Gang,
I haven't seen my "new" MM yet. Darn thing is in Vermont! How are the front license plate brackets afixed to the car? Drilled thru the bumper cover I suppose?
I don't know if mine has it installed yet or not. I fear it does because Vermont is a two plate state. Here in Arizona we only need run one. I'm not stressing over this.... but.... :alone:

Yes you are right, they selling dealer drills through the front bumper cover and then the bracket is held in place by plastic rivets. The rivets are a great idea IMHO because if you accidentally drop the garage door on the front bracket, like I did to my 2000 Crown Vic when I first brought it home, you won't tear the cover, you just need to get two more of the plastic rivets and pop the license bracket back into place.

I'd call them up and check, My state is a one plate one aswell, but they add it anyways to have their ad plate in it. Four plastic plugs will do the job of filling it, just put touch up paint on the top of them so the blend in.

Yes, I spoke with the Internet Sales guy and he wasn't "sure" but thought it already had the bracket on it. I sent him an email today reemphasizing that I didn't want that bracket on the car if it has yet to be installed.

Yes the right hand never knows what the left is doing. lets hope the bracket has not been installed. I guess it would be to hard to just go look!! :(

When I fell in love with my blue Marauder, the dealer had already attached a front plate bracket and dealer advert tag. A few days later I removed it only to find that they ahd screwed through the bumper cover with four screws, didn't even drill pilot holes, the lazy bastids. :( It already had some minor damage - was planning to have it repaired anyhow. Now will likely have the screw holes repaired at the same time. Florida only requires rear plate. IMHO the bracket in front spoils the sexy look of the front end.

I agree..... and it will be something that I will be looking into getting fixed... at some point. Just don't know when.
My two previous experiences with this were both positive. I bought an out of state 2001 Cobra and a 2003 Cobra. Both dealerships didn't mount the front plate until the car was sold. One of them even asked me first if I needed it mounted. (something I had given no thought to... I was overjoyed to have protected the car from that)

As a worse case: you could always put some type of custom plate on the front.
I saw a nice one on E-bay(as a matter of fact its still on there now): its a black plate that says: "Marauder" on it. It looks pretty nice!
Good Luck, .............................. .............................. .........................Tim.

Oregon is a two plate state, I told my dealer if they mounted it I would not buy the car. Two years later the plastic bracket and the front plate are still sitting on a shelf in my garage. Never had any problems.

I, too bought my baby in a 1-plate state. It had no holes, no bumper plugs, totally virgin front end. I want to keep it that way. I also at the time resided in another 1-plate state, but Katrina forced a retreat to NY*, where they require 2. The DMV told me to just put it in the front window where it would be 'displayed prominantly' ... well, the NYS trooper who tagged me for 78 in a 65 chuckled when I told him and happily wrote me a ticket for no front plate. 25$ w/ a 55$ court surcharge just for the plate DESPITE my letter & photo showing judge that I'd gotten it fixed. Which was faked, of course, (I only used industrial velcro, which worked great until i parked too close nose into a snowbank and the bending license plate bent enough to snap the adhesive off. No 'give' in the cold weather.) but that's not the point. VISUALLY it should have passed muster. But anyway, so ... while people may never have been hassled in a 2-plate state like Oregon, in NY they apparantly are. Oh, and the cop had the balls to tell me how much he loved the car. He said he was disappointed he wasn't writing me a ticket for 90 in a 65. I love cops with a sense of humor, see, cuz the funny thing is that without him or his cronies around i would happily cruise the NYS Northway at 110 whistling a happy tune ... well, in the summertime at least.

* This of course opens up a whole new thread at another time.

that has plagued me since I thought of drill bits going into my baby's face - Why doesn't someone sell some sort of pressure-fit mounting kit for a plate? Surely with 21st century bungee and plastic technology at its highpoint we could somehow come up with something that would fit into a bumper using pressure or some other non-destructive force, which wouldn't require us defacing but would satisfy draconian useless plate requirements. there's a space on true-value counters worldwide for some enterprising garage inventor someone mark my words. and give me 10% .. i'm not a greedy man, but premium gas is getting pretty $$ ... and those 410 gears aren't going to buy themselves ... :P
