Was looking through Hot rod Mag while on the throne and noticed this in there and was wondering if this is something that can be done on our cars too...
I may have made another mistake with this i just noticed they did this on a blown 454..

That whole idea sucks.... :D
P.S. Mark, you are like me...the only time I get to read all my car magazines is when I'm on the 'Throne'! That's why I cringe whenever I read about a "HEMI"....

I may be able to get you 5 more HP to the wheels with new synthetic lubes. It has been dozens of times. The Marauder is not as easy to acheive gains though because all the factory lubes are either synthetic or semi synthetic form the start. But if you are going to change your lubes anyway try my brew......

:santaw: Hey, Mark, Merry Christmas. :wreath:
I'm not sure I have a clear idea about what the gadget's supposed to do. :dunno:
It seems a very large contraption, and I'm wondering if all that's worth 5HP, no matter how it works, or what it does. Did you get this month's Car & Driver ...10 best issue? There's one for your stack in the "reading" room. For guys who hate Ford, they're doing back flips over the new Mustang ...aren't we all?:D

What? And not get to look at that desireable piece? What have you seen (gains) with trans fluid? how long does it last?

Bradley,
I don't know how much you might gain with Amsoil trans fluid vs your Mercon V. Both are pretty slippery and to be perfectly honest I have never tried back to back dyno runs on a automatic car Mercon V vs. Amsoil. I am looking for candidates to try it.
Realtive to service life of the Amsoil ATF, it should go 60000 miles with no trouble asssuming normal street use.
I did do my own dyno testing on a 200 HP BMW about 4 yeras ago and gained 3.7% Hp and 5.4% torque after changing manual tarnny fluid and gear lube.
Frankly, In my gamble about the 5 HP, I figure the biggest gain would come from rear gear lube. Ford puts 75W140 synthetic lube in our diffs form the factory and it is intended to be a "fill for life" product. It is my opinion (based on the owners manual info regarding taxi use) that the 140 is overkill simply because Ford figures that most owners will never change the lube. I use 75w90 Amsoil synthetic gear lube in my car and intend to change it every 50000 or so. 75w90 vs, 75W140 is probably worth 5 hp but again I have never tired babck to back dyno runs.
You being in Barrington, you can save all shipping charges on Amsoil products as there is a distribution warehouse in Bensenville. There are no retail sales at such centers but I can get you either a dealer number or a Preferred Customer number where you can buy it fom the DC.
Let me know if your interested.

Thanks Don,
Thank you for the 411.I just did my trans last week,Powerflush @ the dealer.I'm on the pedal hard so at 16k I figured I should step up the normal maint schedule.I would be ok W/ testing any gains using synthetics.I will still use my origional dealer, but they should be ok with synthetics. My wife works in Elk Grove,so getting to Bensenville is no sweat!

Don, my service manual states that the Marauder rear end uses plain old 80W-90...so perhaps switching to a full-synth like AMSOIL 75W-90 would in fact make a bigger difference in HP, and most certainly reduce wear.
As you stated, it's also a good idea to change the differential lube periodically, irrespective of the ridiculous "filled for life" marketing BS...people don't realise that actually means filled for the life of the warranty...
