Wow. I guess it's different to hang out with the rich guys.

It must be at CVN there's more guys with blown motors and transmissions than without, so that's why all the members aren't donating to help replace my C6? LOL

I always assumed that blown [insert part here] was the responsibility of the dumbass that caused [insert part here] to break. It's hard to believe that any performance board anywhere would help prop someone up in that particular situation. I guess I just haven't hung out at MM.net enough to understand.

Ed I am with you on that... I posted a tongue in cheek request for them to pay for my toys and they did not...

Just wish we had a board that would pay for my follies.

We have a lot of folks with $$$ to spend but dont do ANY work on their cars over there... thats fine.. but then when something goes inevitably poof.. out comes the anger and sympathy thing...

I think Rocket Couch on here spent way more on his bad ass vic and got worked over for sure by a shop big time... but he got over it.. rebuilt and trucking on...

One thing a lot of the boomers (my peer group) did was to raise kids with unrealistic expectations of what society owes them no doubt...

they try to squeeze 450-500HP or more out of granny car on a stock block and then wonder why it might take a dump and puke parts...

time and time again they say that and then they sit down with a beer watch a race on tv and see some engine smoked and say well thats racing>>>> you think ANYONE wants their motor to blow up???? hell no.. but thats what they do when you push the envelope....

It gets so old but Atrains line is best... "Its only a matter of time"

The sad fact is either the engine was over spun past it's original redline/limiter or the power just overcame the stock rod bolts. I haven't had a chance to look at the carnage since you have to log in that site to view the photos. As they say "sheet" happens. Remember...not IF folks, WHEN. A-Train

I don't see what's wrong with helping each other out. It's kinda like family over there. I don't even own a Marauder but work for a Lincoln Mercury Dealer that supports their site and sells a lot of parts over there. I was asked if they could use my dealership on a weekend to swap the engine. I told them no, because of liability and insurance regulations. I spoke to my friend who owns JD's Auto. He volunteered his shop and employees to do the job. I think this is the first car site to ever do something like this. You might not agree with it, and that's your choice. I just wanted to explain how it came about. I've been racing and hot rodding for over 35 years. Nothing like this has ever happened to me and have always paid my own way. Mark is not even sure he wants to accept this. He's deciding where and how he is going to have his car repaired. He may decide to refuse this offer. I thought it was a nice thing for us to do. Thanx, Ray Jermyn Sr.

I know they don't get us. We have one car to discuss, made for just under 3 years. Must be a lot tougher to find a community spirit when you're spread out over 10 years of more of production, with so much variety. To each his own, we're all "tools" to them anyway.

I'm certainly not rich. Buying this car pushed my finances about as far as they'd go. So no, it's definitely not a money thing. I think it's a community spirit thing, driven at least in part by how small our community is. There aren't hundreds of thousands of Marauder owners out there. That's got to make a difference.

Well, and I think they missed the whole point of it. No one was looking for a handout to fix the motor. This was something started here to help someone out. If you don't have the means to help, then that is fine. I may not even own a Marauder right now, but I still offered to help. Why, because of this website.

I don't want to bash sites or car owners, but this website (and I say this again as I have before) and the people on here is why my next car will be a MM. This is the kind of people I want to be around. Those posts from that website are why I don't want just a GM or CV, why I don't want to do anything with my Accord (ricer/import mentality), and why I have a hard time with some Mustang owners. Unfortunately, each of those groups has their good points, too. A lot of it seems to be an "age" thing. And there are some younger people that don't act like that and guess what, some of them are on here!! (I mean that in a good way - more mature young people on here than other sites).

OK, enough for now. I am still in for my pledge and don't mind helping someone out - especially when the help was not asked for in the first place.

We have one of the best sites around, and the CV site has really improved over the last year, Rob Indars is one of the administartors and one of the moderators posts here regualry, its very hard to evennly moderate any site, the CV site does have a younger group than here but over all it is a very good site and the moderators there work hard to maintain the site, as well as any one can. But again it is great that there has been so much of a responce to help Mark.

Who would bash Marauder owners for supporting a fellow Marauder owner in need? A guy that doesn't own one! DUH!

That's got to be the worst thing I ever see, criticizing somebody for helping out his fellow man. Now what would Jesus have to say about an attitude like that?

Jealousy and covetousness are two character defects we don't have in great abundance here. After all, if you chose to buy a Marauder in the first place, you already knew what you were looking for, and after you bought it, well, need I say more? I'm a little suprised there isn't all 10,000+ of us on this site but I guess some people still don't get the computer thing yet.

If you guys want to think about having a car that people "don't understand", try having a Mustang II.

Stop for a minute....what was the first thing that popped into your mind when you read that? Exactly my point. "It's just a Pinto". Without a II there never would have been a 300+ HP factory Cobra, or even the Probe/Mustang debate in 86/87. Did the 05 win the Motor Trend car of the year? The 74 did. And to this date still is one of the top sellers for a model year.

