View Full Version : What's Going on With Legal Knevil?

Well, as they say in sports, it has been a building year. The Secret Legal Knevil/Hell Boy Secret Project that Todd and I undertook has consumed a lot ime, but the project is still moving along. After we ran the car in November, we went back to the drawing board to tackle some of the problems that were plaguing our porgress. We had to tackle slipping and fraying belts, tranny problems, and a bunch of other nits and nats.
We have a bunch of the bugs worked out and are addressing more each day. Most recently, we added a new custom radiator set up from Griffin. It is a sweet set up and you can see some pictures below. Once the radiator install and the current round of electrical upgrades is completed. We will be back on the dyno for more testing and tuning. Also, we will see whether we are going to stick with the current transmission set up or switch over to the manual valve body that we bought. That decision will be dictated n part by the ability to adjust some of the “tuning” issues that we had with earlier iterations of the transmission. We will know pretty soon.
What lies ahead for us this year (we hope) is as follows: FFW in Atlanta in mid-April; FFW in Englishtown in mid-May; Heavyweight shootout in June (if I get invited); and either FFW in Epping or WDC in Detroit in August. Oh yeah, and some general street terror anytime the weather permits.
As always, Todd and I will keep you posted on our progress. And feel free to visit our website: www.legalknevil.com

Nice rad Marty!! It's my understanding that those radiators can keep coolant temps as much as 20 degrees cooler in a number of applications. Good luck!!!!!

Marty,
Any chance you can post some performance numbers on the beast?

Marty,
Any chance you can post some performance numbers on the beast?
That's one of my New Year's resolutions......
I hope to have the car back on the dyno early in the year.
Right now, the best I have to offer is:
1/8 mile time of 8.08 trap speed of 91 mph

Great to read about your progress! I cannot wait to see you run at the Atlanta FFW in April. You will really turn some Ford heads. The car has absolutely tremendous potential. Good Luck.

Any plans to autocross it? The M Club starts in about 3-4 months. They hold the events at the Giants stadium parking lots. I'd love to see this thing move and hear the sound of WAR!!! :D

I don't usually cruise too many of the non brake related threads but this one caught my eye.
I'd speak with Griffin and see what they feel about that much ducting on the back side. This app has 50% of the radiator blocked off from air flow. Granted on slow runs or in traffic the fan will aide in cooling. I'm wondering more about your open road running. Keep in mind that fans do zip at running speed and in fact can inhibit air flow a bit themselves.
From one who has worked on cooling issue on my own race cars for many years I'm often concerned that what goes in, must go out. Ducting on the front and boxing of dead air space would be of bigger concern to me than the outlet.
Just my .02, best wishes on the project in whatever manner you choose.

Not only did we speak to Griffin, but we had them design and fabricate the whole assembly. They say this will work a lot better than the stock pieces that I was running.

So here is the latest that we fabricated for my car.
It is a double trunk-mounted battery hold down. We decided to double up on the batteries because of all the electrical equipment that the car is running (fuel pump, water pump, intercooler pump, fan, transmission cooler fans, etc.). Also, this will give me the back up to run the intercooler pump, water pump, and fan during between round cool downs - should help consistency when I am bracket racing. Not to mention, the bracket just looks plain trick!

Actually no. We started out with two Aeromotive battery hold downs and came up with what you see above.
This work was done by Buster at Grand Muffler in Marrietta, GA. He has done a lot of work on the exhaust systems of folks in the ATL area, including installing the Kooks and Reinhart systems.
Buster also made my custom exhaust for me, as well as fabbing up a bunch of other goodies like a belt tensioner, intake tubing, etc He is nothing short of a magician.

Let's emphasize "and crew"! Again, I couldn't do all this without help from my great friend, Todd! Heck, I couldn't even do half of this....
I am going down to the ATL in two weeks (President's weekend). I need some Waffle House. Anyone care to join me and Todd on one of our late night runs?

:hijack: To me, this is what this site is all about. Keith certainly owns an amazing Marauder with a story as interesting as Marty's. Yet, he takes the time to offer positive feedback when someone else is pushuing the envelope. How cool is that??? :D :D :D Okay- highjack over- please resume your normally scheduled program.
