up with a bunch of miles to get it to where you're at. I'd also try the web, maybe autotrader or something like that. LOL

I realize this is a little late getting on this post, but I had a similar experience when I went looking for my LX sport. Dealers were tripping over themselves trying to get me one. One even offered to paint a car for me, but I obviously was not going to do that. I originally wanted the toreador red LX sport with a grey interior, and almost got one, but They would not come down in their price at all. Ended up with a black one. ***** to keep clean, but after I drove it on the highway and people were scrambling to get out of my way, I decided that black would be ok :)

Good points, however selling cars isn't rocket science, and part of a salesman's job is taking the time to know the cars he has for sale. It really isn't that much to ask of them. Some won't even go to their books or Salesman's pocket cheat to find the answers

That's a great story about the salesman at the show -- blind AND dumb!

OK guys. Now I'm really steamed.

After I started this post on Monday, I went to Mercury's website, Mercuryvehicles.com,. I found the link to email them and did so. I told them that I had been looking for a blue MM and that dealers were telling me that it only came in black. I said it was disappointing that dealers didn't know their product.

5 minutes ago, I received a phone call from Mercury customer assistance regarding my email. I couldn't believe what I was told and I quote. "Sir, the Mercury Marauder only comes in black." At that point, I lost it.

So for those of you that have a blue MM, you really have a black one. They don't make a blue one.

I plan on going to dealers next week to try to make a deal on a silver one. That should be a lot of fun.

I was told it was the Dealers fault that the Marauder kinda fell flat on it's face, but this proves otherwise to me that there ain't much communication going on here! Come on L/M get it together!
