So I take it that the OEM Radio isn't Satellite enabled...
Clear Channel and XM?
I have Sirius in the house on the Satellite TV package. I like Sirius better as well. However, I've got 4 vehicles setup with XM gear. Too expensive for me to swap.. (besides Sirius FM mod systems look TERRIBLE compared to my older XM gear)
I am driving from Az to Vt to pickup my MM. I am going to 1/2 way remove the XM from my Cobra.. (plug it into the cig lighter) and have everything laying on the floor... ghetto but I can at least use it and then take it out when I get to Vt.
I was hoping that the MM would be able to swing it without the FM mod. If not then the question about the multiple power plugs....

What about clear channel do you dislike? I ask because I don't even know if clear channel is the company that owns XM or if it is a technology they are using. :)
I am frustrated with XM because I listen to XM 46 Top Tracks which is about as close to a classic rock as they have. I can drive for 12 hours and hear the same song twice. I asked them about that. I mean, with all of the music to choose from in the classic rock era.... you have to repeat songs within 12 hours?

as far as clear channel goes... im not sure of the "legalities" of the whole xm thing... they either own it or have a large stake in it....clear channel has destroyed radio in dallas.. i guess barry manilow sells more ads than megadeth etc?
clear channel also fired howard stern from all their stations for being "obscene"
lmfao.... i wont even get into that argument here...
well maybe a lil bit.... every frickin sitcom/home improvement show has "people of alternative lifestyles" on it... IM BEING NICE ... yet stern talks about strippers etc get banned.

XM Satellite Radio Inc., an emerging force in broadcasting, was incorporated in 1992 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. XM is publicly traded on the NASDAQ exchange since October 5, 1999. XM's founding was prompted by the radio industry's first major technological change since the popularization of FM radio in the 1970s: the creation of a third broadcast medium, transmitted by satellite, now taking its place alongside AM and FM on the radio dial. One of only two companies with a license for this new national audio service, XM has assembled a "dream team" of creative radio professionals and a management team committed to leading the world into the next generation of radio. In 2004, XM transmits over 120 discrete, nationwide radio channels to subscribers throughout the continental U.S. in digital sound from coast to coast.
XM's powerful strategic and equity partners are leaders in their respective industries. These include General Motors, the largest U.S. auto and truck manufacturer; American Honda; Clear Channel, the largest U.S. radio station operator.
Our partnerships with GM, Honda, and other auto manufacturers, with leading audio manufacturers such as Delphi, Pioneer, Alpine and Sony, and with electronics retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears and participating Radio Shack franchise dealers favorably position XM Radio within the reach of millions of consumers. In addition to our corporate headquarters and broadcast facilities in Washington, D.C., XM has broadcast facilities in New York and Nashville, and additional offices in Boca Raton, FL; Southfield, MI; and Yokohama, Japan.

check this thread I psoted into it about the various options open to the factory radio
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14286&page=2&pp=15
get past the section where the flaming was goign on, and you'll find my post nestled in there.
My only suggestion for the ride back is take it easy, this car has a nasty habit of creeping up to a 100mph like it was cruising through the parking lot.

Shakes,
VERY interesting.....
But let me ask a couple of questions....
So I would have to TUNE to the XM channel (or Sirius channel) each time I turned on the radio? ( you say no preset)
Do I have that correct?
This will daisy chain with the stock Mercury 6-CD changer?
Tks

