View Full Version : Help Barry Get Gas....

Barry wants a nitrous system, but he needs the money to get one. He has even taken to selling parts from his car (his electric water pump is up for sale).
Barry is entitled to some recognition as being the fastest N/A MM around.
So, here is what I propose. Everyone should help kick in a couple of bucks and give Barry some gas. Laughing gas that is.
To start this off, my contribution is 25 bucks.
Who else is in on this? By the way, if you feel more comfortable you can PM me with your pledges.
Oh, and one other thing. I haven't told Barry about this, so he doesn't know anything yet. Shhhh, don't tell him!

Not to change the subject, but his car is the fastest "racetrack" N/A Marauder, and not neccessarily the fastest on the street since he uses a 100 octane race gas engine tune at the track to obtain his ET's, as well as pulling out the driver's side headlight to get cold air in there which ofcourse you wouldn't do on the street either. I'm not saying that Barry is wrong to do those things, nor that there aren't other people who do that, and who run on 100 octane race fuel "AT THE TRACK". All I'm saying is that there are plenty of fast N/A Marauders that run in the high 13's at the track as well as ones that are on the street which haven't had those things done to them ,and if you do NOT specify these things, and you simply list Barry's excellent quartermile ET's that he's acheived, then it can be deceiving to some of our newer board members who haven't yet modified their Marauders.
I'm not looking to take any credit away from Barry. but I only make mention of this because it's unrealistic for some mebers here to have stated that Barry's Marauder is just as fast as some of the supercharged Marauders. the fact is, that if all the supercharged marauders were running on a 100 octane race fuel engine tune, and had the driver's side headlight removed at the track, then everyone of them would probably be in the 11 second bracket provided they had atleast drag radials in the back to hook-up, or even slicks like Barry uses. So staing that barry's car is as fast as some supercharged Marauders are isn't an accurate statement at all. In full street trim, and supercharged marauder will out-accelerate barry's car, and rightly so.

No matter what kind of track prep you do.... I never said that it wasn't "amazing"...nor that Barry doesn't deserve any credit for doing that. I just said, (and STILL say) that it's a crock for anyone to claim (as some here have) that Barry's car is as fast as a supercharged Marauder since that claim does NOT tell the whole story at all. Let me repeat myself by pointing out that if any supercharged Marauder had all the prep that Barry's car has for the track, then it would easily be in the 11's. And I don't care to do any of that to my car since my approach is, (and always has been) to race my car the way that it gets driven on the street. That's the way that I ran John (aka "Jet") and did so on pump gas. Why has Barry himself stated before on this board that he wishes that he had a supercharger for his car if his car is "just as fast as a supercharged Marauder" is? The fact is, that it isn't. That's like someone doing a burnout with their car, and making claim for performing better burnouts than others, when all the while, their burnouts were performed using bleach. Like I said, get real...

