Well, I was driving home last night and I got rearended. :bigcry: Some kid in a rental car (Chevy Lumina) hit me when I was slowing down behind a minivan.

There was a huge puddle in the road and it was rainy. The van (a cabbie) was moving over to the left lane to go through the shallow part of the puddle and I was slowing down to follow him. That's when the kid in the Lumina rearended me and I got bounced into the cab. :(

My car is such a mess.:alone: The crumple zone in the rear is.. crumpled. My drivers side exhaust got pushed foward and bent down to the road. My front end on the drivers side has a busted headlight assembly and the turn signal light was hanging off of it... it reminded me of a zombie type horror flick where the eyeball's hanging out of the socket .:puke: Oh and the driver's side front fender panel got pushed back enough that my door won't open more than a foot or so.

On the bright side, the Lumina may have kicked my Marauder in the ass, but it came off the loser in this lovetap. His front end crumple zone is completely crumpled. Also, airbags deploy at a certain acceleration (from the crash). His went off, my car didn't bother ;) I have mixed feelings about that. I was wearing my seatbelt, so I didn't need the airbags (unlike the loser in the lumina who wasn't buckled up), still..

The minivan was able to just drive off after the state police got our information. My car took enough of the force to leave him with only a bent bumper and a broken taillight.

I'm so, so pissed off. I just called my insurance agent.. nobody's home.. I have to wonder if my marauder is going to spend the new year at the tow truck yard.

Same thing happen to me. Rainy night 7 kid in a Dodge mini van. I was just sitting at a light and bang over $2500 in damages plus rental car. It took over 3 weeks to fix. The shop had to wait for the rear bumper.

Merry Christmas

I know how you feel, sort of. I wasn't home to see anything and my MM was repaired before I got back.

Sorry to hear about your Marauder. Glad to hear that you were not hurt. Inexperience causes kids to overestimate their stopping ability especially in bad weather. My son rear-ended a Pathfinder a few years ago in a Mercury Mystake :D and the Mystake lost big time on the front end. The Pathfinder had a scuff on the spare tire hanging on the back.

Don't worry about your air bag not poping from a rear end collision, they are designed mostly to stop your head from going forward from a sudden stop, not to stop you from going back from sudden acceperation (being rear ended)

Sucks to hear about your car though, at least with the rental you know they have insurance.

Sorry to hear about that. Ouch! But, on the bright side, a good body shop can make it all better.

Glad to hear nobody was seriously hurt...

A Lumina is kind of old to be doing rental car duty, IIRC, 1999 or 00 was the last year for them.....

Just out of curiosity, if this sort of thing happens in 3 years or so and parts are unavailable, are we just screwed? I would demand that I get brand new parts or a cash settlement to buy a new car. I know the insurance guys will probably say "sorry, can't fix it, can't replace it. Here's $500 for your trouble."

I believe the FMC must produce parts for 10 years after production. The sheet metal is the same for all panther platform models. The main problem will be the front and rear facia which are common to the Marauder only.