Anyways, I collect and restore Mustangs. My 78 I've had since 88, with only 78,000 mile on it. Still all original down to the dated spark plug wires and bias-ply spare tire that's never been on the ground. Only 3 Mustangs right now, had to sell a few. Fully restored Tx DPS Mustang (turned into 2 diecasts, 1/43rd and 1/18th, and used in a movie (Friday Night Lights)) and a unmolested 93 Cobra with 17,000 miles. But by being a Ford guy with a P71 I learn stuff from MM.net for my car.

Sorry my friend, the "us vs. them" is guaranteed. It's natural, innate, as important as breathing and reproduction of the species. It's called competition.

We are taught this principal in our early years, and it becomes a rule we live by. It begins with our first "team" adventure, maybe our first "shirts vs. skins" pick-up game in junior high? Nonetheless, however it starts, it's all around us every day and everywhere we turn. Competition is what drives America, and competition is constant. It's what turns the next page. Someone will always say "this is the best" when it's not, and someone else will always answer up why it's not.

"Tastes great...Less Filling"
"Nitto...BFG"
"Mobil 1...Amsoil"
"Reinhart...Trilogy"
"Roots...Centrifugal"
"Ford...Chevy"
"Republican...Democrat"
"Sexy?...****!"
"Manual...Automatic"
"VHS...Beta?"
"Leave the lights on...NO!"
"It's a dry heat..."

The list can go on forever, but my point is that "us vs. them" is constant, permanent, and an important state of mind because once there is only one answer to a question, there are no more questions, and innovation dies.

Yes, we are all Panthers, but it stops there. Here are some simple rules we all forget from time to time.

Speak up, silence is deafening.
Pick your team and stand your ground.
Support your choice through good and bad reaction.
Be honest with your facts.
Have proof, deliver proof, and get proof.
Always...Be respectful. Name calling changes the topic, and temp.
Be prepared to be wrong, and accept the fact when you are.

This is how folks get along on the MM.Net. If you can achieve four or more of these goals, most others here will think of you as a decent "even keeled" guy. If you achieve less than three, you'll be looking for a new screen name every six months. Oh...Almost forgot. Talk over the phone beats a post, and a handshake beats the snit out of any telephone call. We have proven this.

BTW, I'm only posting this because today, I got a Xmas card from an older MM.Net member who I never expected to get a greeting card from. Things change...No two sunrises are ever the same, eh?

Let's continue to make this place special, let's continue to fight fair, to compete with all we have, and to be happy for the achievements of all. End of sermon, got to go next door to the church, it's already time for the vigil.

Very Respectfully, -kjs-

Well Sarge, you are right. There is a natural tendency to simplify ones place in the world through dissection and categorization and pull for ones own tribe. It's that propensity that causes these needless rifts.

Sometimes it simply a lack of perspective and stubborn rigidity that prevents people from finding a way to be supportive or even passively positive about something.

I think those who find fault with this should take a moment and put a little bit of the energy that they expend in being megative and try to find a way to see a benefit.

If they're are enthusiastic about something, and their buddy across the street was a decent fellow and also enthusiastic about the same thing, would you not lend the guy a hand when he found himself in a bad spot (even of his own creation) and you were able? A wrench? A beer? A weekend?

Before this unfortunate situation could be posted for hundreds or thousands to see, it would have been maybe tens of people that may have been aware. All nearby, ready to lend a hand.

I can't lend a hand to help as I live too far away. It makes little sense for me to send tools (actual hand tools, not MM.net "tools"). I have no technical expertise to share. I do have a couple of bucks I can spare for a pal who shares enthusiasm for the same thing I do.

So with that bit of perspective in hand, anyone who still chooses to see this situation casting a valueless light is most likely not the kind of person that would ever be afforded a chance to be on the receiving end of it.

Sorry my friend, the "us vs. them" is guaranteed. It's natural, innate, as important as breathing and reproduction of the species. It's called competition....

Speak up, silence is deafening.
Pick your team and stand your ground.
Support your choice through good and bad reaction.
Be honest with your facts.
Have proof, deliver proof, and get proof.
Always...Be respectful. Name calling changes the topic, and temp.
Be prepared to be wrong, and accept the fact when you are...

This is how folks get along on the MM.Net.
Wow, Mac. That was a great post.... enjoyed reading it very much. Very well said. I'd like to add thanks for extending a welcome hand to new members here. Members such as yourself made me feel welcome from my very first post.
Hope you're having a Merry Christmas.

the folks on www.crownvic.net and www.mercurymarauder.net are on one hand as different as they come and on the other very similar, but any way you look at it both boards are home to some of the best friends I've made on the internet and am still making them daily!

I would give the shirt off my back to any member of either of the boards, because both are exceptional people, no matter how crazy they are!

I love www.crownvic.net and www.mercurymarauder.net !

JerseryVics, "what you said!"

There are rotten apples in every basket but my experience has been that once you know who they are the good apples are very, very good. That is how I would describe my experience on CVN.

For example: During this last summer Ultravorx and I spent a good deal of time trying to motivate the MM.net crew to join us at the Berlin Pike. The best I got, after a few weeks or trying, was 2 guys. Now, don't get me wrong, i was glad to make friends with 2 Maruder owners any day. However, after making one post on the CVN board about it with less than one week notice I got 4 guys to show up with their cars. One from NH, one from ME and two from MA.

