Well it's been a project for a couple months now. I bought an iPod and an item called "Aux-Pod" but recently they named it iPod2Car (Aux-Pod (http://logjamelectronics.com/pacauxpod.html)) Initially I thought this product was a great idea, exactly what I was looking for. One thing I did not see mentioned in Logjam's website (Not their fault) is that by tricking the factory head unit into thinking you are playing a CD, it will constantly loop the "CD" time by 1..2..1..2, etc...Kinda annoying for crazy people like me. It has some other cool features, like retaining your factory stereo steering wheel controls for one. Thats how I justified the price.
Anyways, after getting it hooked up the butch way just to see if everything worked, the Aux-Pod box does not fit inside the dash behind the head unit. I spent atleast 30 minutes trying to make it work, with no success, knowing my last option. I must lengthen the 16 pin connection.
I took my time (in fact all in all this took 3 hours) carefully splicing the factory harness and splicing the new harness from a Ford Focus (Heres Why (http://pac-audio.com/bulletins/ford mod.pdf)) After all that time cutting, connecting, feeling that pain when big fingers try to work on small things for a long time, it hasn't worked since. Most definatly, It is probably my fault :mad2: Lately I have not felt like spending 3 more hours to do so much wiring when they are in the process of making a harness for our cars.
Until then I went to Best Buy yesterday and bought one of the tapes that you put it and plug into the iPod and I must say...sound quality has not gone down...I am very impressed.
The moral of this story is: If you have an iPod, and want to get it working in your car, do not take this route unless you are ready for the wiring at this point. I was told the company is in the process of making a real harness for our cars. If you do buy the Aux-Pod you can do one of two things: 1) Extend the wiring to get the actual box behind the dash near the floor or 2) Carefully "Extract" some dash material from behind your head unit. I wasn't too settled with the idea of cutting up inside my dash, but to each his own.
Just the heads up! Post any questions...
