I believe it is 220hp S/C and 190 non S/C. There was one at the car show this past weekend. Looks like an upgraded Caviler. :puke:

The SS Cobalt looks like competition for the Evo, WRX, and SRT-4 crowd. FWIW, those Evo's certianly are rice, yes...but at the last wednesday event at Norwalk this past fall, I saw a red Evo run an 11.40 in a test and tune run, not even trying, and letting off the gas 200ft before the traps. I'd hate to see what that car would have run full go.

Only 30 extra HP with a SC? Hardly seems worth the extra money.

I saw the S/C version of the Cobalt on the floor at the Washington Auto Show on Saturday. If memory serves, I think it was a 2.2 liter :dunno: with the S/C. Base model has a 1.8, I think. Will have to check this and get back. :D

It was a 2.2 Liter. Here's the specs:

SS Supercharged Coupe (available early 2005)
Starting at $21,995*
205-hp 2.0L ECOTEC Supercharged DOHC engine
18-inch wheels and tires, high-mounted rear spoiler, foglamps, and unique front and rear fascias
SS Supercharged specific five-speed manual transmission
Leather-appointed front bucket seats with color-keyed perforated inserts
AM/FM stereo with CD/MP3 player
Seven-speaker Pioneer premium sound system
Titanium-faced instrumentation, including a boost gauge
Leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls
Body-color power outside rearview mirrors
Four-wheel antilock disc brakes

But the base coupe has the 2.2 liter also:

Coupe
Starting at $14,190*
145-hp 2.2L ECOTEC DOHC engine
Five-speed manual transmission
Front cloth bucket seats and 60/40 split-bench rear seat
AM/FM stereo with CD player
Air conditioning
15-inch wheels and tires
Premium Ride suspension
Electric power steering

Here's a link to the Cobalt web site, http://www.chevrolet.com/cobalt/. It's basically a good looking Saturn Ion. Appears to be a nice domestic alternative to the imports. Did y'all see the 5 year/60k mile powertrain warranty on a sub $20k domestic car? It's about time someone offered that.

Horsepower : 205 hp @ 5600 rpm
Torque : 200 lb-ft @ 4400rpm
Top speed : 143 mph
0-60 mph : 6.4 sec.
0-¼ mile : 14.9 sec @ 95.5 mph

Not exactly in the same league as the AWD Evo, STI, or even WRX... Even the other FWD, the Neon... errrr SRT-4, should be able to run away from it, in stock form... Having said that, rumor has it the block can handle quite a bit more boost than stock...

It's looks like a baby GTO, to me...

DETROIT -- Chevrolet's Cobalt isn't exactly flying out the factory door.

Chevy dealers say General Motors has delayed delivery of its coupe, and some have been told that their orders will arrive three weeks behind schedule.

"There has been a delay, but we don't know why," says Gordon Stewart, president of Stewart Management Group in Harper Woods, Mich., which operates three Chevrolet dealerships. "But there are always problems on startups."

GM says production of Cobalt coupes began Monday, Dec. 13.

Dealers say the delay affects all coupes, but Brent Dewar, Chevrolet's marketing general manager, says only performance SS models are involved.

Anytime you put a reasonable size HP of sizeable porportion (as in described
above from others) into a smaller weight car, you will get a "faster" car.....

So, I think , Chevy's theory is to "show" a car that has alot of UMPH when actuallly it's more debatable ..thus the "thats faster than so and so.." stuff begins...and in the real world,, it ends up selling these cars to "find out".. and then the "it can do better with" stuff starts--- kinda like us doncha think--we started out that way --in a way---......the ricers will love it--except for the $$$$.....oh well..my :twocents: ...Tom