Now, I am not trying to put down the MM.net guys...I hope that all of you know me well enough to know that I have nothing but the highest regard for most of you. :) I know that we all have very busy lives and not everyone likes to engage in "cruising" like some do. No, what I am trying to do is highlight that the CVN guys have as much enthusiasm and good heartedness for their cars and fellow owners are we do for our cars and fellow owners.

Bad communication is better than no communication at all. Being able to express a difference of opinion is what makes us humans. Well, that and opposable thumbs. Anyway, one of my best friends is a Mustang owning Ford freak and a Packers fan. I have 2 Chevys and a Merc and am a Bears fan. We differ on almost EVERYTHING, but would kill/die for each other (guess it's a military thing) if need be. If I had some extra money, I'd have donated to our MM brother in need, same thing if my buddys Mustang grenaded it's engine. The fact that another link thinks it is weird is weird to me. When someone on the ship is in a bad way, the collection hat immedietly comes out, I guess that's why it doesn't surprise me at all that people here would pitch in when something like this happens. And let me tell ya, if it was me, I'd accept the money and fix it up and be proud to have friends like there are here, and be ready to help the next person out when they need it, you know?

Both CVN and MM.net are good groups and both have their unique characteristics.

I wish the CVN crowd was as close knit as this group is. Back in the day things were so much better and now we have this influx of retards, and stupid fighting so its just not as much fun anymore.

It begins with our first "team" adventure, maybe our first "shirts vs. skins" pick-up game in junior high? Nonetheless, however it starts, it's all around us every day and everywhere we turn. Competition is what drives America, and competition is constant.

Agreed, its how we respond during and after that separate the "winners" on both sides.

Obviously Mac is not Italian, competition starts immediately as an Italian child - fight for your food or die of starvation!

There are two happening here soon. On 1 January some of the CAM members are gonna link up at the 2005 Washington Auto Show, 1 PM @ the Ford display (about 176 miles). Then, on 9 January there's a meet at Big Bat's in Stevensville, MD on Kent Island (about 150 miles up the eastern shore). Check the CAM threads in the Northeast Marauder forum.

I remember those days and I enjoyed them. As with everything good it must end sometime. Im sorry but I just stopped posting over there because I just got tired of it. Most things were getting old and repeated and the one place I stayed "High performance/4.6L Engine" section I decided to leave. Ive met alot of good people and miss it but I just kinda wanna not touch some of the BS over there. Not to mention in the early stages of the site what I contributed (though little it was still something). Im still undecided on which car I want but its looking like a Mustang GT, and if I had the money a Marauder. There's my .02 and "hi" to everyone that knows me. :)

Russ, I remember the old 92 you had and the accidential burn out (your balding tires hit a puddle :D ). I was like 14 when I went to that meet and enjoyed meeting everyone like Jim, Jason, you (Russ), Amir, and so forth. I really miss those days, and your right Russ we were a closely knit community and then I really cant explain what happened.

I mean there are still alot of great people over there that I would help out anytime they needed me, but its just not a place I'd wanna be right now. One of the reasons I left was because it was more arguing and BS. Not bashing Rob, Steve, or CVN by saying this, because they have done a great job, but the maturity level and such are not high over there. I guess people might laugh a 16 year old is saying that but I sometimes find myself behaving more mature then most over there. Oh well what else can I say, because anymore would be calling CVN a bad site which if I did would clearly be a lie. I know of no other site that offers such detailed information and a great line of people that do know their stuff on these cars. I learnt alot and still know a boat load of stuff on these cars most people wouldnt even dream of.

That has to be the absolutely most asinine thing that I have heard anyone say in a long, long time. For someone to make a comment like that demonstrates that they clearly have no understanding at all for the person or the preferences of the person that they are talking to.

All this talk is nice but what gets me is that I can park my Marauder next to a dozen or so Crown Vics, Grand Marquis, or even Town cars.
When I get back to the car there is ALWAYS someone looking at MY MARAUDER !!!

Just today, I was at Staples in Scarsdale, NY, and I parked next to a Silver 2000 Crown Vic.
As I left my Marauder and walked towards Staples, the Crown Vic's owner stopped me and asked if I would mind if he oodled over my Marauder.
I said, "Sure, Lets go!", and walked back to my Marauder with him and let him take a good look at it.
We talked about the differences between the 03 300A/B and the 04 300A.
We also talked about the color choices of the Marauder.
He even asked if he could sit in it, and I let him take a squat and he loved the gauges and the interior.

This person wanted a Marauder really bad, but couldn't get one for his own reasons.

I like to treat everyone the same. I have a car that is a statement of who I am.
This Marauder is just as special as all of the people I've met that own one,
and just as special as the people who are interested in seing what it really is and what its all about.

If a few Panther owners are jealous, let them be...

If they wanted to welcome us, they would have welcomed us long ago,
and extended the courtesy to us that we are extended to each other.
