I've been staring at it and I've got a question...

Why is it everything on the dash is lit up, and the only thing on my Headlight Switch
that lights up is the FOG LAMP INDICATOR ???

Is anyone's Headlamp Switch BACKLIT ?!?!? :dunno:

Mine is. All the symbols on the headlamp switch are backlit in green. Get yours checked?

I notice you have a 03 300A.
I've got an 04 300A.

Does anyone with an 04 notice if their headlight switch is backlit ???

They're backlit in my 2004.

On a related note are anyone's seat adjustment control buttons illuminated? mine are not.

Seat controls not backlit on mine. Headlight switch is. However the switch itself just has a white indicator mark showing it's position in relation to the back lighting.

The icons above the headlamp switch are illuminated by a miniature bulb when the switch is turned CW or CCW from the "O" position. The fog lamp icon is illuminated by a separate sub-miniature bulb when the swich is pulled out. Although the miniature bulb can be easily removed from the back of the switch (twist-lock), FOMOCO does not sell a $.10 replacement bulb. Currently, the only option is to replace the entire switch assembly (part#3W3Z-11654-AA). Price on the switch is arround $90! Ask me how I know. :cheesed:

Okay I looked again. The switch is only illuminated when the lights are on. So how do u see anything if youre fumbling around in the dark? The CV I used to have had the switch lit as soon as the key was on!

I've got a good one for you.
When you insert a cassette tape, the light on the tuner button goes out but relights when you eject.

I almost had a fit until I realized it was activated by the tape.

Carry on.

On a related note, I wish the dimmer switch had some kind of backlighting...I do the same fumbling in the dark trying to find the thumbwheel. Of course, I end up inadvertently turning the interior lights on, since I don't remember which direction is dim or bright.

The second picture shows the switch disassembled. NOTE: The miniature lamp can be removed without taking the switch apart by twisting the lamp base CCW. As of yet I haven't been able to find a replacement lamp. Maybe the dealer can help on this one.

Mine also.

The only 2 things that are a pain is you can’t tell if your headlights are on unless it is dark enough in the car. Also does anyone’s overhead console buttons light up? :mad2: At night I can't find the build-in homelite garage door button! On my 2004 Lincoln Continental the buttons light up in the overhead console so you can see what heck you’re doing.

Mongoose: How do you pop out the headlight switch panel? you don't have to dismantle the dash, right?

BTW, Autometer sells those bulbs. I'd think you could pull the "stack" that it sits on out of a wrecked CV, Town Car, or Grand Marquis. Good luck.

The headlamp switch just snaps into the dash panel. You can use a small screwdriver to pop it out if you're careful enough not to mar the dash. I made a plastic tool to do it. I'll check out Autometer and see what I can find out.

Do you remember if there were any NUMBERS on the lamp ?
