I just picked up a black '04 MM used with 2k miles on it and its unbelievably sweet. To make this short, Im way too lazy to read all two thousand posts here to find out how best to take care of this car and what problems to look out for. Any nuggets of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

:welcome:
There were issues with black paint in some of the '03's and the guys are trying to bracket the SR# range.
Mine and some of the early '04's had rear & axle problems, listen for strange noises, especially on hard left turns at uphill intersections, from a stop.
jstevens told you about the O/D button. Pay attention here.
DO NOT GO WOT (wide open throttle) WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN OVERDRIVE. ALWAYS hit the button BEFORE you hit the gas.
Any mods must be disconnected or removed BEFORE you bring the car to a dealer for repair service. MOD = WARRENTEE VOIDED
Some of the guys think the '03 is a better car than the '04 because of the power gas door lid, and other creature features, but from what I've been reading, the '04 is built stronger, especially the transmission.
we don't know the complete story about the engines, yet; but there's a database being built, and one of the guys is collecting info on the engine #'s/issues.
use the "search" tab; there's answers to everything.
be careful backing into your garage.

Whenever you'd like to improve your mood floormat the go-pedal while traveling about 34 mph (and heed the o/d off advice above).
The lunge 1st gear provides will keep you smiling all the way through the automatic 2-3 shift at 90+ mph.
Naturally, this should only be attempted by a professional driver on a private test track.

Thanks for the welcome aboard all. As for requested info. I live in Southern California. As far as finding the ride, I just got lucky.
I was hunting for a replacement for my Jeep, as Im spending much more time on the freeway these days, the ****er was falling apart, and my kidneys have been asking for a break for quite a while now. I saw the marauder before and just couldnt swing the 35k price tag, was always a big fan of big street cars, loved Monte SS and more Impala SS, but never could afford any of them. I was cruising Ford and Mercury lots and was thinking Id find a black crown vic within my price range and try to un-grampa it later.
Then I saw it... 04 with 2k miles, and less than a nicely equipped new vic, a whole lot sweeter, and when I took the test drive... damn.
I really couldnt turn it down. I asked the salesman the story on it, he didnt know. When I bought it, it still had the original factory sticker in the glove box, it was on a different lot in San Diego last year. Whoever gave it up treated it well.
For the guy who asked, I got it for 26,900, but they gave me 4k on my jeep, which wasnt worth more than a grand (more mechanical and body problems than I can list), so I figure in all reality, I got it for 24,000 certified. Edmunds says its worth 26 retail as a certified used, or 24 uncertified, Kelly says its worth 25 either way.
One more thing for anyone who actually got the extended factory warranty... anyone have an opinion as to whether $1775 is a good deal for a 100k bumper to bumper on this ride? Ill probably put 20k a year on it sadly, so making this a hobby car probably isnt an option. Any mods will have to be cool with the warranty.
Thanks again for the info.

Glad you got her!!! Thier are threads about the Extended warranty. Just depends on what and when you decide to mod. Drive a few with mods if you can.