I have Sirius as well. Coupla things I've discovered...
One: You can set a preset on your FM settings for the modulated channel; in my particular case, 87.9 on the "dial"...yeah, I'm dating myself.
Two: I tried XM for a bit. Their stuff never worked right, and then they copped a 'tude with me about whether or not it was working. Went straight back to Circuit City and replaced with Sirius. I've got the Kenwood modulated unit (silver-face) and it fits just fine on the faux-carbon fiber strip. Only real problem I've got is that in it's current location, the wheel blocks the view sometimes. Haven't gone back to XM since. I don't recommend 'em.
Three: The "battle lines", in a matter of speaking, seem to be drawn on who's putting what in their products. GM and their affiliated companies have a contract with XM. Ford and their affiliated companies (Jaguar, the new MINI, and Aston-Martin, to name a few) have a similar arrangement with Sirius. I've actually seen Sirius listed as a dealer-installed option in one of the sales brochures on the MM; don't have it with me now, but I remember that distinctly, and I've been considering a retrofit here lately. It won't daisy-chain on the factory CD changer; I think it jacks into the line for the antenna.
Lastly, enjoy! I don't even listen to FM stations anymore; not a lot of good rock stations anyway; haven't since I left Daytona and couldn't get WJRR (Orlando) anymore.

Your MM radio does not have integrated satellite radio hardware. You'll either have to use a tape deck adapter, an FM modulator or buy an XM receiver and hard wire it in somewhere and treat it like another audo input (that's where the dealer install part comes in).
To keep fanning the flames, I'm perfectly happy with my XM service and I'm going on two years with them. But I do own Sirius stock so everyone is happy in the Silver_04 household...even though Stern will be on Sirius in '06.

Thanks... I'm familiar with the FM modulated setups. I have four of them. I actually did two of them in a "smart" manner. I bought identical FM mod setups... installed all the wiring, modulators, controllers, etc. and use just one "brain" (receiver). I just unplug the brain and move it to the car I am using. One subscription, two cars. :)
However, from what I hear on Sirius through my Satellite TV service and what I hear through XM I'd much rather have Sirius. XMs play list is way too small for a company that has been around for several years now.
What I am looking at now is a setup described by Shakes that goes right into the factory setup using the standard "Brain" of the FM Mod systems, but with a PIE adapter can be controlled by the MM Radio and steering wheel controls. However, the display is limited to what the CD display on the MM Radio can support. So obviously, no artist names etc. Also something was said about no presets or scan capability. Thus my question, everytime I turn the radio on and swith to Satellite do I need to "retune" the sat receiver or does it at least remember where I left it.

I like my XM and out here in the desert southwest it is a god send believe me. But, their playlist (as I stated above) is very limited .... I don't know if they are too cheap to pay the royalties or what the issue is..... I just maintain that if I listen for 12 hours straight (while on a road trip) and I hear the same song more than once.... then something isn't right. Also, the channel I like 46 Top Tracks.... they play some off the wall garbage. I mean...... I lived through the era so if it was a TOP TRACK then I heard it before. Often XM plays some obscure song I never heard.... I'd like to see on what chart it became a TOP TRACK.

I think XM may be the Betamax of sat radio. Sirius has Mel Karmazian, a bigtime guy running it now and of course, Stern, who will bring millions of listeners.

I totally understand. When I first got XM a couple of years back they seemed to have a lot of variety and I hardly ever heard the same song twice within a couple of days. But as you mentioned they are getting repetitive. I'll probably keep them till my receiver breaks or Sirius comes out with a great deal.

I used one of the Blitzsafe interfaces to connect my XM Commander directly into my OEM head unit. This is not an FM modulated connection, it uses the data cable supplied by the CD changer. I switch between the cd changer and XM satellite radio by pushing SEEK UP and SEEK DOWN on the OEM head unit. The display the head unit shows CDDJ Disc 1 track 99 or track 00 when on the XM, volume controls are normal, and I can switch modes like normal.

With the devices I mentioned, you could/would:
a.) need to tune each time you turn on the radio, basically it would be like selecting a diffferent cd track
b.) according to the manufacturers you can daisy chain in with your existing 6 disc factory changer. I think they are using some sort of network addressing to do that.
I haven't actually set one up yet, I'm on the fence regarding which way to go, I'll probably go with a Roady2, and the Aux input route, and I'll fab up a custom bracket/harness for the thing.
I've not heard good thigns about the FM modulators, especailly with the roady2.

I can't find a listing for the MM on the Blitz Catalog.
Where did you mount your control ? I don't have the XM Commander... I have a different brand.
Alpine to be exact.

Then I will sort thru my options but thanks for the leads.....
