In Albuquerque, NM heading to the East. Weather looks abysmal. Oklahoma City will be the decision point today. I need to get thru Amarillo (ice / snow). The Cobra will NOT like that.

Barry (Cruztaker) has been taking care of me. Watching over me like a guardian angel.

Now the rest of you get that prayer thing going and SHUT OFF this messy weather!

Stay on 40 for the better way across as we discussed on the phone last night. Talk to you this evening.

Your return trip for thursday/friday/saturday looks sweet. Rain, but no snow. You should be able to run the 80 turnpike all the way to my place, and then pickup 71 to 65 to 40 back home.

Today is your worst travel day. Stay safe.

First, let me say thanks for all the good words... especially since I've never met any of you.

Dateline :Sweet(Frozen)water Texas...

I'm hunkered down in a hotel at 3pm CST. There was just no way to continue. Temps around 18 degrees.... roads frozen over..... counted 20 cars/suvs off the road, 3 of them upside down. 10 eighteen wheelers off the road, 4 of them totally destroyed. That doesn't count all the marks into the median but the vehicle had already been removed.

I hit some roadkill this morning just before Albuquerque . Large, black, made a racket going under the car. Stopped couple miles later at a gas station to check everything. Didn't hit any body panels but I got guts and stuff strung all under the car. Sure makes for an interesting aroma! Javelina I think.... but couldn't be sure... too dark. I saw the blood.... then a lot... and just as my mind said... LOTS of blood... find another lane..... BAM there it was...

Plan is to sit tight until 9-10am tomorrow and see what the roads look like. Hope to get out east on 40 into Tennessee and then run north. If I can't go tho, I may just have to bag the whole idea, call off the deal, put my tail between my legs and head south for Dallas and back home to Arizona.

Good luck, Kevin. The weather is almost nice in Albuquerque now, even washed the MM. See you next week if everything works out. Stay in touch!

Well that is sort of the hope.... that I am on the backside of the front now...
Which was my plan originally... I just didn't factor in the "residuals" left behind it. Bad weather blew thru Albuquerque last night as I slept. Thru Oklahoma as I was driving today. Just the left over ice is killing me. If I can crack thru that... I should be fine... til I have to turn North.

OK, plan "B" come east from Dallas to Birmingham, then to Chattanoga and on to Knoxsville and pick up I-81, and follow that north to Hagerstown, MD where Gordon, Chris, Barb and I will meet you with food and directions. Then, depending where you're going in Vermont, we can send you north to Scranton and on to Albany, take NY 7 to Bennington VT(home of Hemmings). From there it's a snap. However, if it's bad weather, stay in Sweetwater and call Roy Hendley, an old army buddy of mine.:)

Mike,

Right now my hope is to run 40 all the way over to 65/75 and head north. Will have to see how that goes. I got to get past the Okla / Arkansas line.

I agree...

If I can get out of here in the morning.... from Little Rock til Nashville/Louisville late in the day I am in great shape... doesn't even show any rain... just partly cloudy.

Friday... Mostly Cloudy in Cinci, Columbus, and Cleve. Just depends what mess is left over from Thursday weather in your area.

Saturday could be iffy going Buff, Syracuse, Saratoga Spr, Plattsburgh, and St. Albans. All have weather the day before and low temps below freezing tho all are above freezing during the day.

If I can get into and out of St. Albans... and back down around Cleve on Saturday.... the rest is IN THE BAG... with temps down climbing for the whole rest of the trip....

Will see what tomorrow holds.

I'm going to bed......I was gonna say....WTF did you do a louie???

You are actually in ERICK, OK.

Geez, talk about a one horse town...I suppose your're gonna say you're staying at the ELM Hotel next.... :P

BTW: It's 1007 miles to Knoxville....it can be done...but you're looking at like 14 hours of drive. But if you're gonna make your deadline, you need to maintain 78 mph and run like a gazelle tomorrow.