This is fun...no really!
Two...no..., make that three concurring topics in one thread. A not so serious 'GAS FUND' for me, a very serious 'RE-TREAD FUND' for Menace, and a new 'DEBATE' for Billy.
Several things to note here:
1. Of course I will not be accepting any donations other than compliments and critisms. So don't any of you dare send anything other that those to ANYONE.
2. Menace DOES need a set of tires although I firmly believe those Nittos are in their prime for hooking up in an enviroment other than a back road in their present condition.
3. Billy hasn't started typing in COLORS yet so I firmly believe the thread is still in control.
Now to reply to sub-topic three.....:P
I can never tell what my MM is gonna do at the track from day to day. Although I love my setup, the car can be somewhat tempermental from time to time and act up. As far as that day in question at FFW Norwalk running true street....yes...TRUE STREET, I was wrong, I had to sort through a hundred or so timeslips, but I found it, and I only ran a 13.44. I will admit I never ran better than a 13.51 for the remainer of the competition as this was my first run test and tune at 08:30 in the morning and the weather was 68 degrees or so. BTW again....Jerry Barnes was there as well!!!
SEE THUMBNAILS BELOW FOR TIMESLIP AND PHOTO OF TEST AND TUNE
Now then, as for my 13.2x runs at Mason Dixon. I did these runs on STREET TIRES as well. Only difference, fuel and headlight. I firmly believe that with all the wheel spin (I have videos of those runs), that had I had the slicks, or even Nittos like yours, I would have easily dipped into the 12's that evening.
I know this is hard for you yo grasp, but understand, I NEVER SAID I WAS FASTER THAN AN S/C CAR! I NEVER SAID I WAS AS FAST AS AN S/C CAR. But I will always claim to give you folks a run for your money, and if track conditions are in my favor....so be it...YOUR loss.
When I get the bottle on, and have Lidio set one of my switches to his awesome tune, I WILL run the crap out of an S/C CAR and it WILL be fair as neither of us will be N/A any longer. If you use Nittos, I use M/T's streets, your choice to buy better fuel and pull headlights....fair and square...
Now back to TOPIC 2, I will donate and old garden hose and two sets of rubber tennis shoes toward Menaces' RE-TREAD FUND.
**Sorry Mercman, It took me like 40 minutes to get that post together and you had already replied before I finally hit enter. I won't antogonize any further either. Promise. :)

I will admit I never ran better than a 13.51 for the remainer of the competition as this was my first run test and tune at 08:30 in the morning and the weather was 68 degrees or so.Barry, thanks for your honesty, and in all fairness, I must say that a 13.4 is a 13.4, and even though you weren't running too consistent that day, you're still in the right for claiming a 13.4 run. So my Hat's off to you (hey! I'm typing in colors! :D ). I also appreciate you correcting yourself by admitting that it wasn't 86 degrees at the track during that 13.4 run, but 68 degrees.
I NEVER SAID I WAS AS FAST AS AN S/C CAR. ...so be it...YOUR loss.NAW Barry, it isn't any "Loss" for me, because my car will run 12.2's all day in 70 degree weather consistently. But for the record, I NEVER said that it was YOU who stated that your car was faster than a Supercharged Marauder is, because I don't believe that you ever did say that. There are two other people on this board who have said that, and that's what I think was inaccurate. So my objection to that claim specifically had nothing to do with anything that you have said, and I apologize if I didn't make that clear. ;)
:)
Barry, if you get Nitrous oxide and beat my times, or even beat my car at some track, then I'll be happy for you, and I sincerely mean that. In fact, if you do what you've mentioned to your car, I suspect that it will turn better ET's than mine does, and I have absolutely no problem with that, and I'll openly congratulate you on that. After all, you do have a Marauder like I do. So I really think that you've taken me all wrong. More power to ya Barry. I just like it to be well known when anyone who runs multi-position chips that include a specific and more aggressive engine tune for 100 octane race gas, and has turned remarkable ET's like you have turned with your car, that these accomplishments were made with these things, and that the cars that they're done with are NOT as fast as that in street trim. And when I say "STREET" trim, I mean with 93 octane gas, and both headlights installed, just as the car is driven on the street. Furthermore I've freely admitted in the past, that your car is a bit faster than mine ever was BEFORE it was supercharged, and my hat's off to you for that. Again, more power to ya Barry. And thankyou for your explanation.
Mercman, I believe that you instructed me not to post here again, simply because you thought that I'd come out swinging, and that this whole thing would flare up, but I don't see any need for that, and so far it hasn't, and that's why I've posted again. I mean no disrespect to you, nor to your authority here.

[left]1. Of course I will not be accepting any donations other than compliments and criticisms.
Now what am I going to do with the dough I am collecting?
And, so that everyone knows, I really did/do want to help Barry get his kit. I want to see what a properly set up kit will do for these cars and, like I said before, Barry will set it up right.
I am still going to contribute my pledged amount Barry and whatever else I may collect. Do what you want with the money or give it to charity (I highly endorse either the American Diabetes Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Fund, but the choice is yours).
