I got my K&N Aircharger today and installed it.
Installation is pretty straight forward and there is only three things I had to alter...
First, the edge trim is a PIA to get around the heat shield.
It requires a little ingenuity, and a little bit of trimming here and there to make it fit properly around the sharp bends.
Second, the screw they supply to relocate the Air Suspenion Pump muffler is TOO SHORT.
The only way I could use it was if I left off the washers they asked me to use.
Third, the hose they supply to connect from the PCV Valve
in the valve cover to the intake tube is too long, and too soft.
I had to cut it to make it fit and there is still more of a kink in the hose
than a bend.
I may just try and get a replacement hose that was used for the original PCV valve
and see if it comes with just enough extra length to fit properly.
All I need is about 2" more over the length of the hose that was there to fit properly.
Otherwise everything fit pretty much perfect!
The bracket provided holds the end of the intake tube in the correct position
and allows for some adjustment.
The heat shield with the PIA edge trim is pushing against the hood right now,
but that will probably subside as the edge trim settles in.
The sound is much better than just the drop in filter in the stock airbox,
and tomorrow I'll get to see if the SOMP meter can detect a difference...

One more thing...
The Label on the box states the following, in very fine print,
and is very confusing...
*Product is legal only for off-highway use (except in California or states that have adopted California emission standards),
competition racing, marine or for use on pre-emissions-controlled motor vehicles/motor-vehicle engines
(pre-1998 vehicles certified to federal standards and all pre-1998 foreign vehicles),
per the manufacturers application guide.
So now the $64 question...
Is it legal for STREET USE in states, and on motor vehicles, that have adopted California emission standards ???

NYS has the same emissions requirements that the PRC has.

Translated from the legalese;
*You can use this for drag racing and other places you wouldn't take a VW bug.( Except for California and other weako treehugging states). You can use this on the street if your car is old enough to make lots of smoke anyhow. You can't sue us because you altered the smog control. Neener neener.

I didn't encounter any of those problems installing my K&N kit either.

Ditto on all three.
MENINBLK, I was wondering what your driving impression was with your new K&N intake kit? You sort of hinted you were going to post a follow-up. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Anyone else tried this kit yet? I found a dyno result on a previous post, but was looking for some additional views or advice. Currently my car is bonestock and in the near future I can't see myself doing much more than exhaust and intake. I'm big time on the fence for gears. I'm very happy with the stock performance of the car as my daily driver. Just looking for a little extra...for now.

By the seat-of-my-pants I can feel a little more pickup off the line
and faster engine response when accelerating from 60 mph.
But the biggest WOW is the SOUND it makes at WOT !!!
It's loud enough to scare the ricers away !!!

The sound alone was worth the investment! :coolman:
